Is this the Arizona License Plate?
The picture on the Arizona license plate is perfect for the state, and one that is very recognizable. On this hike, I revisited a peak that I have summited twice before. During my first visit to this peak, I began to think about the license plate, and if this was the actual location it was taken from or based on. So I waited until the sun was at the right location in the sky, and I made the hike once again to get some footage and figure it out.

Battle Axe Butte is located about 10 miles south of Superior, AZ, to the west of Highway 177. A few dirt roads lead out to the base of the mountain, and the first ~ two miles should be ok for a passenger car. My brother and I took my other brother's 4Runner so we could get to the base, and we began the climb up from there. This was another fun desert peak which does have a couple of 4th or 5th ...

On, or possibly before, September 10th, a fire broke out on the Superstition Ridgeline. The next day, September 11th, my family and I made our weekly trip to Canyon Lake to swim. Strides are a great way to get into better shape for hiking. • @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer
      @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Giani, I don't think you can fly anywhere in the park itself, but you might try from the highway just south of the park. The highway winds uphill south of the park and El Capitan, and there is at least one place to pull over there and get some views. It should be still outside of the park boundary, so that would probably be a good spot to launch from. Although if you fly it north a little you will cross it into the park boundary then.

    I think peak bagging is great if the point is to go out and experience new places in nature. I’ve always preferred to summit a mountain, way before anyone used the term peak bagging. To me a hike that doesn’t reach the summit is not a complete hike. But I don’t look at it as just collecting peaks on a list. It’s about setting goals and meeting challenges and receiving that deep satisfaction at the summit you’ve chased all morning.

    I hiked up on June 17th, 2017. I planned to camp overnight and hiked up to the high camp but did not bring enough water. I set up my tent and promptly hiked back down, dehydrated and sick. The next day, I licked my wounds and hiked all the way to the top and came back down to camp in the tent I had set up the night prior. It was an eye opening experience and now I always keep a liter reserve in my pack for myself or others. I try to do these once a week or so, just doing these around the block. A few laps and I am good to go - not as fun as the desert trail runs, but it gets the job done in a pinch and is good for speed training. These days I focus more on picking my feet up high over long strides. Nice form - your head is very steady and not too bouncy!! Speaking of which, can I ask how you keep your running video so steady??

      Hi Joseph, that's good, and you are more consistent than I am. You probably put in more miles in a week than I do in a month. I need to get back into doing them more regularly, even if it's just on the street in front of the house. Thank you. I use a DJI Osmo Pocket for all the moving shots. I just held it in my hand a few times when I was running, and held it as steady as possible. It does a great job of staying stable though. I use it on all the moving shots on my hikes.

      Hi JortsInJuly, thanks and thanks for watching. Big Bend is an awesome place, and that's neat that you live so close to it. There's so much to do and see there. I can't remember how long it took, but it may have been less than three hours. Carter is definitely a fun peak, and the views are great too.

      @@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer thanks for replying! I actually decided to give it a go today. The views did not disappoint. Going up the scree field was tougher than I anticipated, the whole thing took me a solid 7 hours. I underestimated the heat considering how much water I had. It was a close call but I made it back in one piece, another peak down. Next I’m going to go camp up at Pulliam and try to get to Vernon-Bailey from up there as well. The route you took up to Vernon does not look fun, not gonna lie lol. Thanks again, I hope you’ve gotten to make it out here some more since then.

      @@re4283081 you're welcome. That's great that you made it, even though the heat was tough. Maybe it took me longer than about 3 hours, but I don't remember it being too much time. I'll have to rewatch the video sometime. My route to Vernon Bailey was steep and loose, but I really enjoyed it, and it was nice to find a route up when I wasn't sure there would be one. Hopefully you can make it up there soon. I was back at BB at the end of April/early May, and I climbed Elephant Tusk. But I'm back home in AZ now and I have no idea when I will make it out there again. I'm glad the videos help.

    Have you ever considered Santiago Peak. I bet you have looked into it...not sure if landowners allow....just curious. How about Castellon in the Park?

    • @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer
      @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Davecat, I've only looked at it a little bit, but never much since it's on private land. There are four summits of Santiago registered on peakbagger.com. It looks like a cool mountain though, and it's one of the TX 2000ft. prominence peaks. I did Cerro Castellon about 6-7 years ago. It was a fun climb.

    3220 is such a gnarly-looking peak, kind of wished the summit was harder! I want to run from 3656 to kit in the future. If you remember, how did that ridge look between them?

    • @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer
      @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Will, it does look pretty neat, but yes, it was pretty easy. I thought it might be tougher but when I got closer I saw it wasn't that steep. I didn't see the ridge from the summit of 3656, but I think I remember it looked fine from 3220. I think you'll drop only around 300-350 ft. at the most.

      I just watched again, and it looks like it may be steeper and tougher closer to Kit, but it's hard to say. I'm sure it's doable though.

    My brother and I hiked the West Baldy trail over Memorial Day weekend and couldn’t reach the summit due to snow drifts about 5ft tall. There was still about 3-4 ft of snow where at that sign where the West and East badly trail connect. We should have brought our snow spikes… Going to try again later in the summer haha.

      Hi Ryan, that's crazy there was still that much snow up there a the end of May. I wonder if that's unusual or typical? Either way, hopefully you can make it back there and get the summit in the summer. I've been turned around on at least one peak due to snow.

      @@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer I asked a friend who has hiked Baldy many times over the years and he said it’s common for snow to stick around at the top until mid June. Crazy!
