To echo what others may be saying, I do recommend watching both the 2001 Special Edition of Superman: The Movie and the 2006 version of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut.
Both films are meant to be what Richard Donner envisioned for Superman. When Donner was let go and replaced, and a new director was picked, he had to have directed a certain percentage of the film in order to get full credit. So of the 75% of the film shot by Donner, 2/3rds of that was thrown out and reshot. This included all scenes Marlon Brando had shot for Part 2.

Here's some easter eggs for the 2000s pre superman show "Smallville" with Matt Wellling as Clark Kent. Christopher reeves, Margot Pergot "Lois Lane " and Terrence Stamp " Zod" all made cameo or guest star appearances in the show. And Stamp is the most iconic and ironi as he portrayed Welling's Kal-el/C. KENT as the voice of Jor-el. Talk about full circle 😊

There are two cuts to Superman 2. The theatrical cut and the original Director’s cut/ Donner Cut. Richard Donner was fired by Warner executives, the Sulkins, while he was in the middle of filming the movie. Richard Lester finished the movie and did reshoots. He got directors credit for this cut. The Donner cut is the better cut.

Now, to see another side of Christopher Reeves watch his movie, with the gorgeous Jane Seymour, called "Somewhere in Time." He filmed it during these Superman movies. The best version from Superman II, don't mind the hate from new folks. As much as I love all the 4 movies, I can't stand the Donner Cut from part II. I feel it was ruined by creative/editing decisions. I can list 500 of them, including the ending, which didn't improve what we had with this theatrical cut. Also check these other SUPERMAN 2 versions: 1) The "Vudu Cut" (same as DC, plus few differences leaked into that streaming); 2) "Restored International Cut", never released to this date.

I absolutely love the first 2 movies (I quite like the third too). The two movies were filmed at the same time, and most of the people working on it didn't realize they were making two different movies, and the production company got sued over that since the actors, etc, were only paid for making 1 film. I haven't seen the Donner cut of the films yet, but I understand that the original intent was that Superman reverse time in order to undo damage caused by the Phantom Zone villains. Which makes more sense to me since that, plus Lois's death, gave Superman more motive to mess with history, which is a dangerous thing. Otherwise, being able to travel back in time whenever you want is too much of a deus ex machina. The result of things being recut into two films were several plot contrivances that weakened the story, like Superman's on and off again powers, but the movies are still fun and exciting enough for me to overlook that. Plus I tend to see more glaring issues with most modern films.

The Donner Cut of Superman II is considered to be a better film than the theatrical version, with an improved love story and restored scenes featuring Marlon Brando as Jor-El. You've REALLY got to watch the Extended Cut of Superman The Movie, and Superman II The Richard Donner Cut. These two are paramount JUST to see major alternate cuts of these great and classic films. These alternate cuts reveal the true vision of Superman and Superman II. I'm gonna haunt your comments section until I see your reaction of these two GREATER cuts of these classic films. 😳😳😳

44:20 that's cool, except Action Comics #1 *STARTS* with "over-explaining" of Superman's powers and only reason why additional powers (or complications from suddenly having them like how complication of super-hearing was demonstrated in Reign of the Super-Man) weren't explained (besides Secret Citadel gym introduce in Superman #17) is due to limitations of comics at that time.
It is *natural* for Superman to be a sci-fi character rather than "just turn your brain off".

Now time for the sequel to _Superman II,_ which is _Superman Returns_ (2008).
We don't talk about the others. _III_ and _IV_ suck kryptonite.

Again, such a joy seeing you watch this film. Your enjoyment is infectious and just a delight. It's refreshing to see someone just allow themselves to enjoy it.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to say this, but Superman IV is pretty bad. The icon himself, Christopher Reeve didn't like it.

Ooohhh. You're watching the theatrical cut. Could you also do a reaction to the Donner/Director's Cut? It'd be interesting to see your views/reactions to what was changed.

The sad thing in this film series is that Lois never really loved Superman or Clark. She just loved the abilities he had.

3 & 4 are not good but still worth a watch at least once. You should watch the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 though.

I'm so glad you liked this one, too. I wouldn't bother with Superman III. It's definitely a misfire and a disappointment to fans. IV is even worse. To see a direct sequel to "Superman II' I would watch "Superman Returns" from 2006. It continues in the spirit of the original and furthers the story between Lois and Clark.

