Ms. Lori I’m 66 years old and you just took me back to sitting on a stool and watching my granny. Her fried pie of choice was always apricot. So you know it’s my favorite ❤️
Good evening Sister Lori, Glad to see you on today. I learned how to make fried pies from an Amish/Mennonite lady and they got so popular, that they asked if id make them at our very Own Bakercreek Pioneer Village here in Mansfield MO. They're an amazing treat but so many people do not understand the labor and love that goes into cooking and baking and canning from scratch...this world is so into the INSTANT gratification and microwave age that they dont hardly appreciate the time and love and thought that goes into living this way. Its not just a frozen GMO fruit pie being thrown into an oven. And that Homemade Spaghetti sauce grandma made and canned came straight from her garden. 200 quarts a year. Sometime when i go to garage sales or thrift stores which i love 😁 and i see linen lollies or gorgeous afghans and such, it just breaks my heart. They just donated an Heirloom that great grandma made probably during a cold winter. Thank you for always being willing to teach and encourage sister. You are a our TH-cam PROVERBS 31- TITUS 2 WOMAN.❤️ These things are a labor of LOVE
This is my favorite fried pie and my mom was the Queen of the kitchen when she made these for her family💗 She loved cooking for her family and seeing them enjoy whatever it was she made. Her mother made apple fried pies and that’s what she always took to dinner on the ground at her church. If you’ve never eaten a homemade fried pie, you don’t know what you’re missing ‼️. Thank you Ms Laurie for bringing so many good things to life💗.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown I know y'all say a prayer for everyone out here, but if you don't mind I'd like to ask for special prayers for my 81 year old mother. She's been going down hill the last 3 years. I'm scared that she's in the early stages of dementia or alzheimer's. I'm trying very hard to take care of her by myself it's not easy and sometimes I sit in my room at night and cry because I never thought I'd see her go through this. I appreciate you and I hope y'all are doing well and safe thanks so much for being here for us all.
@@WhippoorwillHoller thank y'all for responding, I didn't think you would so soon after I had posted. We have roku and she loves to say let's see what Mrs. Lori is doing today. It means a lot to both of us the time, love, and effort y'all put into the videos you do. Thank you both and God bless you.
Gosh! That brings back memories. I am 79 yo and my mother made those as often as she could get the dried fruit. I have made them occasionally but never as good as hers, God rest her soul. Bless you Mrs Lori and Mr Brown
Those look delicious. My Bohemian grandmother made apricot kolaches that were out of this world. I sure miss her & all her good cooking. Thanks for taking your time out of the day to come into our homes & show us what you are cooking. Hugs!
Good ole memories is right! I remember my Daddy putting figs from our fig trees on tarps on our roof and putting window screening over the top and drying boatloads of figs which Mamma cooked all year long in delicious, jams, hand pies, oat squares, etc.
Ms Lori, I love it when you show us the simple food from the "good ol days". I've been trying your recipes and every single time they turn out delicious! Thank you and can't wait to see more old fashioned cooking!
Ms.Lori, as always not only to make amazing food but you educate as well! Our family loves your channel and your food! God bless you and Mr. Brown and y’all’s family! ❤✝️
I remember the stories of my great-grandma fried pie's and I remember her massive garden. She always had something to trade with the "tinker" when he came by.😊 God Bless Y'all 🙏🙏
My mother and grandmother always left the chicken on the bone in chicken and dumplings. Most of the family actually like the dumplings more than the chicken. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'm going to make these with my apples I dehydrated. I think if people knew how easy it is to dehydrate foods they would try it.
This one brings back a lot of sweet memories. My Mama left her chicken on the bone for chicken and rice cooked together. Looking back, I don't remember anyone complaining about their greasy hands. Salt and pepper were her only seasonings and I would love to have some tonight for supper. Try your next batch of fried with crushed pineapple 🍍 Big hugs! ✌️💖🙏🇺🇲🇮🇱✝️
Oh gosh you just reminded me of the best chicken and rice I ever had..my parents were from Colorado and never ate rice. While visiting friends in N.C., they wrung that chickens neck right there and cooked it all day outside then put the rice in. They were tobacco farmers. As you said, just salt and pepper. My sis and I have both tried for years to get it right!! At 61 I did it at last! I put that bird on the stove and forgot about it til dinner time lol. That was the trick but I think cooking it over a fire outside might have made it better!!!
