I know this is an old post But I had the power steering go a few times. I took the side cover off and took the clip out of the multi plug for the power steering. Now feel if there is any play in the plug/socket. Mine was, so I pulled the plug until it felt tight, then taped it in that position. That was about four years ago, so far so good.
Strangely enough, the answer is to pull over, turn off the engine and restart, all is then fine. I am on my second Meriva and no problems yet. My first Meriva used to fail, but talking to my local garage turning off resets the electrics. I know it's a pain, but the Meriva normally responds. My present Meriva is nearly ten years old with 26.000 on the clock. I call it Merv, and he is responsive, comfortable, and a pleasure to drive. I am disabled, so getting in and out is so much easier than a normal saloon from which I didn't get out but fell out. Meriva's are good cars, just be advised to overcome any short-comings.
I must say I am very impressed with Vauxhall. We bought our Meriva new in 2006 and had no problems with it for 8 years. Late in 2014 we got our first taste of this EPS issue and thought that we had no chance of getting Vauxhall to repair the car due to the car's age. This issue was also very intermittent, in fact in about 4 months it may have happened 5 or 6 times. I called Vauxhall customer care on the 12th Jan for the first time. They straight away and without hesitation booked the car into my local Vauxhall dealership (Go Vauxhall in Crawley) at my convenience on the Friday. Car was dropped off at 9am, the dealership called me at about 9:30am and said that they had run their diagnostics tests and that this was the known EPS issue. By 2pm they phoned and told me to collect the car, it was all sorted. Apparently the repairs cost £900.00 but the total cost to myself was £0.00, all taken care of by Vauxhall. Well done Vauxhall, I will definitely return as a customer :)
Fred Harris hi dude. I got same problem with eps light and power steering. Can u tell me where u took yours too? And how u went about getting it sorted please. ? Much thanx
I just brought an o3 mervira , wish I'd known about this before I bought it .had it less than a week and it's gone 6 times in total now 4 of which were on the motorway . considering I've only driven it 4 hours in total.vauxhall have agreed to pay for the diagnostics if it's the fault mentioned.currently won't drive the car as I couldn't relax and stomach was in knots when I did .do feel like I've bought myself a impending death trap .even if vauxhall fix the problem seems it comes back , think I'd be too nervous to drive this car especially with my son in the car .
I still have my Vauxhall Mariva since new from 2007, I’ve learnt to live with the power steering going out on me it’s part of the car now and it’s sad how vauxhall never recalled the car ... my car is old now practically worthless however I couldn’t sell my car in good conscience because I would always worry that someone would have an accident with it and i’m not comfortable selling it... I Will wait a few more years then scrap it ...
Same here. How many times does this happen to you? Mine goes once every 7wks at moment. Burst tyre due steering going today. Vauxhall wants to charge me £1200 to get this fixed which I can't afford.
Try to recalibrate it. Turn on ignition. Turn steering wheel fully one way then fully the other way while stationary . Then return it to wheels face forward. Can do it a couple of times
Mine went on my 2013 registered Meriva B a few months ago. Electric power steering system repaired under warranty. Thankfully the steering didn't lock up when I was on the motorway, but when I was close to home. Ended up having to get car taken to dealer on the back of a recovery truck to get the warranty fix done. Hopefully that it is fixed for good, as the car is just over 3 years old, under 36,000 miles and shouldn't have such a failure!
My Meriva is 5 years old, & has averaged 4000miles a year.Vauxhall help line advised me to get it tested at my local main dealer for a diagnostic test, which cost me £100. I was told, after testing, that I would require a new steering column & motor at an estimated cost of £2000. After calling Vauxhall helpline again to let them know the outcome, they said they couldn't help, & it was all down to me to pay, as the car was out of warranty, & refused to admit it was an on going problem with so many Meriva's. I'm very disappointed in Vauxhall's lack of response & It seem's that it will take somebody to have a nasty accident, or, god forbid, a fatality, before they will maybe then act!!!!!!!!!! I would ask everybody with a Meriva, who has faulty power steering, to pressure Vauxhall into action to remedy these serious concerns before its too late.
Mine is a 2003 Meriva and the problem got so frequent I contacted the local dealer who replaced the whole steering column which was value at £1750 from memory. Amazing! ... but...1 and a half years later, the power steering dies completely. Doesn't come back on after an engine restart. Recovery guy say there's no readout at all on his computer so it suggests there's no functioning steering electronics. This time they say they won't help, even though the issue is with the parts they fitted last year due to this issue which effects all meriva's. Currently in a dispute with them to find out what the difference is between last year and this year with this steering issue.
We never so much had any power steering issues with our 2006 meriva 1.4 life it was mainly engine/ECU related issues, it would sometime pull to the right or left quite a bit but other than that, was just engine management light coming on and engine losing power ect! Plus it wasn't exactly looked after which has a huge effect on how a car behaves!
