Oh boy. As a Brazilian who lives in the US and a fan of both, what a privilege it was being able to watch this. Sensational interview (and what a master class!) What a humble, knowledgeable guy. And, yes, Kiko playing baiao for Rick... That was amazing.
I've been saying this FOREVER.... the UPSTROKE is the heaviest part of metal rhythm guitar. You miss so much when you downstroke for life. I used to catch so much flack at GIT (and still in the YT comments) from the metalheads for using upstrokes in rhythm parts.... but that's where the real sauce is. Not surprising that Mustaine made sure his players got that nuance.
You know, I hope the musical world on TH-cam realizes what a true gem Rick is. He seems like such a genuinely good human being that really loves what he does. Watching his videos is like watching an old friend and I have never nor will ever have the pleasure of meeting him in my lifetime. His interviews are so incredibly good. His interaction with the guest and his really well thought out questions that never ask the typical crap every other channel asks is amazing. Love the guy.
Love Kiko. One of the greatest guitarists in the world today for sure. His work with Angra had some of the best power metal songs ever made. Amazing guy
Kiko is an incredible guitarist and seems like a genuinely all around nice guy , I follow him on his TH-cam channel and he's a down to earth guy who never comes across as condescending or cocky!
In Brazil he got that cocky reputation in workshops and Angra fans, but maybe was just a fase, he is very mature now. Or maybe some ppl just cath him in a bad day
I feel like this only scratched the surface. I wish there was a part 2 and 3 exploring training techniques etc. I'd love this guy as my music teacher. Good communicator, deep knowledge of musical influence, and a great shredder.
OK I learn more in 35 minutes that I have about music in years. I had been listening to this guy on Pandora and I liked a lot of his solo work but I had no idea just how much of a knowledgeable individual he is. This video blew my mind from start to finish. He’s an insanely awesome musician but on top of that he seems like a super amazing guy. I’m definitely going to show this video to my brother today. Because he is a guitarist and I think you’ll find it very interesting. As for me. Well I’m gonna dive in and check some more his stuff out.
Angra is one of my favorite bands ever. The way they combined Brazilian music and classical music with metal is something I had never heard before and still have not heard anyone else replicate it.
Kiko's left hand reminds me of an Olympic trained octopus. Octopi have an individual intelligence in each arm, and watching the quick, precise and strong dexterity of Kiko's left fingers (which seem a size bigger than an average person) was awe-inspiring - complete ownership of the frets was incredible. Watching him demonstrate his process, explore Brazilian musical culture with his utterly charming and unaffected personality was a real treat.
I remember seeing a TH-cam video of Kiko having this awesome backstage conversation with Tosin Abasi about a year ago. They shared ideas, shared a guitar, talked techniques and discussed the origins of many of the varieties of Brazilian music and being utterly blown away by Kilo’s vast knowledge and his amazing guitar abilities. It was really a case of Tosin being the student and Kiko the teacher.
Wow. Unfathomable competence, and such a happy, beautiful soul... So much happiness, always smiling. And...lordy..what chops. Those that don't sweep, to have such even time AND dynamics? Inspirational...
I admire Rick's restraint during the interview. Ask the questions, let the guest talk, and don't interrupt. So many people don't understand this concept. Thank you, Rick! It shows respect for both the guests and the audience! Keep up the great work! Rock it, brother!!
He ALWAYS knows how to get the best of his guests. Never asking the typical questions every people make. He’s truly so smart, hell y could be not a musician but a bloody astronaut for that matter. Merry Christmas 😎
Can totally relate to Kiko’s story about how 80’s Metal Heads were cultish in regard to what music was acceptable to enjoy. Was so refreshing going to a Def Leppard concert in 2008, totally enjoying it and not feeling a lick of guilt 😊
Both of these guys are so damn knowledgeable when it comes to music history and theory. Makes me want to get better 👍 So inspiring 🤘 This could have easily been a two hour conversation and I would have watched the entire thing in one sitting. 👍
Kiko is so dynamic . His great advantage is his willingness to learn all relevent music styles. That has created a full arsenal for him to access whenever he choses. What a great guy as well. Thank you for sharing so much.
Kiko is a very versatile player, His solo work is definately up there with the very best. Was hoping for a longer interview but I guess there were time constraints due to the show.
I saw Kiko with his old band, Angra, in Lisbon, Portugal on the Holy Land Tour in 96! Great guy, great guitar player and I'm happy he's getting the recognition he deserves! Not bad for a kid from Rio! Cheers!
I didn't know Kiko had this rich musical history, but I can hear it in his playing. He's such a tasteful guitarist and not just someone who plays fast.
@@mikeg6666 the way he perceives music carries a lot of brazilian influences like "chorinho" and other regional styles. He had classes with Mozart Melo, a very important classical teacher in Brazil.

Kiko is a living testimony that BENDS MATTER!. Among his fantastic playing abilities, the one that I enjoy the most is the tension and feeling of his bends and vibratos that take each of his solos to whole new levels. Stating that guitar is one of the very few instruments that allow this kind of expression is spot on.
Sure. Bends got a bad reputation from a certain type of boomer guitarist bending the same string for half an hour and acting like that's some kind of awesome, other than awesomely poor taste. 😉😉 But a good vibrato is highly prized to this day in metal. Another master of vibratos and bends in metal is André Olbricht of Blind Guardian. You might want to check him out. Mirror, Mirror is a good start.

