I’d recommend checking out Superman 2: The Donner Cut. It’s different enough and handles some things better; like a clearer explanation of how he got his powers back.
Lex JUST told the Kryptonians they won't be able to find Louis or Superman without him. VEEY NEXT SCENE: Kryptonians breaking into Daily Planet and "Blaze" says" wait, they know where Superman works." LMFAO 😅
To echo what others may be saying, I do recommend watching both the 2001 Special Edition of Superman: The Movie and the 2006 version of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. Both films are meant to be what Richard Donner envisioned for Superman. When Donner was let go and replaced, and a new director was picked, he had to have directed a certain percentage of the film in order to get full credit. So of the 75% of the film shot by Donner, 2/3rds of that was thrown out and reshot. This included all scenes Marlon Brando had shot for Part 2.
The loss of powers was forever because the crystal controls were to be destroyed when he used the crystal chamber. His parents hadn't anticipated that the main crystal would not be there when that happened. Thanks, Lois!
There are two cuts to Superman 2. The theatrical cut and the original Director’s cut/ Donner Cut. Richard Donner was fired by Warner executives, the Sulkins, while he was in the middle of filming the movie. Richard Lester finished the movie and did reshoots. He got directors credit for this cut. The Donner cut is the better cut.
Just came across your channel, got to say it's a great reaction channel (love your natural enthusiasm). It's great that you appreciate the old Superman movies for their colourful images, optimism, and humour. Most of the new Superman movies are so gray, pessimistic and has the main characters as bland joyless types - instantly forgettable.
There’s also the film “Supergirl” from 1984. It takes place in the same universe as the Christopher Reeve Superman films - and I think you’d get a kick out of it! Cheesy campy fun.
The North Pole is the Arctic. Polar bears. Antarctica (ant- opposite + arctic + a land of) is the South Pole. Penguins. Arctic: north. Antarctica: south.
Blaze done an really awesome job reacting to these 70s 80 SuperMan 1 & 2 movies alot of movie reactors dont do a good job of reacting to these old movies.
I appreciate the fact that your reactions are so genuine. You even get emotional. Which is how we all felt when we first saw this. It's never too late to discover classics. 👍
Actually, different from Man of Steel, a deleted scene from Superman II shows the Krypton villains didn't die from that fall at the end. They were all arrested. Note: it only shows them being escorted by the local police, from a distance.
I can understand why it was deleted. Even as a kid, I thought it was extremely silly that local police vehicles were up in the middle of buttfuck nowhere in the Arctic.
If a fully-powered Kryptonian got into bed with a human he'd probably get carried away in the moment & hurt/kill her. That's why he had to surrender his powers.
This movie was in an era when even in the comics, Superman had a grab bag of powers, each writer invented new ones as needed. It got so ridiculous that DC had to reset him in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Here's some easter eggs for the 2000s pre superman show "Smallville" with Matt Wellling as Clark Kent. Christopher reeves, Margot Pergot "Lois Lane " and Terrence Stamp " Zod" all made cameo or guest star appearances in the show. And Stamp is the most iconic and ironi as he portrayed Welling's Kal-el/C. KENT as the voice of Jor-el. Talk about full circle 😊
Superman 2 was essentially filmed back to back with the first. Director Richard Donner was fired from it & replaced with Richard Lester. If you pay close attention to the movie you can almost tell in terms of style, who did which scenes.
Yes, everything with Gene Hackman was shot with Richard Donner, the original director. Hackman wouldn’t come back to do any more shooting with Lester, the new director. If you look and listen closely in the last Fortress scene, you can see the body double for Luthor, and hear someone else try to imitate his voice.
The thing about this Superman that could make it hard for younger audiences is that it very silver age. All the powers. Travel in space, time travel, suddenly using his emblem. If only he shot small versions of himself out of his fingers like one issue.
Yeah you get your Marvel sized battle at the end which you could trace all Marvel and DC superhero battles too because this is the first massive superhero battle.
I’d highly recommend the Donner Cut of this. While this one wasn’t too bad, I prefer the other version, mainly because it feels a little more grounded and connected to the first. It also has an explanation as to how Clark gets his powers back. There are also two timelines you can follow if you choose to in the future. The first being Superman 1, Theatrical Cut of 2 (this version), 3, and 4. The second being 1, Donner Cut of 2, and Superman Returns (ignores 3 and 4.)