06 Meriva with the same problem :-( I rang today and Vauxhall said it will be £55 for the initial investigation. I mentioned I'd seen online that it was a known fault, I was then told "I will contact head office and see if they will reduce the cost of the fix as well as the cost of the initial investigation" the FIX, sounds to me like he doesnt need to do the initial investigation lol
Had a case open with vauxhall with this problem after 3 months there refusing to fix it after saying there's not 1 single case found on the vauxhall system with any meriva with this fault
Few people claim that vauhxall fixed theirs for free but thats a lie. Mine just did it for a first time today. I will sell it cheap before it becomes worse and cost s lifes
I'm in Italy with an Opel Meriva - same car - same problem. My wife is 73 and nearly crashed on the motorway last week because of this, she didn't have the strength to handle the car after it had locked. Incredible nobody's been killed because of this so far, or have they?
I have a 2007 meriva life . I thought it was going to take my life I kid you not. I took the car to main dealer and phoned vauxall. in the end I got vauxall to change the steering colomm
I have a 2010 Meriva. It has only done 18000 miles and the power steering pump has gone. It is going to cost me about £1000. Quite a shock for a car with such low mileage. Has anyone on here had or heard of any similar pump problems?
Just got one of these things cost me 450 took it for a drive and the steering locked up i know it was only 450 but that 450 out my pocket that could of gone on a better car never buying a vauxhall again.
happend to me 1.4 meriva life ..56 plate ..switched engine of ..back on was ok ..read online its most common with cold wather ...and yea its happend 3 times on me ...in bad weather
i bought a 2007 vauxhall meriva 4 weeks ago and the power steering has gone 10 times and i am scared of driving this car it is unsafe and it can cause an accidend and i am not putting my life or my kids life in danger vosa need to make this problem part of the mot vosa do your job and get this problem sorted out
I have this problem and it is seriously dangerous....I nearly crashed today and went straight up a kerb side as the wheel was ripped out of my hand. arggggggggg
This problem started with my mariva, i contacted vauxhall. They paid for a new steering column to be fitted. I collected my car and the problem was much worse, I now loose the power steering everytime I put the lights on ??? I now have to pay for it fixing at my own expense. They say it will take a long time to find out what is wrong as no errors come up on their machine, sounds expensive to me.
how ever 900 miles later it went again but worse. I took it back £100 diagnostic they said it needs more investigation they need £100 more for further testing. a whole week has gone past after I contacted vauxall they decided they would pay for more testing. they told me I will have to pay £1000 for the repair £200 for the testing and nearly£300 labour. and it took 1 week to find the fault codes. I cannot make any sense of it at all.
leonard bailey what the hell! Didn't the manufacturer reimburse you. I have meriva 2008 auto and my eps light has stated to come on with electronic power steering failure. My mechanic has told me to just change the the whole of it by picking one up from the scrap yard. I diidnt know it was a common fault till I checked it out on TH-cam and seen this post. You got any advice? Will appreciate it.
well my 06 plate meriva has started doing this every time I drive it anywhere its downright dangerous took it to the Vauxhall dealer to try and get it fixed they informed me "the fault code isn't showing" so refused to put it right called the number in the vid to be told "if the fault is there or not is irrelevant if the fault code doesn't show up I have to pay to get it fixed" never touch Vauxhall car there customer service is apauling
vauxhall have said they won't fix my 07 plate unless it was under 12 months old and under 10kmiles. I had a corsa previously spent 100£s because of their silly exhaust system, now they have poorly manufactured the steering on the meriva and I have Jo car. disgusted with vosa.
FUCK I JUST HAD THAT A FEW DAYS AGO It worked again after I restarted the car, and I thought this was a one time thing. But now I know that I may need an expensive repair, which REALLY sucks.
I am currently taking Vauxhall through small claims court for a repair bill that they refused to contribute to. they claim the car was out of warranty, i claim that they are fitting unsafe, substandard parts...we will let the judge decide
Last year my daughters steering went(08 corsa D)it starts by the steering going rock hard whilst driving then it comes back. she very nearly drove into a bus with the car full of kids. when i went to evans alshaws in leeds they denied all knowledge of the problem on this model. that was until i overheard a heated discussion by the lady on the next table with the exact same problem on the exact same car. then the mechanic told me there fixing three a week! i threatened them with the local newspaper and the back tracked and repaired the car in full. the car was just out of warranty. pm me if you need any more info. THIS STEERING FAILURE DOES NOT ONLY EFFECT MERIVA'S. THE EXACT SAME PART IS IN QUITE A FEW CORSA D'S.
ive had my meriva for 8 years the problem has got progressively worse. I cannot drive it at all now and have had to get another car. I cannot believe all this time i have been driving my son arround and putting him at risk. It is disgusting that they were not recalled and that someones life hasnt been taken. I shall be ringing tomorrow.

