Ah, more memories. I'll expand on that by saying I now live in WA, my mother was born in Pt Augusta and grew up in Tarcoola. My father worked for SA railways and we grew up in Adelaide.
@@driver667 Connections, yeah. I didn't mention Mum's dad was a Fireman/Driver on the East-West line. Never knew him as he died of an infection at the beginning of WW2.
It is a great railway, ocean beach views, the perfect distance and three towns of interest and things to do. However there could be improvement. For example the distillery next to the station while the train is getting ready to depart, a bar attendant walk along the platform with a trolley selling their product through the open windows of the carriages, scotch on the rocks or martini....them further along, the Elliott Pub on The Strand at Port Elliott almost next to the track at the level crossing could have an outdoor very long bar parallel to the track at carriage window level. As the train slowly goes past pints of beer are waiting passengers reach out and grab a pint of beer through their open window. A bit like the old Seymour refreshment room but more outdoorsy and happy and drunk.
I used to work on that particular engine when it was on the narrow gauge in Peterborough, then the fireman’s job to keep pressing a button about every couple of minutes to stop the dead man’s brake activating as well as changing points if going into a passing lane, that was in the 1960’s
@@driver667 oh...pity! I've known a few land cruisers that do OK. Smell very salivating too! Don't need electronic tracking devices to know when they go past! Well... I should mention one of my favourite words... a bit of trans (transesterification) helps the running quality.
Great video 😊...I've watched the train pass for years, but this perspective is wonderful. So many familiar buildings and crossings ❤
@@susanjacquier5358 very happy you enjoyed this different look at the railway and enjoyed it 👍😀