Great reaction well, if you think this is good, should see Superman two Richard Donner Cut version Richard Donner , Director of the first movie the second movie it was almost done. 90%. The movie was filmed, but then the producers fired him and Trash a lot of what Donner had done, a whole new movie added hydrogen bomb in Paris and the Director of the one you just saw was more a comedic a comedian Director that’s why you saw some jokes like 20 years later just before man of steel came out all the fans Superman wanted to know what was what Richard diner Cut would be like cut be like the real Superman too, but he almost finished so they took scenes he made and took pieces of the Superman one deleted scenes. Richard cut Superman. It’s the same way. Some parts are different and better but I wish they could have just combined the two movies together into one rid of the hydrogen bomb part because Superman Richard Goes right after Superman the missile that he pushes into space when he tries to create earthquakes is what free general in his crew in cement cut Superman two how he reveals himself to Lois is so much better and how he gets . His powers back is better the fighting in fortunate solitude is so much better. You could’ve left that in because where they go is a portal to the phantom zone too trust me and Superman three or the real Superman three not the one that they created with Christopher Reeve that one’s a joke you could watch it have Richard Pryor in it again the all kind is used a comedic Director for that movie, the real Superman three is called Superman returns. It takes place right after Superman two is over well in that version he wants to go and see if any survivors of krypton besides him meanwhile, you wouldn’t believe it. She knows he left the surprise when he kissed her because Superman forgot something, somebody takes your memory away, but it doesn’t change physical reaction not a morning after pill it just takes your memory of the event if you know what I mean both Richard and superman returns what I mean so much better if you like submit lowest being together, there’s two great shows that shows that one is Lois and Clark the new adventures of Superman with Dean Kane and Terry Hatcher was on TV. Great series, Clark Kent parents are alive for the the whole series they help him out all the time it’s a Great and Clark not bumbling idiot adventure Superman that last season this year Superman and Lois The CW put on Max I’m sure it’s a good show Superman and Lois get married and have kids this time Superman have twins in the series Christopher Reeves is the best Superman but Dean Kane is a close second and Brandon Ralph is a good third. He’s the superman in Superman returns. Thanks for the fun until next time.

You know, my big problem with Superman 2 is that after that awesome fight in metropolis, the final shodown at the fortress of supermanlitude was kinda lame with all those asspulls. I mean, what's up with that cellophane S shield? finger lasers? everybody is teleporting and replicating? what the hell?

When Siegel started Superman he could only jump 1/8 of mile, run faster than a train but *slower* than bullet, tank handheld guns but be knocked out by artillery and explosions could potentially destroy him
And when he was unjustly fired ,by dishonest company that didn't even want to publish Superman for 5 yeas in the first place and who needed to literally sue Fawcett Comics to close Captain Marvel because in 50s he was more popular than Superman almost as if certain someone didn't work on him anymore, in 1947 Superman had : invisible level of super speed (just compare Superman #4 , #6 and #17) , super hearing and x-ray vision, ability to somehow control his momentum (compare his landing on the ground in Superman #1 with #17) which is the real reason behind "flight" notice that in original and in general comics before 1986 reboot (in which most of his powers became variations on telekinesis and telepathy really with electromagnetic reaction at its core) Superman never stands still in the air, ability to absorb energy and vibration and redistribute it (Superman #5, Action Comics #72 cover, Superman #17), ability to completely shapeshift (Superman #45), ability to do low level telepathy manipulation (Superman #45 once again), ability to instantly understand and speak any language (Superman #14), and one of final abilities able to time travel (Superman #48). It is interesting that Superman The Movie, ie first Reeve starring film, shows ONLY abilities that were made with Siegel on the character so there is no heat vision or freeze breath because it was made/added After Siegel left (although still something within original "logic", especially heat vision originally being just more intense x-ray vision).
What I wrote is for you to understand the context. How character went from basic and very simple premise of "Superman" ie someone that can "super-run" and "super-jump" and be "super-tough", to then being able to absorb energy and shapeshift. It is as if Spider-Man one day would be able to teleport (weird, right? but you Don't question spider-sense which really doesn't fall for anything "spider" considering that it allows him to hear certain frequency (The Amazing Spider-Man #1), but it is there because original creators put it there).
So really, all these weird powers and gadgets are within original core of Superman by his creator, weird but within "limits" which are none really. Btw Superman used cape to really glide (Superman #6) before Batman ever did for next 20-30 years.
"Teleportation" is probable partly super speed, partly well, teleportation.
Though, none of that was in any comics, especially where Superman fought any other kryptonian.

Don’t listen to those that say not to watch Superman III. It’s a must see and underrated. You can skip 4 though, it’s terrible. On the same level if not worse than Batman & Robin. Once you’ve watched III - go straight to Superman Returns as this is a follow on from Superman II. Once you’re ready, you have Batman v Superman but you’d need to watch the Ultimate Edition as it plugs the odd gap on the theatrical release.
