      Had an LR3. Smoothest riding vehicle i ever drove. But in offroad height it was like putting offroad tires on a skateboard amd taking it offroad. Lifted wheels over even the tiniest obstacles just like the new defender. I prefer the solid axles of my 03 Disco. Doesnt lift tires near as much so its more stable on off camber obstacles bit Land Rover did do a good job with the electronics compensating for the lack of suspension travel. Still better offroad than most other SUVs.

    • @h2o_dug
      @h2o_dug 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have taking my LR3 around the same trail twice...The real air suspension secret is try to only use +1" of lift by doing some minor liner trimming. I have 33" KM3s and my wheels lift off the ground 90% less often than i did with +2" lift. After sliders, smaller v6 brakes to allow 17" rims is IMHO best LR3 mod.

    Own a 2021 P400 X, full spec. Couldn’t agree more, amazing and surprising rig. The simple fact I haven’t torn off any corners of the thing after a week in Moab, days in the san Juan’s and some hectic trails in so cal and central cal is a testament to the engineering that went into this rig. That and it’s really good as a desert runner, every trail I catch up to jeeps like they’re parked, just so good as an all around beast. Thank you guys for the parts, have put them to good use. Looking forward to the next video.

      @chazmic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iznbrgwhite421 After a year, I love it. No issues to speak of, but I've been to the dealer a few times for recalled/service bulletin parts. But these are things I can schedule, and get a loaner car, first generation problems. As far as economy goes, it's not that car. I'd say its doing what I expected, as I run a RTT, larger tires and other goodies, average about 16 mpgs-ish. It's such a nice rig to drive, it goes where ever I point it and does it comfortably. The traction control is mind blowing, it's certainly next level compared to other systems.

    Can't thank you guys enough. I've bought all of my disco upgrades from Lucky 8 amd it has definitely transformed it mechanically. Terrafirma HD steering bars, Tom Woods HD driveshaft, Rear HD Driveshaft u joint conversion, Terrafirma 3 inch lift, with extended stainless steel brake lines, yellow Urethane bushings, steel rear bumper and more to come. Other upgrades from elsewhere include EBC Rotors and pads, overhauled cooling system, CDL transfer case swap with CDL Linkage, 265/75/16 Goodyear ultraterrain tires, snorkel, safety devices roof rack. Had the engine rebuilt with ARP head studs and a Crower cam. Its not much of a looker cosmetically because of all the Texas pinstripes from offroading, but mechanically it has it where it counts. Next will be HD axle shafts, 4.11 gears and Detroit Truetrac diffs, steel front winch bumper amd then a coat of raptor liner to finish it off. Its a work in progress. Ive invested alot of time and money into it. Looking at maybe doing a Mercedes OM606 or OM602. Great video, really enjoyed it.

    I love that you guys really use these vehicles to their full potential and not just to soccer practice ⚽️
    The only thing I’d change on your Defender tho is the front skid plate to the one you can order from the factory with the built in and exposed towing eye. As the standard one is stupid as you have to remove the plastic to get at it, especially if you’re out on a trail etc 👍🏻
    I know you’ve installed a winch, but the front twink eye is handy for little problems and quick to use to tow someone out.
    Plus two options are better than one 🧐

    Very enjoyable and professionally edited video, Thank you!
    I think you said that you were going to discuss the modifications that were done to this vehicle, but I didn’t see them in this video… I see that the modifications are covered in the remarks below... Is there another video that discusses the how and why of these modifications?
    I’m curious about the modifications, because there’s a substantial difference between your Defender II versus what the factory offers… The TFL guys didn’t fare so well during their off road escapade. I had pretty well discounted purchasing this vehicle, but obviously with the right modifications, it is extremely capable… I love the Lucky 8 decals, they add a lot of style to that vehicle… Are they available? It’ll be interesting to see how the new Ineos Grenadier compares…

    I wasn’t sure if you were using the correct cutlery for each of the food courses, which just goes to show how brutal over landing can be! New Defender seems to have attracted a lot of haters, but it’s on my list for sure. I’m currently running an LR4 and after 8 years and 149,000 miles its only faults have been 3 door lock mechanisms which were under $200 each, fitted. My experience is that my LR has been better and cheaper to run than my Toyota, Jeep and Mercedes, and while that’s not everyone’s experience, it’s why I’ve kept it longer than any other car.

      Well that’s then Land Rovers issue for only offering a 19” wheel as the smallest offering for the 6cyl model. So stock on 20’s as equipped from the factory that’s what it did, slash tires on rocks. Jeep and Bronco didn’t have that issue because they (from the factory) had tires with some sidewall. Litebright did quite a bit of off roading prior to modding their stepchild Jeep. Broncos have been in Moab and Rubicon trail same as jeeps. So the fact modification is needed to run a proper tire on the new defender 6cyl is again Land Rovers issue. After some modifications they do seem quite capable though.

    New Defender could be nice replacement for my D4 but the Land Rovers pledge to increase their reliability came too late. If they are serious about it at all. Land Rovers are amazing machines if they work but the issues are dragging them down mightily. Unfortunately winning back the trust takes at least 2 model generations in my opinion. Or they should start doing recalls for obvious faults like the snapping crankshafts in 2.7 and 3.0 diesel engines (From D3 to D5). That would ensure people (especially former and current LR owners) that LR takes the pledge to reliability seriously and they are not left alone with a engine replacement bill.

    Sure it’s off-road capable but since it’s a Land Rover I wouldn’t feel comfortable off-roading in that. If there is any issue off-roading you want to be able to fix it. I can’t see people wanting to come anywhere near that defender when it comes to repairs. I drive a Tacoma and if something happens while off-roading I usually have some tools with me and Tacoma’s are easy to work on.

      It all depends on what goes wrong, how skilled you are at repairing what you are driving and how prepared you are for various scenarios. The same holds true for your Tacoma too (pending year). In the wrong and unprepared hands, it'll be just as hard to fix in the field as a Defender. Its about finding what is right for you and we respect that for you thats a Taco. We love the mix of capability and comfort with Defender and truthfully but we haven't really had any issues with our Defender despite driving some of the most challenging trails out there: Old Florida Road (Mass), Daniel (North Carolina) and this one in Kentucky.