@@kimmy6639its so nice to read the times out of the life of others and just because of some food. Ms Lori is good in bringing back memories and feelings from childhood. The stories are as good as the cooking. I today always think of my granny when I plant and harvest potato. Or when canning.. remembering how she boiled her white wash on the woodstove in the same big pot that the canning was done. Hope yall are safe with the weather comming. ❤
We never made fried pies, but I sure remember my mom making baked hand pies and of course filled cookies. Apricot was always both her and my favorite!❤
Mrs Lori I don't remember either of my grandmother's making fried pies. My maternal grandmother passed when I was only 6. My paternal grandmother didn't cook fried pies, but I remember my Father's oldest sister making fried apple pies, yum!! Love your channel and your recipes. Bless you and Mr Brown ❤
This makes me think so much of my mother-in-law. She used to make prune fried pies. I never ate prunes before, but she could sweeten them up and make them into fried pies and we would almost fight over them. If she mentioned she made them, we would come right over lol. I wish so much I had her recipe for fixing them.
They look delicious! In The County I was born, we make them round, smaller and traditionally the filling is ground beef, chicken and cheese. We call these, pastelitos=little pies
Ohhh... Hello !!! I’m smiling now. Just saw that you had a new show up for viewing. Thank you for coming for a visit today; my whole day’s better for it.
i am so glad you talked about drying meats and fruits ect. my grandma dried all that my grandpa made her special drying racks for outside and she was able to keep fly's ect off her stuff. and people today think dried food is no good compared to freeze dried which just is not true. i still dry a lot of food.
I grew up with the bones left in the chicken and dumplings and still do it today! Pies aren't something I'm good at though lol. I keep trying. Apricots are one of my favorite fruits!
Miss Lori, I just wanted to tell you how much my son loves your recipes. You have a very good reputation as a great cook here in this Nova Scotia, Canada home!😊
Your video reminds me so much of my grandmother. She used to dry her fruit on a piece of tin which she laid on top of the woodpile out in full sunshine. She made many varieties of fried pies which were always delicious! 😋
Oh Lori, my Momma made the best chicken and dumplings. She would boil a whole chicken and never took the meat off the bones. I never knew it wasn't supposed to be that way. Lol until my sister in law said something about it one day and it hurt my feelings that she was putting Mom's dumplings down but she was from up North and I thought it was just something done more up North. Lol So to hear you talk about Gladys and her chicken legs was such a good story. Thanks for sharing. The fried pies look wonderful... God is Good..
Oh pie! Such memories. My Mother made the worst pie crust and biscuits, I think she used the same recipe for both! I didn’t know how bad it was until I tasted a pie at my friends house and it was so good. Also, we had been married about 3 months when I came home from work and my husband told me volunteered that a would make 2 pies for the churches mens club dinner the next night. I had never baked a pie because I had an aversion to baking. I ended up with two pretty sad apple pies. And my husband never volunteered me for anything again!
Not to do with pie but a story of my mother's, that l think will make you laugh as, it is related to cooking and husbands. As a newly wed, mum wanted to impress my dad with her prowess in the kitchen and came across a recipe for a "three minute sponge" that she thought looked easy enough but, misread the recipe and thought she had to BAKE it for three minutes not BEAT it for three minutes. Obviously it was a complete failure. Mum was so worried that my father would think she was a terrible cook that she buried it in the garden. By the time l came along she was definitely a very good cook and not only did my father never know about it but, she only told me about ten years after he died. 😊
My beautiful mother made Apricot Fried Pies too. I’m so sad that I didn’t learn more about them from her. If we were closer we could practice together. ♥️🙏
My granny used to make these and I would help sometimes as a child. I've tried to make them like she did now but not even close. I'm going to try these. My great grandma made the best chicken n dumplings and she used chicken legs with the bone still in too. Thank you for the recipe and memories!
