Please do more coverage on WCW vs The World. Although the controls are archaic compared to the later AKI games, that roster, soundtrack and overall vibe deserves to be mentioned more in the history of wrestling video games.
@@gloman19 I am gonna review it at the end of the month. Its been a while since I've played seriously though. I'm gonna play it for this channel some day.
I'm glad someone brought up vs the world! I always felt like this game gets not enough credit when talking about AKI games. Maybe I have more nostalgia for it than others, since I played it before the N64 WCW games.
@@beanomac3126 AKI Man, Vader, Benoit, Taz, Eddie Guerero, and Buh Buh in No Mercy, Kanyon, Cactus Jack. Bash at the Beach, Royal Rumble 2000, the outdoor stadium in VPW2
Misawa and Kobashi in VPW2 are easily my favorite characters to play as in any of the AKI games. I love hitting the rolling elbow and the super finishers in VPW2 just made them that much more fun
Ultimo was my favorite when I was young and first played World Tour before I found the Ninja. I'd like Ultimo more if it wasn't for that damn running powerbomb!!! 💢😠
@beanomac3126 funny thing is I didn't know how to execute finishers until I looked up tips around 05-06 I believe. Also, I learned about low blows from wake-up, but you're right, you need a good spot to effectively use the powerbomb. I probably only played World Tour a few times, so I never saw much of the full roster past the wcw guys. On revenge, I played around quite a bit, so maybe a little more than 30% of the wrestlers I used at least once.
I didn't know about strong grapples until Shawn Michaels taught me in the Hardcore Championship path. 😂 No Mercy was the first AKI game I ever played for context.
@beanomac3126 not bad to start there. The non-aki wcw games were usually ass and I had thunder I think. Later I had a couple wwe games between gamecube and Xbox. Toys r us had a sale or maybe a bargain bin
Some of them were actually pretty crazy. They had some strong move sets with great finishers! I love the fact that Mae Young has the Jackhammer and Sting's DDT for her finishers. 😂 AKI sure had fun with those characters that's for sure.
@@PabloComixYT honestly I never watched early WCW or New Gen WWF. That said I know most names just from podcasts and history from the WWE. I think they're great from I have seen and played so far! And I'm glad WrestleMania 2000 is getting some good mods for a change.
@@DeepSouthEdc you think you impress Bean O Mac because you like to play as some jabroni named, Juventud? 😂 All jokes aside those are some solid picks. I love making fools tap with the cross face. I totally understand what you mean about the WWF games though. I never understood why they let you have total control over the difficulty on the WCW and Japan games but, in the WWF games you have to mostly play on what they establish the difficulty to be.
Jeff Hardy - love the high flyers The rock - love using the peoples elbow Rey Mysterio - I like the high flyers and he had some cool attires X-pac - he’s just cool lol Triple h - devastating looking pedigree Stone cold - I love the punch he uses in No mercy, makes it way easier to eliminate people in survival mode
@@funwithcawsexcellent choices. X Pac was very close to being on the list as well. Probably one of the most unique attitude era wrestlers in the WWF. The Hardy Boyz are awesome as well. Maybe I'll do a ranking of my favorite teams as well at some point.
Good surprise Bulldog is on your list. Back in the day I would never choose him in No Mercy, but nowadays he became pretty much my favorite for multiple reasons. His moveset is so perfectly generic powerhouse if that makes any sense lol. But he still has that surprisingly cool double knee drop as a special dive move. Second, he wasn't featured in No Mercy's counterpart game Smackdown 2, which makes him kinda exclusive. And third, having him as the European Champion just feels right. It's his title dammit 😅.
Pretty much everything you said I agree with. He has an old school moveset that I love. Plus he's always someone I play the European championship path with. Only thing is, I wish they had an old style trunks outfit for him like he had when he came back. Or the trunks he would have had in WrestleMania 2000. I don't why they didn't have a retro outfit for him in the shop when others like Boss Man, Undertaker, and Mankind did.
@beanomac3126 I can't understand either. Possibly because No Mercy is still an early 3D wrestling game. Creationmode was still more of a side thing compared to later games. And I'm sure they didn't have enough time left for more content. Yeah, would have been nice if they had his real wrestling gear for some variety. But I like this "I don't give a shit about ring gear" Bulldog. It's the edgy hardcore attitude version of him lol.
Respectable ranking the only one that raised an eyebrow was bulldog but i get it. Some of my regular/top picks based mostly on fun & effectiveness: Ultimo dragon, han zo mon, black ninja. DDP, sting (felt almost op on revenge), Steve austin, beniot, angle. I liked misawa & vader on vpw2 but thats not a game i grew up with so i got less strong memories for that one.
That's a great list. Obviously Steve, Ninja, and Ultimo made mine so I get it. Benoit, Angle, and Vader were considered but didn't make the cut. Maybe if it was a little later in Kurt's career, had more suplexes, and the Ankle Lock he might've made it. I never really watched WCW so most of those guys while I know of them, I don't know much about them. Even though he was based off of Hayabusa, I wasn't a fan of Han Zo Mon because I liked the Black Ninja better! 😂 Thanks for sharing.
I’m a little biased because I believe the best and most accurate movesets come from VPW 2. Hansen, Jumbo, Misawa, Kobashi, Albright and Dr. Wagner Jr are just some of my favorites.
Yeah AKI is hit or miss on some stuff. I remember the Hardy Boyz didn't have any accurate finishers in WrestleMania 2000. They gave a few characters the side hook kick who never used it. But Japanese wrestling seemed like the developers true loves and it shows with VPW games.
I had a few go to's Jushin Liger Rey Mysterio Randy Savage Sting Misawa Triple H Taka Jericho Eddie Chyna If I play any Aki game I'm usually any of these characters
Solid list. I used to dabble in Rey Mysterio since he was on WWE TV when I was first played these. HHH is on the list and Jericho is unique at the very least. I liked playing as him in Revenge.
