      @@veggieplot I’ve found you on TH-cam in recent months. Your plot is fab something we can all aspire to tbh and your advice is so helpful I’ve been gardening for a few decades now and I’m finding your tips really helpful. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing more 🤩

    I use a spare pop up cold frame they used to sell in Wilko for my onions as they are easy to store in the mesh shelving in them and move them in and out when the sun shines to dry them out.

    • @veggieplot
      @veggieplot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like that idea. I have some plastic shelving that works really well too, although this year I have no where to move it in and out of, so I had to decant them the the polytunnel shelves.

      Out of 12 plants these are the only 5 remaining. I'm so glad to be having courgettes, which is a bit weird, I know.

    Wow well done. I love burpees golden. … my onions were rubbish this year , never did much , courgettes are doing well and so are the French beans … tuberous parsley is a new thing this year ; I ve never had it before . Got a nice harvest of tomatoes today, quite happy 😃 it s been a long wait and a rubbish growing year . More beetroots are waiting to be planted, black reddish too and chicory… something for later in the year. 😊

    • @veggieplot
      @veggieplot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, Sandrine. Do you have any tips for Chicory? I haven't grown it before but was thinking about it this year. I'm glad you finally got some tomatoes. Tomorrow, I'm hoping to pick some of your Amish Sherbert, which are just ripening up. Such a stunning and large tomato. I had never heard of tuberous parsley, so I just looked it up. It's very interesting and looks just like a parsnip. The flavour sounds good, so I might order some seeds to try.

      @@veggieplot hello. I grow chicory de Castelfranco which looks like a huge lettuce … use the leaves cooked like spinach… the young leaves are good enough in a salad… I ‘d love to grow Witloof chicory but they have to be kept in the dark half buried … it needs a good setup

      Thank you, I have been growing from seed for the last few years but mine failed this season so I had to use sets. It's been a whacky year this year.

  • @ibrstellar1080

    • @veggieplot
      @veggieplot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My onion seeds failed as well, hence using sets and my first batch of leeks failed too. It's been a difficult year.

    So making plum jam 😂😂. Some absolutely fantastic veg harvests and wooooowww that cauliflower 😮. Looks like it’s greyed over at the allotment we are mid torrential rains with a few clear hours not days to get outside. Excellent onions Chris 👍. Have a fab week, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦

      Thanks, Ali, and sorry for the late reply-I’ve been busy (not) making plum jam 😂😂. The weather here has been a bit grey and rainy too, so I’ve been trying to squeeze in what I can during the clear hours. Glad you liked the onions, and the cauliflower was definitely a highlight this year! Hope you’re managing to get a few things done between the rain-what’s still going in your garden? Have a great week too!

    Fantastic onions. I have grown red baron for years with absolutely great harvests and storing until spring. This year is the first year of failure. Well I say failure, about 20 very small onions form approximately 50 plus planted out. I will be definitely trying some different varieties next year.

    The Lettuce looks fantastic as I can't grow lettuce on the floor due to slugs and your plot looks like an open field so it makes it less favourable for Slugs, the onions look good as I've had an average crop with a lot of them rotting off sadly.

    • @veggieplot
      @veggieplot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're quite right about the allotment site, it did used to be an open field, but we still get some huge Cornish slugs here, and I swear every critter in Cornwall is ten times bigger than where I used to live! It's been very wet hasn't it which I guess hasn't helped with rotting off. Fingers crossed that next year will be more favourable although that's no consolation for this year. I feel for you.

    • @veggieplot
      @veggieplot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Danny, I often start mine off in modules and transplant out, but not always. There's no point me digging as the soil is so thin on the allotment, Cornish stones everywhere! Your new plot is doing really well, especially those beans.
