Why David Warner didn't temper the ball himself of course he would have knowed that if Bancroft will be caught he will tell the whole truth why did Warner wanted Bancroft to ban with him
As an England cricket fan I wonder if it happened in the 2017/18 ashes?? I will say that they made a mistake, they’ve been punished and I hope they’ve learned from it. They deserve a 2nd chance though. Everyone who makes a mistake does. He got back in the test team for the 2019 Ashes in England. That was a remarkable achievement. Unfortunately he didn’t have the best series and was dropped. I still think he’s one of the best opening batsmen available to Australia at the moment. Pucovski is probably the future opener if he can get his fitness sorted. I think Bancroft has had his time in the test team for now though.
3:07 he says using the sand paper is against the spirit of the game - Bullshit. This is against the law of the game, foreign object fullstop... Against the spirit of the game is sledging. This guy will do it again, no remorse. 4:05 "at the time i did not know it" again a lie, he tried to hide it from umpire for the same reason. Just a cheat who got caught.
He did not say he did not know it. He said he did not know any better because he wanted to fit in. That doesn't mean you forget. It just means you don't think about saying no
When you listen to them, you realize that they haven't done this before and this has actually affected them emotionally too. They're not professional liars. They are not even trying to defend themselves for what they did wrong. And they actually took responsibility and deeply thought about what they've done wrong. I truly respect Bancroft and Steve Smith. People make mistakes. All of us do. But not everyone learns from their mistakes. These guys have my respect and support! I hope they do very well going forward.
"At the time, did I know any better? No...." Total bullshit. Every child understands the ills of cheating, right after taking up their first competitive activity. This guy has no sense of honesty or sincerity. Claiming peer pressure and 'belonging' and 'being accepted' is the language of a serial criminal.
From my point of view, there is a lot in this interview which suggests his moral compass is still not quite right. He talks about wanting to front up and tell the truth to the umpires yet at the same time he was still lying about what he used. That lie was deliberate, it wasn't misspoken, it was considered and suggests that he hadn't learnt. I really don't understand his comments following Gily's question about lying about the tape. It just sounds like trying to detract from the question to query why people were focusing on what was used. If he is genuinely contrite then he would be fully honest about the lie and why he lied again. The shame about the whole thing is that I am not sure all the lessons have been learned. Captain Grumpy hit the nail on the head when he questioned the scope of the investigation and the findings. Unless the boys are fully upfront about the situation, we will never know, but I'm sorry to say this, but there is enough to suggest that this wasn't the first time and in fact that Cameron was involved in cheating in England before the saffa series.
It was the pressure on the team that made them do this, and many amazing players had gone through long-term consequences, which even affected them mentally, Players like Shahid Afridi and many more did it, but the punishment was normal not as hard as on these poor guys...
Also nice to see people who want to hide the fact that a nation's pride and honor was put on the line by the very people who were supposed to represent it with the utmost dignity and respect, willing to show the entire world that it is OK to cheat.
Get off your high horse. Everyone is guilty to some degree of behaving immorally, but if nobody was ever judged in order to be held accountable nobody would ever be punished. If, for example, a student is caught cheating on an exam and is consequently judged for his actions would it make sense for that student to argue that he should not be judged because those judging him are not without sin?
he should have got a maximum of 1 or 2 matches like faf du plessis who barely got any ban or like atherton or trescothick or shoaib akhtar etc .ball tampering is like diving for a penalty in football . no where near anything like doping or fixing that is why ICC give a maximum ban of couple of matches . idiots who don't know what it was thought it was as bad as that a gave an unprecedented 1 year ban .
I felt bad for this lad as Steve and David were the true master minds behind the scandal but put all the blame on this man. I hope he gets the fair treatment in his return as the dues have been paid.
He keeps saying fitting? Fitting where ??? Spirit of the game is important than winning. Sports is the only game that gives the opportunity to be honest.
