You could put tiny scaled down trees on the top of the mountain as a sort of forced perspective trick, to make the mountain look bigger rather than smaller
23:44 since it's obviously an eroded piece of land, add a few gray boulders on the bottom. Maybe even a fresh one that rolled off the top and made a brown streak of disturbed earth. Maybe make one go through a house like it happened in Italy.
I would say add a small tree or shrub on the side of the mountain. Typical trees aren't on mountain tops because of elevation but they often grow through resilience in some obscure places. I personally think one or two small shrubs could add a lot of life
Yes, a small tree kinda hanging off the edge of a rock. I always find those fascinating when a tree manages to find enough soil in a crack in a big rock.

The mountain fits in perfectly. It makes it look like the house is built on an eroded spike and will fit in great once there are more. Maybe more eroded spikes would make the landscape interesting too, rather than having all tall spikes.
I would say the mountain here takes inspiration from volcanic neck geologic formations where the hard solidified volcanic rock trapped in a volcano remains after the mountain around it erodes away. Love how good this looks.
Considering the sedimentary lines, I thought he was going for one of those areas where a whole plateau eroded, but the top layer of these spikes is made of some erosion resistant stone. I'm picturing a red rock desert with white caps on the tops of the cliffs. I'm no geologist but I've heard of that phenomenon before as a reason for these kinds of spike fields.

The mountains you imagine are somewhat common on Earth actually. It is called karst and it happens with limestone, which is easily eroded by water leaving behind mountains of not so easily eroding rock, like the mountains you imagine behind your base.
Seeing the one pillar in the distance and imagining another 6 is wonderful but I think you could even get away with a single floating rock formation for a bit of whimsy. Even though it does look like it's still very vanilla there is almost an otherworldly peace to your area and I feel like an unapologetic floating rock island among the other spires that isn't the focus of any part of the terrain, just present, would kind of add to that feeling.
That mountain placement is perfect!! Putting right where the river bends makes it look extremely realistic. I don’t know if that was on purpose, but it looks really good in that spot. Surprisingly, not Grian this time, but also not surprising with the fact it's Joel, haha Your hit list tweet forever lives rent-free in my head, I believe you did swear vengence on him for horse murder so its funny to actually watch this play out.
The mountain is amazing! Adding a few more will really make it look like the glasshouse mountains in Australia. Geologically these formations are called intrusive plugs, which are the remnants of old volcanoes. Lore wise volcanic activity in the area would even make sense with both magic mountain crew and Doc planning to build volcanoes.

I think a tiny tree could look good on top instead of a big one. IF noticed, I think it would make the mountain look even bigger than it is, instead of a big tall tree making it look smaller. Maybe a couple small/skinny ones on the outside of the top. Love it either way!
I'm in the jaw dropped club, that first mountain looked incredible. It actually doesn't even feel that out of place. Coming from the forest, you have this little rocky hill that you built your house on, and the mountains just feel like extensions of that. SO GOOD
When I was hiking in switzerland a lot of the mountains had some kind of monument on top from the first people to climb them. (Like a cross or small statue) could be kind of a cool, small thing to put on your mountain.

