As a Glenhuntly resident sure appreciate the new Glen Huntly station and the station tramstop, watched a video recently from 1976 of the Nerrim Rd manaul crossing, the guy never was in a great hurry,at one stage, the gate swung back across the rail line and he nonchalantly wandered out to push it back, while a Hitachi train patiently waited, sure didn't make for fast train moves esp in peak times,50 years of changes
I feel it's been a while since I've actually been on this line. The last time I actually rode a train through McKinnon, it still had its unique interlocking boom gates. I used to get to watch trains from upstairs in the Hoyts cinema at Centre Rd. Bentleigh where my dad was a projectionist.
Notice all the sports balls around Ormond. On the down side are some tennis courts so lots of tennis balls on the track. I wonder if there is a regular ball collection patrol?
interesting that the first half of the video featured some quite un-victorian signals. I think the entire first half didn't feature any searchlight signals on the same track as this train, actually- I guess that the line must've had a signalling upgrade and they used it as a chance to test a new signal design as far as I know all new signals are back to being searchlights, so I guess that searchlights were preferred by the drivers and/or the railway safety people. I presume because they are more resistant to false aspects caused by reflected sunlight?
@@briannem.6787 search lights were actually the signals that had a lens with a globe and coloured shade behind it. The signals for a long time have been LED's. They can either be tricolour or individual colours. LED's can be seen from a long way back. The semaphores have been gone for a long time. The only old signalling around the suburbs now would be at Frankston. 👍😄

Basically to keep the Pakenham line as simple as possible for the automatic mode trains. But it reduces flexibility by a lot and hamstrings the system when something goes wrong. 🤔👍
@@ivanmilja9441 the signalman sets the points and the signals tell us where we are going. It's then up to us to make sure the signalman has got it right. 👍😀

It's changed quite a lot recently with the level crossing removals. It's almost not recognisable. 👍😄

Good one. I lived in Malvern in the 80's and Ormond in the 90's so a bit of a sentimental journey. Much has changed after Caulfield.

Love to see more of these ! Great quality too
Thank you. There will be more. Glad you enjoy them. 👍😀
Well this trainset is very fast. Nice video
Thank you. Very happy you enjoyed the ride 😀 👍
Now that I've seen much of the state, the time has come to see more of the city.🤠
Well... the bits above the concrete lined dives anyway.😁
Looks a little different to the country lines. 🤣😄👍

I say "as far as I know" as if this video doesn't literally show the quite-new glen huntly trench...
