That is a great observation. Most actors, like most singers, don't have a big range they can perform. It just seems like they are playing the same character over and over in different movies. But, Ms. McAdams has the range to pull off a variety of characters that are vastly different.

We forget how embarrassing auditions can be ; there's no set ,no lighting, no make up. And that's when you truly see Rachel make Allie come alive,just pure emotion and devotion to the character. She's truly a talented actress and holds her own in this movie.

I’m a great actress but I will never make it big because I’m scared of auditions lol. When I do plays I don’t audition for them. The only reason people are able to see my talent. But I think if I make movies it will be even better because if you mess up they can retake the shot. In plays it’s real life so I can’t mess up. sometimes I don’t even follow the script. I make up things as I go and the writer is shocked that everyone love me because some of the things that makes them laugh were not even in the script.

I've said this before, Rachel McAdams feels so underrated. Her talent is unbelievable.
She's not underrated at all, she's very highly regarded, successful, in big movies and shows still. She's incredible and doesn't like the spotlight, she likes to just do her work and do it well. She's not as "famous" as she used to be - but I think she doesn't like doing interviews much and Hollywood is sexist. She is still considered incredibly successful and many actors look up to her, this audition tape is still shown in acting schools.
She is not underrated. She is everywhere

No...it was going to go to Britney Spears until McAdams stole it from her. The producers were just about to make a formal offer. McAdams auditioned before they were going to call Spears team and give her the role

She stole the role from Britney Spears. Britney auditioned and beat out several actresses. Even Ryan Gosling wanted to work with her. Then, McAdams came and blackmailed the producers!

I used to work at a casting agency in LA and I taped many, MANY auditions. it is such an odd atmosphere and as much as the ppl behind the desk try to make the actors comfortable (they WANT everyone to succeed!) it's still so artificial in so many ways. The levels of emotion she was able to bring out- when a large chunk of the scene was just her reactions to him speaking- were just stunning. I know in hindsight it's easy to say, "She was made for this role!" after we see how well she did in the final movie, but seeing this audition... she was *made for this role*. This was breathtakingly good.
So well said!! Any other tape I've seen is so painful to watch, but this brought me right in -- made me want to watch the movie again! (Which I don't do often because I don't like being a crying mess! 😂)
She at least had the advantage of working off of Gosling.
For me, the toughest situation was when I had to to a read for a director that would feed the lines quickly and without emotion.
Im also talking about second and third call backs. Not just the first auditions to weed people out.

That’s wonderful insight because I was looking at this astounded at how well she did, especially when it sounded like she read the script the night before? That seemed incredible, she’s wonderful, but I’m in awe of how great she was off the bat in this scenario as you explain it x

my gosh...she is crazy good! she was even tearing up while doing this scene; and this is just auditions! many actors/actresses use eye drops or water in movie scenes, but Rachel McAdams is #rawtalent , my friends. she can bring a character to life at the snap of a finger. i love her movies. :)

Jonmarie Y Well eye drops, menthol, and fans are really only used if the actor sucks assholes or if they're doing a close up cut in scene, where you don't really have the emotional momentum.

@@marjorie3731 there are online articles where they explain it more briefly but they did not get along and would constantly yell at each other. ryan wanted to kick her off set one time because he wanted another girl to read lines with and it “wasn’t working for him”
She really brought the intensity. I’m really impressed that even her audition was superb acting
The notebook and a walk to remember and the last song had the best casting out of all Nicholas sparks movie

I actually prefer this performance to the final version in the film.
The way Ryan plays his character is more begging, desperate where in the final he's a tad bit angrier.
Rachael's is actually more emotional here as well.
I adore the fact that Rachael still seems down to earth, responsible and professional after all the years

I think this clip was better because it was probably their first time doing it. Whereas in movies, they do multiple takes
I used to be a music producer. I found that the first take of a vocal is often the best. it's relaxed, spontaneous, and the singer is feeling the music in the headphones for the first time hearing what his/her voice sounds like with the music. It's exciting for the singer and that comes out in their voice - even though you can't see them.
I once erased the first take (it was only to get recording levels). The singer took 20 takes to get it almost as good. Boy, did I learn my lesson - never wipe the first take.

I literally just CRIED from her audition. She is so beautifully talented and plays the role of Allie like no one else could have ever done. She IS Allie. No one else could ever have done it so beautifully. The film and chemistry between them both in script and between the actors, was magical. It’s so nice to see that magic started from the very first moment. ❤️

She is NOT underrated in the US, this movie is old now…at the time she was not well known.
the movie itself is a huge hit in the us too, even now years after it's original release, but i think as an actress she's pretty underrated

@@biljanas7931 i don't think there's a criteria, it's more of a personal opinion. like, if i think people don't talk abt this person, or if i think this person isn't appreciated enough, i'd think they're underrated. others might think no, i think ppl talk too much abt that person, then they'd think they're overrated.
basically it's less of a ranking/criteria based and more abt personal opinions of said actor/actress

How her eyes light up and fade while crying is amazing, and then to see it during her very first audition is mind boggling. Actors are incredible. Sometimes for a split second it feels like I could do what an actor does on screen but then I see these videos and it reminds me about the huge talent and work ethic they have 💕

Actually no. He hated her. And almost didn’t do the movie to not work with her, he wanted a different actress. After the movie they ended up together for two years and then broke up. Lol that just shows how great they are at their job.
The world is forever happy she got the part. She touched a lot of hearts staring in the movie. It's one of those movies many have seen several times & still drop a tear. It was excellent.

I can't see anyone but Rachel doing this part. My husband and I watched this movie (for the second or third time) in a hotel bar in Mississauga waiting for late guests. The bartender, waitress, people around the bar were so into it with us, it was a joke the next morning when we went down for breakfast. Since then, watched it another few times, read the book, and still Love it.