That mountain looks so good. I love the shapes the cracks make and the colors look so nice. About trees on top of the mountain - I think you could do a forced perspective thing if you made *really* small trees on it. It could end up making the mountain look even taller
Put a little camp site on top, campfire, lil tent with a bed- I think it’d be a cool spot for you to look over as you do outros so we can survey the progress of the area
As someone born and raised on Utah, i adore that mountain. I see those all the time in south utah, though the color pallet differs XD Anyways i love it, i cant wait to see what the base area looks like with a few more added in!
Putting a big tree on top of the mountain would definitely make it look a bit smaller, but there's always the Disney forced perspective method of putting a really small tree up there to make the mountain look even bigger. Maybe a tree with just walls for the trunk like some of the smaller ones in your forest?
The mountain is gorgeous, I love how it reflects a lot of real life erosion. There are formations like these in real life, mainly in canyons where the rocks are softer and errode easier, but in other places too, most notably the Katskhi Column in Georgia, my home country, which looks EXTREMELY similar to this build. I love it.
A few things I want Bdubs to add. Add fairly tall trees on the bottom of the mountain but as you go up the mountain makes the trees smaller and by the top make them only 3 or so blocks tall to create forced perspective. Additionally, steep mountains like the one you built are usually formed by erosion so you could add evidence of erosion like rocks accumulated at the bottom, rockslides and loose rock fragments. Lastly, create a massive flock of birds using trapdoors for the wings and like solid blocks or slabs for the main body.
Love the mountain! I think the foliage on top looks great as is. If you wanted to put a tree on it, though, I think a tree that swoops downward would look cool. Like those trees that grow out of cliff faces, or like a cascade bonsai tree.
I love this vision with the mountains. A town in Southern California called San Luis Obispo has these 3 mountains that are completely alone and just a random spike in the flatish area. They provide a view from whatever angle you look at, making the area scenic just because of those mountains.
..i just finished Joel's episode...i love how bdub's prank back for joel killing soo many horses...is to bring him MORE horses....you doomed them all good sir 😅
Love the mountain! You should add another on the border of the forest to the yard as a natural barrier, makes sense the trees won't spread past the stone :)
i love the mountain! it looks just like a real place - the Glasshouse Mountains, a collection of long-eroded volcanos here in southeast Queensland, Australia. the landscape is pretty flat, like your area, and the contrast between that and the mountains is such an incredible sight. it's a geology nerd's heaven. i'm excited to see the rest!
26:17 i think some of the perspective trickery is from it being on the other side of the river, and that plane separation kinda making it seem farther away than it is, so looks bigger than it is. something to keep in mind for the other ones
Bdubs! I have an idea for you- What if you let Mrs. Bdubs play a hermitcraft or building with Bdubs episode it will be an absolute banger for us viewers and it will be HILARIOUS if you join with her commentating on what she does but not telling her what to do. Guys in the chat please back me up.❤🧡💛💚💙💜
When he was explaining his mountain before building, his camera work gave me whiplash, back and forth so much! The mountain is gorgeous! More like Chimney Rock in Nebraska than Bryce Canyon. It's going to look amazing with more.
If you squint a bit, the way the mountain moves as you get closer to the tree makes the mountain look massive. Also, the use of mid-shaded blocks in the shadows instead of something like mud pairs really well with Simple Fog, since you expect the shadows to be dark when the highlights are that bright (bright exposure look). You almost expect to see very little detail in the shadows, but since you can see some of those details, it kind of looks like thicker fog, suggesting the mountain is much further back and therefore much larger. That's the bdubs touch I'm here to see. 👏👏👏
Wind erosion often plays a huge part in mountains becoming like that, and the erosion often leads to huge chunks coming loose and falling off in sections leaving the mountain to have those flat areas - would be interesting to see evidence of that like some boulders and "rubble" around the bottom (probably overgrown by now) to add to the interesting skyline's story!
The lore for these mountains could be that they are old petrified humongous tree stumps, certainly looks quite a bit like it, and it would really fit with yours and Scars trees. Almost as if that wider area was always rich with trees but the environment has changed to no longer support quite as big trees.