Lori, a few years ago I went to visit my cousin in Weatherford, Tx and on our way to Tuesday Morning we passed a BBQ place and she said that place has the best fried pies, so I said lets get some on the way home, so we did. We are sitting around eating our pies, not talking, but maybe moaning with delight at how good they are, when we were done, I said don’t think there was even one apricot in my pie, cousin says I think I had part of one, then we both just roared with laughter because we neither one cared that there was no apricot because the “goo” was so good! Her daughter lucked out though, she ordered an apple one and it had plenty of apples. 😂 I might make some fried pies for Easter. Grands are so picky that we don’t even have traditional meals at holidays anymore. I loved making a crown pork roast with stuffing in the center, mashed potatoes, peas or green beans, reception salad, hot rolls, but daughter in law told me this past Sunday that we may as well have sandwiches. 😢 Thanks for all of your videos, your sweet voice is so comforting Lori.
You are such a good teacher Lori. Your helping pass down a delicious treat of the pass. I can still remember my Grandmother making apricot fried pies. Always my favorite. I never had her recipe but her apricot filling looked just like yours. Thank you for sharing.❤️
Ms. Lori, I’m so glad you did this video! When I was a kid, this was about the only fried pie flavor that was heard of around here and it was delicious! Thanks for taking us back ❤️
My mom had window screens that she put on top of our well house! She always had dried fruit! Later she got a dehydrator! Oh, the smells in our house! Thanks for bringing back sweet memories! May God bless!
They look delicious!! I make apple ones most times. I want to do some custard ones soon. I enjoyed this one so much...I like working with dough like this it relaxes me too, and my family loves the results! I have some starter going in my kitchen and it's doing great,I'm going to make some Amish friendship bread...haven't had any in several years...I'll freeze my other cups, don't have a baking friend anymore. I save electric at my house, too,I started gathering kerosene lamps years ago I have about eight or ten,I use liquid paraffin in mine,it doesn't smoke and smell bad like kerosene. We had a storm recently and the electric was off most of the evening, they came in handy...I keep candles ,too. I know people have told you before but it's a comfort to have people like you talking about these things. Bless you both...we're all in this boat together, there won't be another "Ark" but we can still be together ,till the Lord comes.💞💞🤗🤗🙏🙏
Oh my goodness you have know idea how many fried pies I have made in the last six months since I found your pie crust recipe. My 82 year old Father in law knew I was cooking them and was so sick he wasn't eating anything and wanted so.e raisin fried pies and he wanted me to make him some so me being a country girl I was on it. He finally started eating again. I made so many of these because they reminded him of his younger days. He said to tell you thank you you have brought him back to the days of him going to the country store and snatching up a pie or two. Thankfully he is eating again and feeling well. Just want to say thank you for all you do
I had to replay the intro several times. I LOVE the hymn Leaning on The Everlasting Arms. Oh and how I do! God is our hope. I remember my grandma putting fruit on top of her seigler oil furnace. She put a tea cloth on top of the furnace and spread out her fruits to dry. You talk about good fruit pies, they were delicious! Precious memories. God bless you and Mr. Brown and your family.
You know, I was thinking while I was watching you making these pies how much I remember eating my grandmothers dried fruit pies. She used to make many different styles as well and made everything from scratch, and she was from Kentucky, but very similar on how things are made. Really enjoyed watching you do that brought back a little bit of my grandmother she’s gone now she’s off to heaven, but you bring a little bit of laughter in a little twinkle in my eye.
I grew up in a summer beach cabin with only kerosene lanterns. We had small wall hung lanterns next to our beds and throughout and hanging shaded lanterns over tables. The glow of the light was beautiful. I was in charge of washing the glass chimneys daily and my brothers had to fill the vessels with kerosene. They always smelled so good. I can't wait to see your lanterns. Enjoy
Absolutely love watching your channel.❤ We live in southwest Mo. have 3 acres . We have lived here since 1980. ( that’s when we got married. ❤) We have raised 3 children, now have been blessed with 9 grandblessings. God is oh so good ! My husband is going to be 65 and me 63 in July. We have raised beds, taters, onions, radishes, and peas growing in them. We have 60 feet of thornless blackberries ( love those big , juicy berries, )and make lots of jelly for our family and as gifts to folks in our church. I love to make jelly, ❤.I put several quarts away and end up making more jelly in the winter. Please keep sharing your videos. I just found ya a couple months ago so I have many videos to catch up on. ❤
My favorite fried pies are apricot. My MIL used to make them for us when my late husband and I were young married couple...she spoiled us rotten, I'll tell you. Thanks for the delicious memory. Have a Blessed day.