Yes, yes, yes. As much as you like to laugh? You absolutely have to watch Superman 3 for an absolutely Hilarious performance by the Late Great Comedian, "Richard Pryor." You will not regret it!
Yes give Superman 3 a try. Don’t expect it to be like 1 & 2 but it’s still worth a watch and I always liked it, especially for Christopher Reeves performance. Very well done.
The wicked Superman segment was the best aspect of the film, apparently it was Christopher Reeve's idea. They should have built the entire film around that instead of focusing so much on Richard Pryor.
The Editor is played by Jackie Cooper and Jackie was one of the original "Our Gang" aka 'Little Rascals" kids along with Spanky, Alfalfa, and Darla. Now, to see another side of Christopher Reeves watch his movie, with the gorgeous Jane Seymour, called "Somewhere in Time." He filmed it during these Superman movies. You'll see just what a great actor he was. It's a beautiful movie written by a, legendary horror writer, but the movie is definitely an epic love story. Well acted by 3 extraordinary actors ( the 3rd actor is the late great Christopher Plummer).
First time I saw this movie I was 17 and just came out in the theaters saw it 4 days in a row. I was just as excited as you were when I saw you posted your reaction on this movie. Great reaction. Hope your not as disappointed with part 3 and 4 as I was when I first seen them. But I will still watch your reaction to them and maybe you will see something in them that I didn't and bring a new life to them for me.
Currently,, Superman's about guarding the entire World. He doesn't play favorites, politically-speaking.; in fact, his son's current catch-phrase is "Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow."* *in the comics, Clark and Lois have a son, Jon., who also goes by the moniker Superman (he's roughly 17)
There is a two part animated Death of Superman movie that is part of the same universe as those animated Batman movies you were watching. You should check it out next.
I like your philosophy on movie storytelling. Go with the plot and everything else out yourself. When I was a kid watching this I just figured out that the green crystal must be the thing which gives him back his powers simply because there seemed to be nothing else in the fortress. You're right, no need to explain everything. Let the viewer fill in the gaps for themselves. Sorry I repeated that, it's just you've hit the nail right on the head!
When you get a chance you should watch 3 & 4, but "Superman Returns" sort of naturally follows this one. I would recommend that and then the others when you can.
You should know That most people don't like 3 and 4 ( me i like both of them) And now they are dicanonised The official 3rd part is Superman Returns 2006 And it's Tie in animated movie Brainiac attacks
This was actually the first comic book film I ever watched as a little kid and it really kicked started my interest for comic books and got me into Superman as a character which led me to learn more about what makes the character so special. If you want to check out more great Superman solo movies/shows I would highly recommend: - Superman Vs The Elite (2012) - Superman: The Movie (1978) - All Star Superman (2011) - Superman & Batman Public Enemies (2009) - Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2020) - Superman The Animated Series (1994) - My Adventures With Superman (Season 1 & Season 2)
If you noticed, there was a time error in the movie. Superman took off to go to Paris in the morning and in Paris was also morning. It should've been afternoon or evening the latest!
Oh you have no idea the production problems behind this film. Richard Donner was fired from Superman II after completing most of the second movie due to disagreements with the producers. The Donner Cut of Superman II is considered to be a better film than the theatrical version, with an improved love story and restored scenes featuring Marlon Brando as Jor-El. The version Donner wanted to make was released was released in 2006 known as The Donner Cut.
5:53 No, Kryptonians cannot breathe in space, Kryptonians can hold their breath for a very long time and back then they were really like gods and could do everything like you saw in Superman One, like time travel. Since 1986, when John Byrne weakened Superman so much that things like moving planets and time travel are no longer possible, he was also the one who brought out Man of Steel. Spo that his Superman was really the only survivor of Krypton, there was no General Zod or Krypton or Kara Zor-ERl his cousin.
