  • This video shows the Top 20 countries with highest GDP PPP from 1800 to 2040 based on 2011 international dollars. It gives a brief history of the world since the 1800s. China and India were ahead before the 1900s while the US started leading after the 20th century.
    Purchasing power parity (PPP) is a neoclassical economic theory that states that the exchange rate between two countries is equal to the ratio of the currencies' respective purchasing power.

      The looting came forth from different times, my friend. In this world, we should focus on making plans (e.g. climate change, wealth distribution, poverty, and giving people a voice in the countries where this is not a reality) for a brighter future for everyone. This is not done by hating nations.

It's not rocket science.if your country has less GDP, but those 3 criteria I mentioned amount to more value than the country compared with, then there is something Fundamentally inferior about the way your country is being run

      This is a very simplistic outlook. How is the data even quantified? The data is very dubious. Agricultural production in huge, fertile and populous areas would obviously be much greater. What is this data being measured on? This doesn't mean that India or China were nearly as economically advanced as Britain, and India was part of the empire anyway. British GDP per capita has also been higher since before the global empire.
      Don't believe such a simplified picture to be the arbiter of economic power and advancement.

      @@divyjain123456 the Marathma Empire had a population of 170-200 million in the early 19th century, UK 40?. The technological advancement of the brits were uncomparable. What is this Gdp data showing in 1812 anyway? Crop rates? Prices of spice in european exchange rate? The Ananas was so expensive, it cost an anual wage, that would yield spanish-mexican viceroyalty the richest entity, obviously a nonsense. Also we could convert the british clipper fleet into indian market value, resulting the british empire as Gdp leader. Clearly the market values of european trade are downgraded here, while the chart shows rice and opium production indicating China as superpower. There is no realistic gdp data from the era, however fictive data shown here. What we know is that in the 16th century China was more developed with higher living standard, India was poorer.

    Interestingly, the top 9 regions by GDP PPP in 1820 also happen to be the great powers of the world today (~2020): United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, China, Japan, and India. These same 9 countries are also the only countries with extraterrestrial exploration capability as of 2023: United States, Russia, China, India, Japan, and the European Space Agency (considering only the 4 member states which contribute >10% of ESA's budget: France, Germany, Italy, and United Kingdom).
    Conclusion: the world is still very much shaped by the world order of 200 years prior.

    • @lunais1433
      @lunais1433 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EgovaryZenobiaI know it does. Specifically, in this case, China and India had (by far) the highest population in 1820, Japan had the 2nd highest population in East Asia and was also the first Non-European/American country to industrialize, while the other 6 countries were the most populous countries in Europe and/or the first to successfully industrialize.
      Anyway, my point is that the current world order is still very much shaped by the Industrial Revolution of 200+ years past.

    • @EgovaryZenobia
      @EgovaryZenobia 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lunais1433Agree.And how long do you think the current order can last?

    • @lunais1433
      @lunais1433 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EgovaryZenobia That's an interesting question.
      If by "current order" you mean the one formed by unequal industrialization between countries, then its end will be when every country has completed industrialization. We can predict when this will be based on when today's least developed countries reach the level of human development as today's developed countries (ex. HDI > 0.8, life expectancy > 80, GNI per capita > 30 000 in 2017 Intl $, 0% population growth, etc.). Based on extrapolations of United Nations data (via Our World In Data), I predict today's least developed countries (ex. Niger, Burundi) will reach this level in ~2130 - 2140; however, it will likely take a few more decades for the industrialization process to fully stabilize.
      Currently, there are 39 UN member states classified as "advanced economies" by the IMF, and 46 UN member states classified as "least developed countries"; the remaining 108 states (56%) are in the middle. This is an approximate 1:2:1 ratio, which means the world is approximately in the centre of the industrialization process. The Industrial Revolution began in earnest in ~1800, so by this (imprecise) symmetric argument, the process should complete in full by ~2200.
      But, if by "current order" you mean the European/American-dominated order, then its end will be when many non-European/American countries (not just China and India) either have completed industrialization or are rapidly industrializing. Again using UN data, I predict this will occur in ~2070 - 2100.

      @Indian Atheist
      That’s a hard one to say, honestly. How PPP is calculated in one country vs. another is very, very difficult to be systematically consistent with and requires significant variations on how different items are weighted. Calculating GDP is a hard enough task, but PPP is monumental. Personally, I don’t know how much stock I put in PPP, but I think it helps me understand a nation’s situation less than GDP and GDP per capita does.

    • @space_3669
      @space_3669 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      No, GDP (normal) is much more important. The same house in developed and backward countries is equivalent in PPP. But it is obvious that the houses in the slums and the villas in Los Angeles are not the same value at all. PPP will only make the backward countries feel good. In China, no one talks about PPP, even though China has long been number one in the world.

      PPP means “purchasing power parity.” It basically means how far will your money go in your country. They look at the prices of common goods and services and see how that stacks up compared to other countries’ abilities to buy similar goods.