Apricot fried pies are my favorite. My Grandma, great Aunt and my Mom always made them when I was growing up. My mom still makes them for my birthday. Thanks for the memories. Also it's a small world. My Dad is from Biggers. My grandma lived there her whole life.
Oh, what a great recipe! I’m going to dehydrate apricots this year and make that recipe. I hope the kerosene lamps work. We have skylights, too, but when it’s raining or dark outside, there’s not a whole lot of natural light. God Bless you, and thanks for another beautiful recipe and story.
God Bless you, Miss Lori & Mr. Brown. In all the worries and panic of prepping from others, it is always a joyful relief to sit with you two and learn how to make wonderful foods. Prepping with peace is your style and I am always smiling during and at the end of all of your videos. And in the end I am always smarter, wiser, and perhaps a little heavier.
My daddy was from W Virginia and had to drop out of school in 8th grade to work the coal mines to help financially for his large family. They were from a very poor family. He shared with me how my Grandma Cora Bea would make delicious fried pies for him to take to work. Beautiful memories of fried pies! Thank you for sharing your recipe Ms Lorie! Greetings from Michigan.
I love apricot fried pies , .my momma always made these from dried apricots .I miss them I make them at times but my moms was althea best sometimes she made short cuts and rolled out biscuits in a can and made them too that way but mostly home made dough thanks for the wonderful memories my mom has been gone 12 years now ❤️
My granny made these when I was a little girl. Thanks for bringing some great memories back. ❤ I think il get some apricots and make me some. God bless. Those look delicious.
Ms Lori, my mouth is watering. I was raised in California on a 20 acre apricot ranch that my grandparents owned. My all time favorite. I have some home canned apricots in my pantry. Yummmm
Ms Lori, thank you for your Apricot Pie recpie❤️❤️ I just relived my memories of making apricot pies with my mother. dried apricot filling, sweet and tart, the best! A blast from the past! ❤️❤️❤️
If I had to name one of my favorite things, it would be fried apricot pies. Thank you for this video, your recipe and a lifetime of loving memories brought back.. I will be 77 in a few days, My MIL had the biggest apricot tree I've ever seen. She taught me how to make apricot fried pies when I was 18 yrs, old and married to her son. She would load up grocery bags with the apricots, She would make a batch and store them in a shoe box to gift them to her son for his birthday.
I do love apricot and fried pies but never made that type. And you said the magic words coconut cream!! My favorite kind of pie! I never thought to make that kind of hand pie. And I thought I heard it raining there. Hope y'all are doing well have a blessed week!💖🌻🌅🌷
Hi ms Lori. …I’ve had just about every flavor of hand pie there is so this is going to be a treat to make a new flavor 👍. Thank you so much … love love love your channel. You and Mr Brown are refreshing to watch .. reminds me of childhood memories but still going on now 😊
I love fried pies. Cherry filled is my favorite. Chocolate is also very good. Fried pies are a big thing in my area of Oklahoma. There's a town about 2 hours away from us that has a restaurant that makes homemade fried pies. My middle son went with a group he was in to a weekend thing and they got to stop by there to eat at that restaurant. He got a couple of their fried pies and brought them home. Everyone got to taste them and they were delicious! Their fried pies is what put their restaurant on the map for them. So very delicious!
Never heard of fried pies up north here. But apricot filling was always a favorite growing up in pastries and cookies when my grandmother baked. We baked pies in the oven and they were delicious.