I absolutely love the first 2 movies (I quite like the third too). The two movies were filmed at the same time, and most of the people working on it didn't realize they were making two different movies, and the production company got sued over that since the actors, etc, were only paid for making 1 film. I haven't seen the Donner cut of the films yet, but I understand that the original intent was that Superman reverse time in order to undo damage caused by the Phantom Zone villains. Which makes more sense to me since that, plus Lois's death, gave Superman more motive to mess with history, which is a dangerous thing. Otherwise, being able to travel back in time whenever you want is too much of a deus ex machina. The result of things being recut into two films were several plot contrivances that weakened the story, like Superman's on and off again powers, but the movies are still fun and exciting enough for me to overlook that. Plus I tend to see more glaring issues with most modern films.
26:00 I like this scene because it shows Superman as a normal man. But since DC films are playing around with the multiverse I'd love to see a variant of Superman who is completely evil and unstoppable. I mean we got that in Justice League but I want to see for the whole movie.
you should watch Superman/Batman: Public Enemies! It shows off Batman and Superman s dynamic fairly well. You should ALSO watch Superman VS The Elites! It's an animated film, I think you'd enjoy it
So when you get a chance, you should watch Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. What you watched was the Richard Lester cut. Donner directed Superman: The Movie and most of Superman II. However the producers fired Donner after the first film released and replaced him with Richard Lester. The donner cut, in my opinion is much better.
Didn’t really like the whole give up powers to be a mortal like who’s going to punish him for not doing it lol. That was just a plot device and didn’t really make sense.
The best version from Superman II, don't mind the hate from new folks. As much as I love all the 4 movies, I can't stand the Donner Cut from part II. I feel it was ruined by creative/editing decisions. I can list 500 of them, including the ending, which didn't improve what we had with this theatrical cut. Also check these other SUPERMAN 2 versions: 1) The "Vudu Cut" (same as DC, plus few differences leaked into that streaming); 2) "Restored International Cut", never released to this date.
You've REALLY got to watch the Extended Cut of Superman The Movie, and Superman II The Richard Donner Cut. These two are paramount JUST to see major alternate cuts of these great and classic films. These alternate cuts reveal the true vision of Superman and Superman II. I'm gonna haunt your comments section until I see your reaction of these two GREATER cuts of these classic films. 😳😳😳
44:20 that's cool, except Action Comics #1 *STARTS* with "over-explaining" of Superman's powers and only reason why additional powers (or complications from suddenly having them like how complication of super-hearing was demonstrated in Reign of the Super-Man) weren't explained (besides Secret Citadel gym introduce in Superman #17) is due to limitations of comics at that time. It is *natural* for Superman to be a sci-fi character rather than "just turn your brain off".
Again, such a joy seeing you watch this film. Your enjoyment is infectious and just a delight. It's refreshing to see someone just allow themselves to enjoy it. I'm sure I'm not the only one to say this, but Superman IV is pretty bad. The icon himself, Christopher Reeve didn't like it.
I highly recommend you watch the movie "League of Super-Pets." Super good movie and introduces us to the characters we do care about in the DC Universe; the animals
I'm so glad you liked this one, too. I wouldn't bother with Superman III. It's definitely a misfire and a disappointment to fans. IV is even worse. To see a direct sequel to "Superman II' I would watch "Superman Returns" from 2006. It continues in the spirit of the original and furthers the story between Lois and Clark.
12:40 the kid did not turn into a doll. That young actor performed in front of a blue screen. The effect doesn't look very convincing to today's audience because you're all damn spoiled with modern digital technology.
Uhh yeah about those other movies. Movie 3 and 4 are trash. Especially 4, and 3 is the beginning of the quality drop. There's also a Supergirl movie in the same universe, but I wouldn't worry about anymore Superman movies. You've seen the best and the rest really aren't worth it. There IS however some good animated Superman movies. Such as All Star Superman and Superman vs the Elite. Those are good dives into the character and why he's such a timeless character that people can always look up to and love. I'd recommend checking those movies out for sure.
Superman 3 was the Last of the good Superman films that starred Reeve. Superman 4 had a lower budget and the effects were not that great so if you watch that one, keep that in mind.