you where lucky I have had 6 vauxhalls never again
@@lincolntaylor9863 yes vauxhall very bad junk. Also my friends has just gone bad he also won't get another.
Happy to say that Vauxhall, have now corrected this steering problem, & reimbursed my fee for diagnostic test. Now very happy with outcome.
Fred Harris hi dude. I got same problem with eps light and power steering. Can u tell me where u took yours too? And how u went about getting it sorted please. ? Much thanx
Same here! 10th of January 2019! Meriva 2006 1.7

Same here. Mine failed today. It's a disgrace that Vauxhall can wash their hands of all responsibility.
Yes a mates has just gone it went from steering to solid
I still have my Vauxhall Mariva since new from 2007, I’ve learnt to live with the power steering going out on me it’s part of the car now and it’s sad how vauxhall never recalled the car ...

Then I applaud you. I bought mine for £700 a week ago and the person I bought it from had no such qualms. Steering has gone twice so far 😢
Try to recalibrate it. Turn on ignition. Turn steering wheel fully one way then fully the other way while stationary . Then return it to wheels face forward. Can do it a couple of times
Recalibrate it. Turn on ignition but not engine. turn the steering wheel fully one way then fully the other direction. That's how you recalibrate it

Fred Harris that's poor engineering
I really thought my expencive headphones are gone

Beverley Darby :O
Same happened to me today had to stop in the middle of the road will call the vauxhall dealer tomorrow not happy atol
@subzerowarrior1 This is not the case with the Meriva. The steering gets REALLY stiff, not like in a car without power steering!
Why can't they tell us what causes the problem instead of going into the politics of the matter !
I have 2010 vaxhall Meriva 89000 miles have major problem ECU and power steering only had the car 7 months 1400cc not happy man
Does yours cause the lights to flickers, including dash lights
i was looking to buy a meriva vxr aswell.. i'll have to give that one a swerve
ours went today, these are death traps
Vauxhall dealerships should offer free steroids for the mums that have this problem.
Had a case open with vauxhall with this problem after 3 months there refusing to fix it after saying there's not 1 single case found on the vauxhall system with any meriva with this fault

leonard bailey hi I have same problem with my car. Did they charge u anything and which Vauxhall dealer did your job??

they know there's a fault
FUCK I JUST HAD THAT A FEW DAYS AGO
It worked again after I restarted the car, and I thought this was a one time thing. But now I know that I may need an expensive repair, which REALLY sucks.
Just put camera and let someone steal it 😅 Then post his crash on youtube and profit. Even if he doesn't crash he will run away from the car 😂

THIS STEERING FAILURE DOES NOT ONLY EFFECT MERIVA'S.
THE EXACT SAME PART IS IN QUITE A FEW CORSA D'S.
If you think that's scary try it randomly happening with 120 km while overtaking 😄
My car also same problem Germany 🇩🇪
Mine went today 2nd of Jan 2019, I wonder if that phone number still works? :-(
24 April 2019 Don't know about the number but bought one for my lad and encountered the fault very quickly!
Mine just started doing it. Very dangerous problem. Did you guys found any fix?
my steering is pulling to right tracking ok
May have been in a accident mate
I have this problem on 2005 Meriva
Pump the front tyres upto 85 psi
ive had my meriva for 8 years the problem has got progressively worse. I cannot drive it at all now and have had to get another car. So it'll be some other suckers problem! They might be killed, nice one!
121 likes it means all 121 have or had Vauxhall meriva and same problem.
This video needs recalling it's constantly skipping and hard to watch.
don't trust my local vauxhall dealer find faults
that are not there
Looks like the same fault a Fiat Punto gets.
Vauxhall and VOSA should really do something about it
Roids lol
fill the dahm power stearing fluid
The clue is in the "electric power steering column" part.
luka rašeta it's an electronic power steering you plonker 😂😂
Pratt! It doesn’t have steering fluid!
Sally Hopkins lol yer right!
