  • You lost your keys. You’re late for work. You have a big meeting. The boss is waiting on you. You ask Saint Anthony to help you find your keys…quick! But how does Saint Anthony even hear you from heaven?
    Today we look at the theology behind how saints in heaven can see your prayer requests (are enabled by God to help) through their mystical vision of God.

    Wow, good explanation. So, basically the Saints are in full communion w/ God, thus the "communion of Saints" prayed in the Apostle's Creed. It's great to hear information like this, because getting into Heaven and becoming a Saint is the whole point of our existence, right? Therefore, it's edifying to be reminded of this and keep the real end-goal and bigger picture in mind.

    I am so very very thankful for you, your knowledge and your teachings. This has been much needed for years and years. The Catholic people are not being taught, feed, helped to know our true faith. You are such a blessing to us all. May God bless you, and PLEASE continue to teach us.

    That is the best explanation I have heard for praying to the saints. The essence of God is a difficult concept, but the big screen TV idea is great with the saints and angels sharing in the vision of God's knowledge that they can communicate with us. Did not realize they could see and hear us, I don't remember it being explained very well. Thank you, Taylor Marshall. You are clear and deliberate in your delivery, and short and sweet.

    My Devout Catholic Sister said to me once. “I don’t believe the people in Heaven can see what we are doing because there is no suffering.” “ I think, God doesn’t let him see what’s going on on earth bc he doesn’t want them to suffer.” What are your thoughts her conclusions?

    Provocative ideas for my protestant family members who always say, "I have the Holy Spirit within me... So I pray directly to God don't need saints." Find asking saints intercession helps expand my prayer life and meditation practices. Their lives of perfection and the focus of their gifts from God are true treasures full of lessons on living in earth.

    Question: In Seminary I remember being taught that the souls in purgatory hear our prayers and intercede for us. By your explanation today how Saints hear our prayer, would you say then the souls in purgatory have in part the beatific vision?

      Tim Cumberland. Yes and yes.
      We are made for intimate union... first with God and through Him, with one another.
      Nothing is hidden that will not be revealed. There is no darkness in God at all. We will share in his Light... in his intimate knowledge of creation, of one another, etc. There are no more hidden agendas and motivations where love is found present.

    I believe that protestants do not catch the meaning or misinterpret the Bible. Because they belive God is a personal God and their sins or actions will not be observed by Angels or saints contrary to Revelations19:1-2, Luke 15:7 and 10, Matthew 18:10, Psalms 91:11-12. There are many more passages that show your words are true. Its truly unfortunate after so much evidence they still are hardened at heart.

    Hi! Can the souls in purgatory also pray for us? I've heard some preachers say that we can also ask for prayers for souls in purgatory. If that is correct, how can they hear our prayers?

  • @DominicMazoch

    EUCHARIST: This is one which is the easiest and the hardist at the same time.
    Assume these sentences are said during the Anaphora/Eucharistic Prayer/Canon.
    This bread is My Body.
    This wine is My Blood.
    "IS" here is a linking verb, meaning the nouns/pronouns on each side of it are equal:
    Bread = My Body
    Wine = My Blood.
    So simple. So Biblical. Yet takes that leap of faith to accept.

      God doesn't need any help. God can help you find your keys! Oh my, this is just so silly. I mean, do you think Jesus needed any help saving us from our sins? God is ALL powerful. Do we get that? He is outside our domain. No time or distance or anything can diminish his power or understanding. He created ALL. He can hear all our prayers and can answer them all. I'm sorry but I don't know Mary. I don't have a personal relationship with her. Guess what? God doesn't want us too! She isn't here. That would be sorcery. Conjuring up Spirits. Bad stuff guys. Let's not forget, all people have sinned. No one is good but God. Any good that has come from a person, even those great people of the bible, were not of that person but from God through that person. We are not good on our own. We should not pray to those people. They will not hear you and can not speak back to you. If you are hearing voices from some one other than God, it is not a saint it is from an evil entity. This is so dangerous. Leo, read your bible as a child would forgetting the indoctrination of the church and ask God to reveal to you His true message.

    • @charliegreska5240
      @charliegreska5240 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mighty Leo I believe that you cannot pray to the saints but you can ask the saints to pray for you. Its not biblical to pray directly to the saints. Look up intersession of the saints.

    • @defman9414
      @defman9414 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You are correct in that God doesn't NEED our help. But it is through the generosity of God that He ALLOWS us to participate in His process of restoring us all back to Life.
      From the Bible... was it not the faith of the friends who carried the paralytic to Jesus... which resulted in the paralytic being healed? what is that if not Exhibit A of intercessory prayer?
      Was it not through the disciples hands... that people were healed... because of their intercessory prayers through the laying on of hands? was it not Jesus himself who sent them out two-by-two for this most important work of mercy?
      it is the fulfillment of the foundational commandments of God... to love our neighbor as ourselves. To pray for one another is nothing less than the fulfillment of this commandment of God which he says, along with loving God, is the foundation of all the rest.
      "as often as you did it for the least of these, you have done it FOR ME!" say's the Lord.
      God is not a God of the dead but of the living. The saints are MORE alive in CHRIST than we are because they are closest to God and possess Him. Praying to the saints is not the same thing as divining spirits of the dead, using ouija boards or other occult attempts to control through using mediums, etc. Praying to the saints and the occult have nothing in common... neither in intent nor in practice.
      The Gift of God is never meant to be kept for myself... but is only wholly given away. Thus the saints, who already enjoy the life of heaven and are actually holy and do the will of God, only seek to share the goodness of God which they themselves already possess, with us... by helping us to attain the goal of faith, which is the choice for love and away from self.

  • @seangallagher9580

    Taylor, according to your beatific vision explanation, the saints "see" the prayers addressed to them in what God already knows. How does this make praying to a saint more efficacious than praying to God? Why will God refuse to reveal to me the location of my keys if I ask Him, but grant the wish if I ask St. Anthony? I realize this goes beyond the exposition of "How" in the title, and moves on to the question of "Why", maybe a subject for another podcast?

    Too complicated.... keep it simple and pray to God the Father through Jesus.
    I still dont understand why we feel Jesus Christ who being in the nature God who took on the nature of a Servant, so he be like us in every way would not feel our need.
    The same John who visited the young man with the blessed Mary records Jesus saying "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." John 16:24.
    Peace of Christ be with you all.

    Maybe I'm dense, but I really don't understand the answer. Or I should say, I don't hear it answering the question at heart.
    If God hears the prayer to send it to the saint, who then asks God for the favor - why ask the saint to begin with? Maybe I'm missing something. I don't mean to sound disrespectful.
    The second issue I have is trying to believe that I will know the 'essence' of God. I can't imagine any created being coming to know the 'fullness' of God. To me, His greatness is beyond what any created mind can capture. And so, I believe, through all eternity we'll be learning more and more about our wondrous God.
    Maybe I'm wrong, but this is how I see the 'essence' of God. Every 'day' (of course not like our days now) will be new and exciting in learning of the depths of our endlessly loving God.

    Revelation 6-9/10 says The Christians who were murdered, cry to God asking God to bring judgment for the people who killed them . They do not pray, they do not hear our prayers. For example St. Sebastian does not pray for but ask God to bring Judgment.

      gerald8057 the host and saints of heaven had bowls that were the prayers of the saints on Earth .