Don’t listen to those that say not to watch Superman III. It’s a must see and underrated. You can skip 4 though, it’s terrible. On the same level if not worse than Batman & Robin. Once you’ve watched III - go straight to Superman Returns as this is a follow on from Superman II. Once you’re ready, you have Batman v Superman but you’d need to watch the Ultimate Edition as it plugs the odd gap on the theatrical release.
Ooohhh. You're watching the theatrical cut. Could you also do a reaction to the Donner/Director's Cut? It'd be interesting to see your views/reactions to what was changed.
“You will lose your powers and live as a mortal”

Superman really went "Yeah sex is cool, but have you ever tried getting your powers back?"
I’d recommend checking out Superman 2: The Donner Cut. It’s different enough and handles some things better; like a clearer explanation of how he got his powers back.
Lex JUST told the Kryptonians they won't be able to find Louis or Superman without him. VEEY NEXT SCENE: Kryptonians breaking into Daily Planet and "Blaze" says" wait, they know where Superman works."

12:50 "of course he's Jewish" is more than just a joke. Superman was invented by two Jewish immigrants. So, yes Superman is Jewish.
To echo what others may be saying, I do recommend watching both the 2001 Special Edition of Superman: The Movie and the 2006 version of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut.
Both films are meant to be what Richard Donner envisioned for Superman. These two Superman films set the bar for every superhero movie in the past 40 years.
and future too
I've watched this move multiple time and never noticed the Bill Cosby photo, hilarious. Good eye.
I'm pretty sure that's not Bill Cosby... it's OJ Simpson... who at the time, was an American sports hero. 😀
Nor I! I saw it 38 times in the theater alone. Never, ever noticed.
@@stevesalyer6261 Internet says it's bill cosby
Can't imagine anyone 40 or older could think that was OJ. I hope he was just joking.
Makes me happy to see the classics getting the love they deserve like this.

The loss of powers was forever because the crystal controls were to be destroyed when he used the crystal chamber. His parents hadn't anticipated that the main crystal would not be there when that happened. Thanks, Lois!
Kneel before Zod! Iconic line in a comic movie!!!

Donner cut is better
@@DaleStafford-dr7whyep
@@DaleStafford-dr7wh It's a more darker version from what I remember. Well more serious.
I prefer the theatrical release. It may be because I grew up with that version though.
I'm glad the Donner cut exists, but it's not necessarily better. There's a few problems with it.
Zod in superman 2 is one of my favorite movie villains!
I've loved this film since I first saw it in 1981.
Holy shit I am old now.
You should definitely check out Superman/Batman: Public Enemies seeing their friendship dynamic bounce off each other is so good!
Agree another classic is Worlds Finest
I second this

The Bill Cosby pic is an Easter egg: In one of his early stand-up performances, Cosby did a skit about Superman.

These alternate cuts reveal the true vision of Superman and Superman II. I'm gonna haunt your comments section until I see your reaction of these two GREATER cuts of these classic films. 😳😳😳
Now time for the sequel to _Superman II,_ which is _Superman Returns_ (2008).
We don't talk about the others. _III_ and _IV_ suck kryptonite.
Except for Lex Luther and the ones that plays enemies in it but Lois Ln., Superman they’re both dead otherwise known as Christopher Reeve
You should check out Superman 2: Richard Donner cut.
You are my new pre-recorded friend.
Check out the Donner cut next.
Bro you need to check out the extended tv version of Superman II. You'll be in for a big treat
Based on what you said at the end i think you will enjoy dceu movies like aquaman, shazam and wonder woman
I agree. The Donner cut is awesome for part 2 though
Hey Blaze, can you watch an animated movie called "Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"?
Don't worry about 4.
Part 3 and 4 are not good but! just like 1 and 2 there fun to watch worth a reaction.
Superman 3 was the Last of the good Superman films that starred Reeve. Superman 4 had a lower budget and the effects were not that great so if you watch that one, keep that in mind.
How the president of United States going to give planet earth to Zod without asking the other 195 countries? 😂
Watch the Richard Donner version of SUPERMAN II.
Ooohhh. You're watching the theatrical cut. Could you also do a reaction to the Donner/Director's Cut? It'd be interesting to see your views/reactions to what was changed.
Don’t watch Superman 3 and 4! Don’t do it! 😅