19:42 "Im going to hurt him ☺️"
Put a little camp site on top, campfire, lil tent with a bed- I think it’d be a cool spot for you to look over as you do outros so we can survey the progress of the area
Return of horse curse!! I hope he finds out the full scope of horse death behind the billboard
I love the scale proportions for the tree leading into the mountain, It's the perfect height to add the far off look using depth.
I'd watch a whole video of just bdubs beating ravenger rush
As someone born and raised on Utah, i adore that mountain. I see those all the time in south utah, though the color pallet differs XD
Anyways i love it, i cant wait to see what the base area looks like with a few more added in!
Horse curse on you? Bdubs this is a blessing for Joel. I guess you don’t really know how much he loves killing horses.
the mountain reminds me of devils tower or chimney rock in nebraska! very high plains very good yes
Putting a big tree on top of the mountain would definitely make it look a bit smaller, but there's always the Disney forced perspective method of putting a really small tree up there to make the mountain look even bigger. Maybe a tree with just walls for the trunk like some of the smaller ones in your forest?
Yeah, I was thinking that if a normal, or even half sized, tree would make the mountain smaller, would a very tiny tree make it look taller?
Watching Bdubs brute force Ravenger Rush is amazing 😂
I’m loving all of the hermit interactions, just so happy and easy with eachother
"But mine is tiny... How big is yours?"
"It's pretty tiny."
"Oh yeah! Mine's a little bit bigger."
Just wanted to commit this to writing.
I love this vision with the mountains. A town in Southern California called San Luis Obispo has these 3 mountains that are completely alone and just a random spike in the flatish area. They provide a view from whatever angle you look at, making the area scenic just because of those mountains.
Yes! I love being a paywall friend lol
Can’t WAIT for Joel’s episode 🤣
Blessed to be a member!!!
Yo its the goat
@@coleyoung2934 if you’re referring to me thank you?! If you’re not I’m sure I agree with you on whoever you’re speaking about haha
@@Feather-Fetcher I am referring to you yout videos are epic
@@Feather-Fetcher Hes right. Your builds are epic. Love the content.
@@Feather-Fetcher your video was just in my recommend this is crazy
..i just finished Joel's episode...i love how bdub's prank back for joel killing soo many horses...is to bring him MORE horses....you doomed them all good sir 😅
Oh they sure got retired, alright
Love the mountain! You should add another on the border of the forest to the yard as a natural barrier, makes sense the trees won't spread past the stone :)
A HermitCraft season where Bdubs doesn’t build a mountain is a very sad season indeed.
i love the mountain! it looks just like a real place - the Glasshouse Mountains, a collection of long-eroded volcanos here in southeast Queensland, Australia. the landscape is pretty flat, like your area, and the contrast between that and the mountains is such an incredible sight. it's a geology nerd's heaven.
i'm excited to see the rest!
Don't worry about Joel's higher score, Bdubs. He's obsessed.
What I reall like is that Pillager outpost in the background, maybe a few small building/huts like that between the mountain pillars?
Bdubs is the Bob Ross of minecraft! What an happy little mountain :)
Now time to give it some happy little friends lol
26:17 i think some of the perspective trickery is from it being on the other side of the river, and that plane separation kinda making it seem farther away than it is, so looks bigger than it is. something to keep in mind for the other ones
Bdubs! I have an idea for you- What if you let Mrs. Bdubs play a hermitcraft or building with Bdubs episode it will be an absolute banger for us viewers and it will be HILARIOUS if you join with her commentating on what she does but not telling her what to do. Guys in the chat please back me up.❤🧡💛💚💙💜
A whole episode is a bit much, i like it, but i know not everyone does. Could be fun to get them in to check out a build or something
Should try to do a bonsai tree on one of the cliffs. If anyone can do it, it's Bdubs!
Me coming from Joel’s video:
Yeaahhhh…
They retire…
(to a farm…)
When he was explaining his mountain before building, his camera work gave me whiplash, back and forth so much! The mountain is gorgeous! More like Chimney Rock in Nebraska than Bryce Canyon. It's going to look amazing with more.
Your mountain butte reminds me of the Bear Lodge (aka Devils Tower) in Wyoming. Really cool!
That spike reminds me of those really tall spire boss places in Cube World that sucked to climb up, I love it
Meteora, Greece has terrain just like this!! And they built old monasteries on top of some of the mountains....maybe a thought??
The lore for these mountains could be that they are old petrified humongous tree stumps,
certainly looks quite a bit like it, and it would really fit with yours and Scars trees.
Almost as if that wider area was always rich with trees but the environment has changed to no longer support quite as big trees.
Listening to papa k and bdubs compare mountain sizes gave me quite the chuckle 😂
The mountain reminds me of the Thridrangaviti Cliffs off Iceland. A lighthouse might not fit, but a small (0.5/1 scale) house could look cool on top.
The mountain reminds me a bit of Devil's Tower in Wyoming. You do see big tower-like mountains like that on their own in some places.