And, yes, Kiko playing baiao for Rick... That was amazing.
Tu és brazuca?
KikO showed the gratitude we all should have for Ricks work.
Not surprising that Mustaine made sure his players got that nuance.
this conversation was so interesting! 35 minutes was not enough for me. Kiko is one of my absolute favourites!
Amazing guy
Yes! Holy Land in particular is a masterpiece. Carolina IV, the title track, and my my power ballad ever- Make Believe. So much to love.
Or maybe some ppl just cath him in a bad day
@@italozanoti7180 Who knows people change , he doesn't have a reputation of being cocky here in the states!
Definitely the best Megadeth album in years, Kiko is a great addition 🤘
I feel like this only scratched the surface. I wish there was a part 2 and 3 exploring training techniques etc. I'd love this guy as my music teacher. Good communicator, deep knowledge of musical influence, and a great shredder.
He has a lot of content about teaching, some courses too. Look it up
Part 2 and 3 you find in kiko’s guitar academy
How you play anything clean and fast. Over and over and relax. Dude obviously put in his work. Phenomenal player
This high school music teacher just became a fan. What a treasure…fantastic interview, Rick
It's pretty funny you call this a treasure as we literally call Kiko "the treasure" in Brazil
@@Alexandre_0 That's amazing! One thing I've learned in my study of music around the world: Brazilians KNOW their music!
What a Master Class from this guitar Giant !!!! Thank you Rick thank you Kiko !!!!!!!
a few strings and a pick... yet a whole lifetime of musical wisdom in this 35mins of interview.. EPIC !!!
Rick: "Kiko, Welcome."
Kiko: "Welcome." 🤣
I love this man's work, great interview!
So who's welcoming who 😂
In Brazil saying welcome is a greeting
LMFAO HAHAHA
@@Renzo8375867 no, it's not! When someone says welcome (bem vindo) in Brazil, the answer is thank you (obrigado).
haha I haven't noticed that, that makes sense, his english skills was somewhat off in this interview
Wow. Unfathomable competence, and such a happy, beautiful soul... So much happiness, always smiling. And...lordy..what chops. Those that don't sweep, to have such even time AND dynamics? Inspirational...
Kiko speaks a lot through showing and playing and I love it
This is a masterclass of Brazil music history.
Muito obrigado Kiko.
I've become a Megadeth fan today. 🖤Kiko seems like such a wonderful person.
Just today? Listen to PSBWB till Youthanasia. The rhythm riffs, the leads... it's great.
Checkout his previous band from Brazil "Angra" too!
Makes me want to get better 👍
So inspiring 🤘
This could have easily been a two hour conversation and I would have watched the entire thing in one sitting.
No way I was waiting for this. Kiko is amazing
Me too 🤯🥳
Right?! I couldn't pull this up fast enough!
Same here!
I saw Kiko with his old band, Angra, in Lisbon, Portugal on the Holy Land Tour in 96! Great guy, great guitar player and I'm happy he's getting the recognition he deserves! Not bad for a kid from Rio! Cheers!
Kiko is Music personified, such a joy. There is nothing that will hold him back or cap his talent.
What a fascinating interview....Kiko comes across as such a clear thinker....so refreshing !!.
He mentioned so many treasures of Brazilian music. Great to hear.
O cara é bom mesmo!!!
Talentosíssimo, humilde e de um conhecimento imenso. Não tem como não admirar.
I didn't know Kiko had this rich musical history, but I can hear it in his playing. He's such a tasteful guitarist and not just someone who plays fast.
Watch his interview with Tosin Abasi on his channel. I think you will like it.
listen to his "universo inverso" album he has a lot of jazz influenced stuff there
Kiko has got one of the most unique, precise and mesmerizing right hands in the business. - That interview was a real treat.
All of Ricks interviews are so incredibly rich.Thank you Mr.Rick Beato for bringing all these interviews!🎉
Kiko is just a bloody legend. Period. Love you dude.
I just saw this guy play with Megadeth in Oklahoma 2 months ago. Incredibly fast....plays beautiful notes....a wonderful guitarist!
Kiko mostrando toda a riqueza da música brasileira. Kiko showing how rich is Brazillian music. Great guitar player.
What is Brazilian about his playing? He sounds like a guitar player!
@@mikeg6666 the way he perceives music carries a lot of brazilian influences like "chorinho" and other regional styles. He had classes with Mozart Melo, a very important classical teacher in Brazil.
what a huge talk, what a huge class! listen a brazilian idol talking about our brazilian music in such a high level.. thats inspirational!
que baita conversa, que baita aula!
ouvir um dos meus ídolos brasileiros falando sobre nossa música brasileira num nível tão alto.. isso é inspirador!
A wonderful Ambassador
kiko is very virtuous and focused on what he does. deserves a second part. wow
i love kiko to bits. his album Universo Inverso is really a masterpiece
As a brazilian so proud about Kiko always paying respect to our culture. He's way beyond an ordinary musician!
Wow you can tell he's a great musician with all those styles.
Kiko is on another level! So knowledgeable. I’m so happy to see you interviewed him. 🇧🇷
WoW... Even do I´m a terribly bad guitar player, I had enjoy this video immensely... I´m completly jealous of those getting this in a deeper way... Let´s enjoy this moments! Greetings from Costa Rica!
