It's interesting seeing cab views after all the level crossings have been removed.
Love suburban drivers view. More please.
More will come along. Have you checked out the suburban playlist? 😀 Glad you enjoy them. 👍😀
@@driver667 I think Ive seen everyone. Love them. I cant get out much anymore so I really enjoy them. Thank you so much.
@@kevinshelly6853 you're welcome. Glad you enjoy them. There will be more down the track. 👍😄
I feel it's been a while since I've actually been on this line. The last time I actually rode a train through McKinnon, it still had its unique interlocking boom gates. I used to get to watch trains from upstairs in the Hoyts cinema at Centre Rd. Bentleigh where my dad was a projectionist.
It's changed quite a lot recently with the level crossing removals. It's almost not recognisable. 👍😄
Good one. I lived in Malvern in the 80's and Ormond in the 90's so a bit of a sentimental journey. Much has changed after Caulfield.
Now that I've seen much of the state, the time has come to see more of the city.🤠
Well... the bits above the concrete lined dives anyway.😁
interesting that the first half of the video featured some quite un-victorian signals. I think the entire first half didn't feature any searchlight signals on the same track as this train, actually- I guess that the line must've had a signalling upgrade and they used it as a chance to test a new signal design
as far as I know all new signals are back to being searchlights, so I guess that searchlights were preferred by the drivers and/or the railway safety people. I presume because they are more resistant to false aspects caused by reflected sunlight?
I say "as far as I know" as if this video doesn't literally show the quite-new glen huntly trench...
@@briannem.6787 search lights were actually the signals that had a lens with a globe and coloured shade behind it. The signals for a long time have been LED's. They can either be tricolour or individual colours. LED's can be seen from a long way back. The semaphores have been gone for a long time. The only old signalling around the suburbs now would be at Frankston. 👍😄
@@driver667 I should've been clearer and said "searchlight-style"
and shit, I wrote SEMAPHORE there. I feel really dumb now. Always double-check your writing.
@@briannem.6787 don't worry, I've done that sort of thing before. We're all human. 🤣🤣👍
Pumped for the 2nd half of the line since it'll be my neck of the woods (Chelsea)
Interesting video. Just a quick question, does anyone know why all the connecting crossovers have been removed at Caulfield?
Basically to keep the Pakenham line as simple as possible for the automatic mode trains. But it reduces flexibility by a lot and hamstrings the system when something goes wrong. 🤔👍
The Long Island Steel Train to Hastings runs on the Frankston Line and Stony Point Line.
@@driver667 Yeah I love seeing those freight yeah I love seeing those freight trains going to Long Island in Hastings
Can I ask another question when the tracks all go in different directions how does the driver know what track to take
@@ivanmilja9441 the signalman sets the points and the signals tell us where we are going. It's then up to us to make sure the signalman has got it right. 👍😀
The brakes of Siemens trains have always sounded somewhat eerily supernatural to me.
Whats the perpose of 3 tracks form Caulfiel/ Glen Huntly onwards
Express trains between Caulfield and Moorabbin for each peak hour skip past the stops
As answered, express trains can overtake the stopping trains in peak hour. 👍😄
Looks like you've got a terminal case of the graffitis down there ?!
Enjoyed the trip 👍, did you start driving for metro again?
No, I still drive for vline but my camera likes to go for rides every so often. Glad you enjoyed the ride. 👍😀
Are v line drivers still able to do metro if they want to or can they only do v lines
Why did it only go to Moorabbin?
@@driver667 OMG! Did somebody cut Moorabbin in half?😳
What a tragedy.😥
Is it very difficult to become a train driver how long does it take to be qualified
It is very difficult to get a position and the course is intense. The course now has been reduced to one year of on job training. 👍😀
Is the medical difficult to pass do most people pass the training I’m thinking of applying myself
One has to be FEMALE now to become a driver. its all about GENDER WOKE crap.
@@ivanmilja9441 as long as you are not colour blind, apply. You never know if you don't give it a shot. 👍😄
As a Glenhuntly resident sure appreciate the new Glen Huntly station and the station tramstop, watched a video recently from 1976 of the Nerrim Rd manaul crossing, the guy never was in a great hurry,at one stage, the gate swung back across the rail line and he nonchalantly wandered out to push it back, while a Hitachi train patiently waited, sure didn't make for fast train moves esp in peak times,50 years of changes
Things are certainly different now. They could not have imagined the changes that would occur. 👍😄