My Mama, Grandmaw, and Great Grandmaw made the best Fried Pies I ever eat in my life! They made their crust just like you did. They always used their hands for everything. If they were cooking, their hands were in it. That's what I used to do. It was the only way I ever knew how to cook. Brought back many memories! Lord knows I miss my Mama and Grandmaws! Nothing like Fried Pies here in N Ga mtns... God Bless 🙏🙏❤❤
I use my hands all the time when I cook, I just think it’s the way you should put you’re heart into the food you make, I’m going to try this recipe, sounds yummy🥰
When I have any left over pastry I make turnovers with jam in them they are the same shape as your pies but I bake them in the oven this was something my mum used to do I am from Yorkshire in the uk and it’s something we have always done thanks Miss Lori God bless xx

Ms. Lori, I’m so glad you did this video! When I was a kid, this was about the only fried pie flavor that was heard of around here and it was delicious! Thanks for taking us back ❤️
My grandma Helen made the best chicken dumplings and yes all the bones too! Thank you for helping me remember such a good thing.
Heaven! Apricot fried pies are my favorite, and love the unique ‘fried pie dough recipe’! Can’t wait to try! ❤
My mom had window screens that she put on top of our well house! She always had dried fruit! Later she got a dehydrator! Oh, the smells in our house! Thanks for bringing back sweet memories! May God bless!
Just fried my last apple fried pie!! Time to make more. Takes me back to grandmas house!
The 🌧️ rain on your roof is absolutely wonderful!! So soothing and calming🌧️😊
Thank you! 😊
Yummy! I'll have to give that a try! I've made pies like that, but baked them. And I've never made any with apricot. Wow! Thank you ❤
Love, love, love these!!! My Daddy used to make them. They bring back lots of good memories!😊
I grew up in a summer beach cabin with only kerosene lanterns. We had small wall hung lanterns next to our beds and throughout
and hanging shaded lanterns over tables.
I loved the apricot fried pies, but I’m mostly thankful y’all are ok after the storms!!! Praise the Lord♥️🙏
Mom made the best Fried Fruit pies. (RIP ‘Honey’) Thanks for your Apricot Fried Pies, Ms Lori. 🥰Nostalgic goodness! 👍
Tortilla press works great for dough, instead of rolling out. Use cut plastic bag over the dough in the press.
Yes, I do that too
I always keep dried apricots in my pantry and I so appreciate this recipe!
Apricot fried pies are my favorite. My Grandma, great Aunt and my Mom always made them when I was growing up. My mom still makes them for my birthday. Thanks for the memories. Also it's a small world. My Dad is from Biggers. My grandma lived there her whole life.
Watched this again today. We had a big old apricot tree in our backyard when I was a kid. They were delicious.
I wish I was there. I love fried pie! Yum Yum! Thanks Mrs. Lori 🥰
Love me miss Lourie God bless you and Mr. Brown
Apricot pies are my favorite but I've never made them. I can tell you have made them a lot! They are so pretty!
You are the best Miss Lori! Thank you for making my day! God bless.❤️

I will be 77 in a few days,
My MIL had the biggest apricot tree I've ever seen. She taught me how to make apricot fried pies when I was 18 yrs, old and married to her son.
She would load up grocery bags with the apricots, She would make a batch and store them in a shoe box to gift them to her son for his birthday.
Happy Birthday to you!! 🎁🎈🎉🥳🎂
Oh my goodness, those look so good, just like my grannies looked.
You and Mr Brown are refreshing to watch .. reminds me of childhood memories but still going on now 😊
Your hands are your most important tools looks yummy 😋
I love fried pies. Cherry filled is my favorite. Chocolate is also very good. Fried pies are a big thing in my area of Oklahoma. There's a town about 2 hours away from us that has a restaurant that makes homemade fried pies. My middle son went with a group he was in to a weekend thing and they got to stop by there to eat at that restaurant. He got a couple of their fried pies and brought them home. Everyone got to taste them and they were delicious! Their fried pies is what put their restaurant on the map for them. So very delicious!
Now you’ve got to show us how you render lard! My hubby ADORES fried pies!
I have a video rendering lard, it's in my information box below my video
Really good with a cup of coffee in the morning..❤