Let’s be honest here before we point the finger strong evidence pointing towards Warner bullying him into it the Australian values were in the wrong place and had been for a while. Bancroft seems like a good bloke like he did double the community service hours he made a mistake he is not a criminal he is a human being who made a mistake
Fast forward to today, June 2023... and both Smith and Warner are playing for Australia. Smith is the test vice captain whereas Warner captains the Delhi Capitals IPL team. They both were part of Team Australia winning the World Test Championship this year... whereas Bancroft is nowhere to be seen. His hopes of playing for Australia again in any format almost non existent. Know when to say NO when your seniors ask you to do the wrong thing... because if and when you get caught, you will become the Fall Guy and you shall be Chewed Out! It will be a very lonely place to be in.
The arrogance and lack of remorse is disgusting. Pure narcissistic behavior. What a shame. Oh well we all know they're cheats. They'll never be able to escape that shame.
You're talking as if he was caught in match fixing. The fact is, what he has been found guilty of, others have been caught the same in much more serious cases. Best if you keep your views to yourself.
Not once have I blamed cam for this. If Dave wanted to cheat so badly he should've done it himself but to put the youngest guy on the team up to it knowing the fallout from this, speaks more about him and anyone else that was involved
He’s a grown up who should have had the balls to refuse to do what he did. However, he comes across very well here and his apology seems completely genuine. Good on him. The ‘leadership group’, however, should never be forgiven. Bunch of bullies
@@RuanAntunes7 warner should be but smith, he knew abt it but it wasnt completely his fault, he definitely should have never captianed austrealia again which he did after the ban, he was a terriblke leader and a captian during this incident
With no moral compass, some people don;t know the difference between right and wrong behaviour. Their only consideration is "can I benefit from it?" Newsflash to all young players trying to "fit in" - SCORE MORE RUNS!!! You could ask yourself "What would Jesus do?" but that is no longer fashionable.
By accepting wat he did, he has confessed, thereby management can always point out this particular video and not select him, 😢, smith and Warner escape because they are more valuable to the organisation. it's a typical corporate practice to fire an employee by coercing to give a self evaluation. Happens alot in corporate world. Shame on Gilchrist to be a part of this. But karma always hits on the face of those who conspire And grants success to those who work hard irrespective of all conspiracy. Bancroft will find success one way or the other. 😊
Some say it's Warner who kept in that shoes. Some say it is for team he did. But guys let us keep it simple. Whether you do it for game,or for team or for individual, you have brain and you decided to do it. You need pay for that. For God sake 🙏 don't ever sympathise for such incidents and people. They were supposed to ban for life time but they ran away from that. God is still generous to these liars and cheaters of the game. We got to know since we had seen this incident live in TV. There are many such incidents, where we haven't seen and so.no sympathy for such incidents. Who ever it might be.

Funny how the other two involved were from NSW and the main bowlers in the Australian team at that stage were all from NSW and NSW had been dominating shield cricket for a while, just saying the obvious on behalf of a impartial and objective friend. I can tell everyone here that this young man was placed in an impossible position, I'm a brit. I really feel for him. He was a victim. Had he been a 50 yr. old guy being asked to cheat for his team he would have said NO. The devils that dwell within our ranks always pray on the young because they don't have the moral strength to fight back. They haven't simply lived long enough to grow that extra tooth. Good times are coming my aussie brothers. We have moved into the age of Aquarius.
What you up to now, Cameron? I reckon this current Aussie team would love you. Don't forget to bring the 7000 grit with you mate. Alex will meet you at Heathrow.
I really do feel sorry for him. It’s all Dave Warner who put him in a really tough situation. Steve knew about it but he didn’t do anything about it and he is the captain! How long has this been going on for? Definitely Smith and Warner had to pay. Would’ve loved to see Warner banned for life.
Rupert Fox Gilchrist along with Rupert Fox Warne happily taking away the game away from those who cannot afford Rupert Fox Murdoch's pay tv. Kerry Packer the one man Australia's cricketers should be deeply indebted to is rolling in his grave because of the actions of cricketers like Rupert Fox Gilchrist.
