Crash Tag Team Racing Playthrough Part 4-Tomb Town
Yea that was Teddy Long's stick with the "One on one......with The Undertaker!!" Funny at first but way overused yet still got with fans for a good pop. I saw THAT too with the momentum with Undertaker. Total final boss like gimmick Favorite Orton era, Viper era. Was taken more seriously yet he was total head case around that time in 09. Favorite Jericho era, the era where he turned on Shawn Michaels and kept calling him a hypocrite and became the World Heavyweight champion on Raw. Favorite Triple H era, DX second run with Shawn. Excellent playthrough of DoR2. Again wished I could've played this game while I still had a Wii
@@rdpruett88 I think people appreciate the Teddy Long catchphrases more now a days then back then. I honestly never paid much attention to it at the time. Going back, it's all there! 😂 I feel like DX 2006 was underrated for sure. Very corny but very entertaining still. Maybe someday you'll be able to nab a Wii or GameCube again. Backwards compatibility was one of the best features for a console. At the time, we took it for granted. At least I thought it would be something normal going forward but now it seems like a toss up.
@beanomac3126 nowadays we got digital games and emulators. Backwards compatibility was something special
@@rdpruett88 emulators are great. But for some reason it seems most companies haven't taken advantage of the digital market. So many classics that can be on the stores that aren't. Especially PS2 and GameCube games.
Dope bro check out mines
Always that last platform that you got one chance to make. Exciting yet nerve racking at the same time
@@rdpruett88 Link's target test was crazy. You have angle the boomerang throw to get one that is just out of your reach. So devious.
@beanomac3126 I think know which target you mean
I actually like smackdown 2 more. I find the faster paced of the game more fun. But don't get me wrong because both games are very good. I never find the loading that bothersome for me since I'm probably so used to playing playstation games.
At least sometimes you'd get lucky with some divas on the loading screen. It didn't bother me much either for some reason. But only for Smackdown! 2
If there's one thing I wished HCTP took from No Mercy, it's the weight detection system. In No Mercy, if a light heavyweight tries to lift a super heavyweight, it'll fail unless you button mash, which will lead to a more dramatic bump. In HCTP, it'll invariably fail, forcing you to resort to non-lifting moves. It didn't bother me much that it was cut in SVR 2008, and wasn't brought back until WWE '13 where it was made optional.
I think they did it best around the WWE 13 games. I liked that instead of having to memorize move sets it just gave you alternative moves. Although you'd still have the option for lifting moves that worked so I fell they didn't quite get it right with the move options.
Greatest games in America but Japan had a few awesome games too: Giant Gram, AJPW: King's Soul and NJPW Toukon Retsuden 4.
@@TheWrestlingGameNetwork never heard of any of them. 😂 But I have been wanting to try out some more Japanese wrestling games to see what all the hullabaloo is about. I enjoy the Virtual Pro Wrestling series.
@@beanomac3126 I wouldn't have been able to play them without emulation and google translate (photo mode) but I've had fun. There are so many I had never played so it was like opening pandora's box of wrestling games.
Thanks for the translation tip.
@@beanomac3126 No problem. It was a game changer. It's not 100% accurate but it was enough to help me navigate menus which was my biggest barrier.
I always thought it was A.K.I. Not “Ah-Key”
Why would they take this feature out in later aki titles ?
I have no idea why it seems they took this out of Revenge since there are so many masked wrestlers. For No Mercy and WrestleMania 2000 since most wrestlers don't wear face paint or masks it makes sense. Although it would have been cool to tear Kane's mask and see his burnt face underneath.
To me it depends on what era of wrestling you prefer i think HCTP is the better game cause im a fan of the ruthless aggression era obviously i do like no mercy & a good amount of the attitude era in general tho
That makes a lot of sense. If you watched both though like me, it's still a tough decision. But I love Smackdown v Raw 2006 and 2007 more because that's when I started watching the WWE for the first time on weekly television.
You should make a deep dive video into the cancelled Backlash game that AKI was working on as a sequel to No Mercy. I think they cancelled it because the N64 was too close to the end of its run and the GameCube was about to release. If you think about how revered No Mercy is, who knows how much better Backlash could have been.
It could've been great, unless they removed a bunch of stuff to add in more things. That said though, sadly Backlash was just a myth. A former THQ Producer named Sanders Keel debunked it on a few podcasts. The best we can hope for is RetroRandyPrice someday.
In choosing between these two, I'm most likely gonna go with No Mercy cause I'm more familiar with it and nostalgia reason. I wish when I had a PS2 I could've given HCTP a try. Didn't start playing the PS2 WWE games until SD vs Raw 06
Here comes the pain I think was actually my first wrestling game. I remember getting it for Christmas but I was way too young to even try and play it. Had to wait a year until Smackdown vs Raw and the handed down N64 games.
Alexa Bliss swallows.
Nice? 😂
How was Rob Van Dam a rising star considering what he had done in ECW?
Even though he could've been a main eventer at the time in WWE, he was still an upper mid carder at the time I feel.
