Please note: you can get very decent FPS (around 45-60FPS) on Spider-Man Miles Morales on this device with 1280x800, low preset, FSR upscaling and Dynamic Resolution Scaling set to 60. Slightly lower FPS with XESS. It runs way smoother now than at first. Probably due to Steam not pausing game downloads when in-game which apparently can cause a dramatic hit in performance. Make sure to manually pause any background downloads when playing on this device!

Incredible that a game like RDR2 can play so smoothly on a portable. When this game came out it was killing consoles and PCs. New tech like FSR surely helps but also a testament to long term improvements by the developers and also the state of silicon improving after just 3-4 years.
My personal best settings for RDR2 on the steam deck didn't include FSR and I got away with ultra textures. It stays locked to 30fps while looking good or 40fps with low graphics.
@@mrgamerwatch100 Ultra textures only. Most of the other settings are medium for the 30fps setup. To hold 40 FPS you're looking at low settings with Ultra textures as well. The 16GB of shared memory is plenty to keep textures that high.
As someone who pre-ordered the regular Steam Deck the day it was announced, i'm glad to see that Valve has been successful and is releasing new iterations of it.

I think the reason performance was so low in a few games (Miles Morales, TLOU Part 1) is because you are downloading games in the background. Game downloads use a good portion of the CPU! Performance should be quite a bit higher once downloads are completed

Running intense games utilizing 90%+ of its resources leaves little room for Steam to download and write games to the disk without some compromise (in this case, gaming performance).
I had a gaming laptop from around 7 years ago that struggled a lot to play GTA V and now we are able to play it in a handheld... This is amazing. I'll buy one of these beauties as soon as I can.
25 years ago we couldn't even imagine a game like RDR2 let alone playing something like that on a handheld. We would have laughed at the idea. & now here we are!

The fact this runs GTA 5 on 90fps is unreal! I played through the whole game on PS3 back in 2013 and just the thought of having it even playable (let alone at 90fps) on a portable handheld is just insane!

Under normal circustances, the machine would struggle to run a lot of these games but Valve has been incredible with support and this is the result. This is kind of what consoles makers do... how do you think RDR2 runs on that crappy jaguar PS4 CPU? Sometimes it even beats the ROG Ally which is supposed to be more powerful.

@@natusMCMII It's also a game that ran at only 30fps on 7th and 8th gen consoles, so triple that while maintaining decent graphical quality is pretty damn good. And the device doesn't seem like it's getting stressed to the max (around 85% GPU usage and like 60% CPU usage) so you could likely bump up the graphics settings.
I played through the entire Spider-Man: Miles Morales on my Steam Deck at around medium settings and with locked 30 FPS. Either something was downloading in the background, or there's some other issue. I'd try again after restarting the Steam Deck and maybe redownloading the game.
took me half an hour to get through to the checkout earlier, but managed to get one eventually. been playing my managers one for some time, nice little bits of kit. will install windows and use it as a computer as well.
I am loving mine so far as I just got the Oled model. Love that I can play PSP and also remote play on my PS5. The games run so well on it and it can do so much.

"Steep price" It's cheaper than the old SD. 64gb version has been replaced with 256gb for the same price with better specs. 1TB version is the same as the 512gb. All the old version decks have had a price reduction.
Steam Deck 2 isnt coming until at earliest 2025. Also not sure what youre talking about with consoles, I cant remember a single one that got an "upgrade" and then the full upgrade 2-6 months later If youre not the type to use the Deck that much then wait, but theres always something "better" 2+ years away. Just seems pointless if youll know youre going to like it now and you can afford it (like the other person said, this costs the same as the original Deck was costing 2 weeks ago but with more storage, really not too nuts in price)

Everyone was playing games a raspberry pi could run at 100 fps. I literally was so confused why no one was testing the triple A games
He did play while downloading games on the background, which hurt the performance of some games, so not the best testing.

they already said they don't plan on releasing SD2 until late 2025 at the earliest if not 2026. So you'll be waiting 2 years at a minimum.
