GDP measures the total market value of all goods/services produced in a country for the year. Most of the time, a country’s GDP reflects how powerful a country is. This video will take you through a historical journey where you will witness the rise and fall of different empires and economies while passing through key historical events, such as the Great Depression, WW1, WW2, Cold War, and many other events that shaped our world today.

@@PolishBehemoth economy is not that simple.
I honestly don't believe that "work ethic" stuff. You're quoting Max Weber, right? A 19th century theory, full of biases.
What I believe is that economic conditions come before anything else, like education, technology, even culture.
When economic conditions are favourable, everything else changes for the better, and even people's values change (attitudes like "time is money/punctuality/materialism/religiosity").
Look at the rise and fall of Venice or Spain.
Look at India and China before and after planned economy.
Look at Arabian states before and after oil.
Look at Japan before and after exposure to the West and the Meiji Revolution.
      Coming back to this video:
Are you aware of the theory of the flying geese paradigm and the Asian tiger economies?
There are many countries that had an astronomic economic growth, until they reached the approximate GDP per Capita of Western countries. After that they all slowed down, just like Japan

And I see a cult of "self sabotage" in its population since Argentinians are in the top ranking regarding tax evasion and the taxes here are lower than in countries like France. The country is no longer in "fashion" and Argentinians invest their money abroad, that is another huge problem for Argentina.

Very interesting graph indeed. For me the most surprising was how weak was French economy in the interwar period. They were more devastated by WWI than Germans despite subsequent plunder of Germany using reparations. It also illustrates why France was so keen on to extract as much as possible from Germany, because their own economy was in shambles.

Are you seriously saying you're not an Empire? How oblivious are you about your own history?
Oh come on now. There has never been an hegemonical power in History who hasn't been an empire, ever. It is called " The trap of Thucydide"
Frenchmen and englishmen know that all too well. It happened between Athenes and Sparte, Rome and Catharge, France and England, England and Germany, Russia and the US, now the US and China. The rising power against the declining power for world hegemony. It's continental power against sea power for world hegemony.
Smart imperialism is still imperialism, England did it way before the U-S.
And I don't whine nor do I wish your destruction, I can only see the damages such imperial power has done to an old decaying Europe who will disappear shortly, the rest of the world blames you but I don't care about the rest of the world, I only care about Europe. So middle-east can blame you all they want, I don't care about them. You're a nationalist it seems, that's good.
We lack that in Europe, U-S softpower dominates us, making us unable to recenter around our own nationality and culture, sad but true. US model, raw and financial power, great combination of hard and soft power made it like so. Can't blame others for being weak, but I can at least the consequences and the main source that traps us weak can't I?