Fair enough you make a mistake but to say you didn't know any better. Every junior cricket player knows using anything to rough up one side of the ball is wrong. What a massive cop-out to say that. Bancroft should of just shut up for his 1 year ban.
What nonsense. Check the batting averages of smith and Warner for 5 series before India's tour of Australia. They both averaged below 40. India would've beaten them regardless.
Smiths Chips Overall, yes. But his average in the last year has been poor. Below 30. So to say that him playing would've meant Australia winning is a stretch.
What a disgrace. Tampers with the cricket ball then has the audacity to smile in an interview discussing how he was told to do it and he didn't know better
Why he’s not telling who asked him to do this?? Surly he should tell the whole world the names of peoples who asked him to do that.. can’t be just David Warner surely smith and Lehman were involved too
So basically he's saying to feel accepted in an Australian test team you have to be willing to cheat. Then he says he knows no better. Really Cameron. I'm pretty sure you knew from childhood that cheating is dismissive of integrity. And then letting Warner and Smith continue with their careers for me I lost my respect for Australian cricket somewhat.
Smith and warner combinedly ruined Bancroft's career...those guys are playing happily for australia now but cameron is placed as x factor player for perth now.... summary is smith and warner are the culprits

Why David Warner didn't temper the ball himself of course he would have knowed that if Bancroft will be caught he will tell the whole truth why did Warner wanted Bancroft to ban with him
Hunza Nizam they like to conceal things. warner wanted a junior to do it, but obviously he didn’t think he will get caught .
Warner has done much worse stuff before keep in mind this kid was in his 8th test match
He was new in the team I reckon smith and warner bullied him into it because he was new
Especially Warner I reckon.
Not Smith just Warner
@@petersergeant2840 agreed
Warner.....Smith took responsibility for all the actions
@@petersergeant2840Smith is as involved and guilty as Warner in this scandal.
It’s not fair that he got picked on by the 2 senior players. That forced him to do it
but he had a choice! And he made the wrong one...how stupid
@@optoms1178 If he chose not to he may have been left out of the team for "letting the team down"
Watching this years later, it was so obvious theyve been doing this for years.
I’ve thought that since the beginning. There’s no way that the match they got caught also just so happened to the first time they did it.
Fuck off🖕
He did not say he did not know it. He said he did not know any better because he wanted to fit in. That doesn't mean you forget. It just means you don't think about saying no
Biju Nair ageee, except what the future holds or what is his future actions will be , is not fair for others to judge.
Not an ounce of pity, imagine how many other teams have been affected by this "Australian ball tampering" it takes away the essence of the game.
Shut up boet
When you listen to them, you realize that they haven't done this before and this has actually affected them emotionally too. They're not professional liars. They are not even trying to defend themselves for what they did wrong. And they actually took responsibility and deeply thought about what they've done wrong. I truly respect Bancroft and Steve Smith. People make mistakes. All of us do. But not everyone learns from their mistakes. These guys have my respect and support! I hope they do very well going forward.
Thanks Mrs. Smith
"At the time, did I know any better? No...."
Total bullshit. Every child understands the ills of cheating, right after taking up their first competitive activity. This guy has no sense of honesty or sincerity. Claiming peer pressure and 'belonging' and 'being accepted' is the language of a serial criminal.
Fantastic interview
You have to feel sorry for them with what the press was saying. But what they did was appalling
i don't understand why when he owned up first he said that no-one had forced but in this he says it was warners fault
And now Warner's doing video's on TIK TOK to show us how much of a changed man he is. What a tool.
It was the pressure on the team that made them do this, and many amazing players had gone through long-term consequences, which even affected them mentally, Players like Shahid Afridi and many more did it, but the punishment was normal not as hard as on these poor guys...
