Speaking as a neutral, this was one of the most exciting games I ever watched. I was emotionally drained by the end, and couldn't really get into NZ-Canada immediately after. Ireland had no business running it that close - how many Irish players would have started for Australia then? Popplewell and Geogheghan, and I don't think anyone else - but they played with every last bit of their souls. and gave us something special.

This game was typical of Ireland during the 1990s, plenty of heart, bite and bollock, but lacking that touch of class and maybe a bit of physical and mental strength to get over the line.

Depuis la création de la coupe du monde, c'est le seul quart de finale où les Irlandais ont réellement failli gagner. Ils ont encore fait un match admirable cette année contre les Blacks. J'espère qu'ils seront enfin récompensés à la prochaine coupe du monde. (mais pas contre la France ^^)
