Man! Besides the music being absolutely killin, this some of the best concert coverage I’ve ever seen! It’s like the editor is in my brain showing exactly what I want to see in every critical moment.
Fearless Flyers. A band made up of the sickest funk guitarist today, the best bass player to arrive on the scene in the last 20 years, and a man who is the cornerstone of modern fusion jazz guitar... and yet a drummer with only a kick, snare and hi hat still steals the show. Nate Smith should be a legend. Absolutely amazing band.
I love this show so so much. Not only is this the first time we have a high quality live vid of the Flyers, but it’s also the most human I’ve seen these players. There’s a few spots where they make a mistake, but it doesn’t matter! Nate drops a stick at 1:28, Mark comes in a bit early on Barbara (18:55), Joe flubs the intro to Bicentennial at 21:42, and Cory ends a bit late on Signed, Sealed, Delivered. (35:57) but it doesn’t matter, the groove keeps rollin and we’re still jammin.
This band is an inspiration to us all. This entire performance is riveting. I'm totally there. My first time hearing this, and it feels like a comfortable pair of shoes that I've been wearing for years. Joe Dart proves you don't have to move your entire body to dance like a maniac. Who knew? If that guy ever lets loose without his bass, I hope the camera's rolling. This is the shortest 36 minutes and 24 seconds ever. It leaves you wanting more. Groove this, shred that... oh yeah... The sound engineering, the magnificent camera work, and the delightful New York audience... the beautiful comments on this TH-cam post... Yes! It's a beautiful morning.
Shout out to Mark at 08:09, so tasteful you have to smile. These live versions are all primo! Love watching them have so much fun, finding the pocket and never leaving 🙌💯
From what I can see, I don't think the camera operators understood what a baritone guitar is and where it sits in the range. You can frequently see them zoning in on Joe or Cory on parts that are either particularly high or low but being played by Mark.
I don’t think it helps things that while the other three have their own quirky styles when they play, Mark is honestly pretty reserved in his body language/movement when playing.