So glad to see sinless people commenting and judging on other's mistake 😌 in this video comment section
@Rahul 007 umm okkk
Maybe i am an idiot, but is there anything like a wilful mistake?
he should have got a maximum of 1 or 2 matches like faf du plessis who barely got any ban or like atherton or trescothick or shoaib akhtar etc .ball tampering is like diving for a penalty in football . no where near anything like doping or fixing that is why ICC give a maximum ban of couple of matches . idiots who don't know what it was thought it was as bad as that a gave an unprecedented 1 year ban .
Awesome Gilly❤😊
The scent of a woman - watch this movie, Bancroft. It talks about integrity at the cost of anything.
Ump to Smith “You’re out of order!”
9 months goes quickly for you, because you were new to the international cricket and not that famous like Smith and Warner .
Bruh
No hard feelings towards Cam. Being put in that position by your leaders within the team is unforgivable
I felt bad for this lad as
Steve and David were the true master minds behind the scandal but put all the blame on this man.
I hope he gets the fair treatment in his return as the dues have been paid.
He could of said no to doing the act
Geez I don’t think of Cameron as a bad guy

Picture of smugness. Doesn't even care or show any remorse. How can the interviewer say he has show remorse??? WHF?
Shares in Homebase rocketed after this scandal. All purchases made by Aussies funny enough.
Agreed. They(Smith & Warner) should’ve received lifetime bans from the sport for doing something so disgraceful
By accepting wat he did, he has confessed, thereby management can always point out this particular video and not select him,
😢, smith and Warner escape because they are more valuable to the organisation.
it's a typical corporate practice to fire an employee by coercing to give a self evaluation.
Happens alot in corporate world.
Shame on Gilchrist to be a part of this.
But karma always hits on the face of those who conspire
And grants success to those who work hard irrespective of all conspiracy.
When a senior player & captain puts pressure on you- damn if u do , damn if u don’t . I feel for this guy . This is not much different than M.Amir bowling that no-ball.

Bulletman7 lmao
Gilchrist played 95 tests for Australia, not 74, who on earth was in charge of that editing.
96 Tests actually lol
Funny how the other two involved were from NSW and the main bowlers in the Australian team at that stage were all from NSW and NSW had been dominating shield cricket for a while, just saying the obvious on behalf of a impartial and objective friend. Bancroft was not the from the NSW clique, so he was expendable.
There is a reason that a India hating Naser Hussain still does a "Spirit of Cricket" documentary in India and not in Australia.
Yeah i feel for the guy,and i'm south african, bcoz all this will haunt him his whole life

Know all about the incident, but 1st time seeing this.
Cameron knew what he did was wrong, was cheating, saying "I didn't know any better" is BS! The blame game is BS!
Davey and Steve are also to blame, for suggesting it.
All 3 Cheated, no question, no excuses. They All knew it was cheating.
They All deserved their punishment. They deserved the Aussie public to be Pissed off at them for this Un-Australian act!
But, they paid the price, the world moves on. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance.
I understand about trying to fit in, but please don't say you didn't know any better. You know it is wrong to temper with the ball, so please don't sa you didn't know any better.
Smith and Warner got off lightly. No matter how well they played, the selfishness displayed in this incident is how they will be remembered.
What's a Bancroft?
Still known as a cheater and the whole Australian team
Warner was a huge coward, he wouldn’t do it himself, got a young lad to do it.
All Indian Fans be grateful to this man. If Smith and Warner were in the Border-Gavaskar trophy we all know what was going to unfold.
Australia is going to win if Smith Warner there
What nonsense. Check the batting averages of smith and Warner for 5 series before India's tour of Australia. They both averaged below 40. India would've beaten them regardless.
@TJ Devil dosen’t Smith average in the 60’s?
Smiths Chips Overall, yes. But his average in the last year has been poor. Below 30. So to say that him playing would've meant Australia winning is a stretch.
@TJ Devil are we talking 2017 or 2018
Warner never stood up like this young bloke. What a turd

Best wishes for his career further.
