    Thank you for this excellent view of this scenic area.
    I've heard of this hike, but never seen the details you offered.
    Very impressed with the views.

      Hi Ken, you're welcome, and thanks for watching. It's a fun and popular hike, since it's the TX highpoint. And yes, the views are really nice. Hopefully you can see them in person some day.

      Hi Ashley, that's great, it's an awesome place. I spent a lot of time there when I lived in Texas. I hope you have a good time. You're welcome!

    I hiked up on June 17th, 2017. I planned to camp overnight and hiked up to the high camp but did not bring enough water. I set up my tent and promptly hiked back down, dehydrated and sick.
    The next day, I licked my wounds and hiked all the way to the top and came back down to camp in the tent I had set up the night prior.
    It was an eye opening experience and now I always keep a liter reserve in my pack for myself or others.
    The first part of the trail was the most challenging but I feel like anyone can hike this with a little bit of training. The views from up top were incredible!

      Hi SSJ, that's too bad that you ended up dehydrated, but at least you made it back up there. It's definitely important to carry more than enough water, and a few times I really needed to have more with me. I think lots of people could make it, it just may take them awhile, and you're right, the views were awesome.

    We completed the torturous hike to the top and back down a few days ago. We are in our mid-60’s and the cold, gale force winds nearly did us in but we made it!

      Hi Kelly, I'm sure you had a good time even though it was tough. The wind can be hard to deal with there. That's great that you made it though. It is a beautiful place. Thanks for watching!

    Camping up there is awesome at sunset and full moon!

      Hi Claude, I never camped up there, but I'm sure it would be awesome at those times. I was up on the summit for sunset once, and it was very beautiful, and very peaceful. It's an awesome place!

    I've driven past this park a hundred times passing through. You motivated me to hike it this fall.

      Hi Odie, the Guadalupe Mts. are an awesome place. I first did GP over a year before this video. It was my first bigger hike in Texas, and it was really fun. You will enjoy it.

    I attempted to hike up Guadalupe on New Years Eve with the intention of camping out at the camp spot towards the top. I wanted to do my first winter backpacking trip and put my gear to the test. I was prepared for 25-30 degree weather but things were much different that day. It was expected to be 13 degrees with high winds. I still hiked up there with my backpack but wasn't able to camp out. Next time!

      Hi eNdo, that's too bad it was that cold. It would have been rough camping out in that. Hopefully the hike was good and you got some nice views though. I was at the Guadalupe Mts. on the 28th and 29th, but at McKittrick and Dog Canyons.

      Hi Jess, it's definitely a nice drive just going through there. It's hard to keep your eyes on the road, at least for me! Maybe you can make it up to the peak sometime. The views up there are awesome. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks Zack for posting your hiking vids. I just completed this hike in mid July. I started at 7 am and it was 70 degrees. The early part of the hike puts the hurt as it is steep and i wasn't warmed up yet. The views are amazing. I reached the peak in 2 h 45 m. It must have been 60 degrees and very windy up there. On my way down i met a Mule train heading up with alot of water. Does the campsite near summit provide a reservoir for campers ? When i reached the parking lot past noon it was 88 degrees. I was fortunate to hike in great temps. I want to hike the Bowl next time.

      Hi rldogg, you're welcome, and thanks for watching them. That's good that it wasn't too hot then. I've never seen mules or horses on the trail, and I wonder how often people use them. There is no reservoir up there. You have to bring all the water you need. The Bowl is pretty nice. At the end of the trail there is a nice mountain meadow and some big trees. There are lots of trees once you get up to the Bowl trail. It's really beautiful up there. Good job on the hike and I hope you can make it back soon!

    Your dad is a real trooper doing that hike in jeans and tennis shoes. Love that climb. Iv'e watched your vids on Shumard and Bartlett also. Good stuff. I subbed ! Best of luck with your future adventures.

      Hi Bluecollar Backcountry, thank you! That's my dad's normal hiking attire on the few hikes we've done together. We all enjoyed the climb of Guadalupe Peak, and it is definitely a good one. I want to do the four highest peaks together if I get a chance to make it back there soon, or maybe later when my son is old enough.

    I'm planning on hiking this in November. Any advice?

    • @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer
      @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Lone Crow, it's a pretty easy hike. To give you an idea, my dad was 60 at the time and was doing no conditioning at all. Just have some extra water, and layers, in case you are out there for awhile. It could be pretty windy there in November, so be prepared for that, and the wind chills if it's colder. Thanks for watching!

    June, July and August are not the ideal months to climb there. I do September thru December. Nice hiking during those months and a great overnight at the high campground too without the Spring winds there.

    • @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer
      @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only camped there once, in December, and I didn't have enough layers with me. I don't mind the heat but it could be a problem if you're not careful. This was a slow pace, and it was actually a pretty crowded day.

    any scary points of the hike, i would like to do this but get vertigo with narrow trails with drop offs

    • @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer
      @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, there are a few places where you are walking along a cliff with a steep drop. I think just 2-3 spots, and they don't last very long. Maybe just staying on the opposite side would help, and not looking down either? I never felt in danger, but the potential of falling would be there if something went wrong.

    • @herodotus7
      @herodotus7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can make it to the top even with a fear of heights. Like Zachary says, there are just 2 short spots where there is a steep drop off or cliff. The first spot is filmed in this video and it isn't a straight drop down. You can hustle by it if you're nervous. The trail is wide and there is no chance of falling unless you're being exceptionally stupid.
      The second spot is heading down to the wooden bridge where there is a cliff, but it is also short and there are trees and bushes between the trail and the cliff, which kind of serves as a natural fence.
      I get vertigo myself, and I didn't have a problem. I think anybody can do it. The day I went up there were two Japanese families that brought their kids along with them. The youngest was 6.
      The non-horse trails in the park might be a little spookier higher up because they are more narrow, but the grade they are on is just steep and not straight down.

      @Hoople Fan I'm sure you had fun. Yes, I think most people put the cliff sections in their videos. It's a great hike, but from what I hear it is getting more and more crowded. I've been the first one up there a few times, and that was really nice. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Caden, this one took us long since we were taking our time. I think around 6 hours total. I've done it in around 2:30 though. But if it's your first time just take your time and enjoy the scenery. Thanks for watching!