Man would love that 16 grapple gimmick in the next AEW Game. Love the RPG elements in the HCTP story mode, too. They could do all lf Daily's place the way they did MSG in HCTP along with the subway station underneath as well as a couple of the surrounding blocks. I know it was due to hardware limitation, but I love the intros using in-game models. Figjt Forever sorely missed modes like Survival and Slobberknocker. They even have a built in name considering Taz's version is a Rocketbuster. The 2K games CAW suite is overwhelming. And exactly copy of the No Mercy's Smackdown Mall CAW with a catchy song on loop would be perfect. Got to be able to change and add finishers freely like Day of Reckoning.
HCTP is better imo
What do you enjoy most about Here Comes the Pain?
Sanders Keel said on a podcast he was a tester at THQ his mentor asked him to play Virtual Pro Wrestling for 2 weeks and see if these guys should make a WCW game for THQ. Sanders played for like 20 minutes and loved it because it played like grappler instead od a fighting game so he had them do a quick and dirty localization. WCW gave them the shots of Sting months before he debuted as the Crow as well.
Sanders Keel is awesome! 😎
@@beanomac3126 Agree The need him and Justin Leeper on the AEW game!
@@beanomac3126 Sanders talks about making Wrestlemania x8 in the Talk Sh!t podcast
Haven't checked that one out yet but I have it in my watch later. What did Justin Leeper work on? I'm unfamiliar with him.
@@beanomac3126 Sanders is also on the Insdiers Edge podcast. I provided some questions. Justin Leeper was a creative on the SVR games doing a bunch but most knonw for Road to Wrestlemania for 2009, 2010 and 2011, which he has director's commentaries on TH-cam for where he gives a behind the scenes stories. He's a big AKI guy as well. He's still making games.
For me personally No Mercy is better but Here Comes The Pain is amazing too its a close second for me
@@Mike-t5r9q yeah its definitely a close call. There's good reason these are the standards for wrestling gaming legend!
HMM
Great comparison man!! Everything said here is absolutely true! I love both games, and I played these games to death, and I still enjoy them to this day! Man, you think you could throw in the WWE GameCube games into this mix (if you haven't already)? I am also a huge fan of the WWE GameCube games (barring WM X8, I don't talk about that one lol) 🔥
@@BlueCat98 I definitely am gonna compare the Day of Reckoning series to AKI titles in the future. I haven't played WrestleMania 18 yet though.
hey , noob question here but which version are you playing , which mod
The first match is WCW/nWo Revenge, the entrance music was edited in. The second match is from Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 Freem Edition. The third match is from G.M.Spectre's WrestleMania X mod for Wrestlemania 2000! All games in description for Saturday Slam Fest videos.

Solid list. I used to dabble in Rey Mysterio since he was on WWE TV when I was first played these. HHH is on the list and Jericho is unique at the very least. I liked playing as him in Revenge.
This story mode really loves abusing the hell out of the steel cage match. Little odd to see John Cena without the spinner belt since this game came out in August 05 while the spinner debut in April 05 so four months is kind of a maybe the devs could've made it but guessing they choose not to. Favorite suplex variations, Northern Lights, Dragon, German & Belly to Back suplexs
I agree. They have spammed it quite often. Maybe they thought Cena's design was just temporary. I actually really liked Cena's design. Who was your favorite to see give those kinds of suplexes?
@beanomac3126 the spinner belt has a mixed opinion. Some love it while other hate the F out of it. Favorite person to see delivering suplexs, Kurt Angle & Taz. Especially Taz in his ECW days
Taz was cool with those suplexes. Although he annoyed the crap out of me when he came to WWE. Great announcer though. Plus I think it's a toss up for me, either Tazz or Jericho had the best debut in WWE.
@@beanomac3126 well, Tazz beat Kurt Angle at the Royal Rumble in 2000 and Jericho had a verbal one on one with The Rock on his first night in WWE in 99.
this big show attire is awful lol
Its pretty much his debut look. Same one from the original Smackdown except they updated his hair cut. But Big Show's 1999 attire wasn't my favorite either.
The day of Reckoning games are no slouch lol. I haven't played DoR2 in about two years but I maid it all the way to the fatal four way cage match.
I was able to beat that match pretty easily honestly. It was the fatal Fourway number one contender match for the US title that messed me up the most.
@beanomac3126 Yeah I guess everyone has their own hangups.
I'm sure of I did the cage match again, I would find out why people hate it so much. I'm fine with not knowing.😂
Could you imagine Super Smash bros without Mario
It'd be a small time Nintendo property that fans would be clamoring for a switch port after being on hiatus. Just like a bunch of Nintendo franchises around the GameCube and Wii era.
Nice
Went from WrestleMania on Sega Genesis to this on PS1 in 1997 and it blew my mind! I was 12 years old. I lived in an apartment complex and 3 of my friends had the game. We'd have Title Vs Title Matches every weekend. We'd also run 4v4 tournaments taking turns against the CPU. This was the best wrestling game experience of my life. I always used Billy Gaijin because I LOVED Scott Norton.
What a time to be alive. I have to admit, I grew up with the PS2. So seeing better graphics between game consoles and hearing about technical limitations was cool. But now, it seems we've almost reached the summit. So the console graphics jump isn't really meaning much now. When I was a kid, HD was a distant dream. Then in a short time it became the standard. Technology moves fast that's for sure.
this was far better than the nitro and thundar games for PSX. I still dont understand why they moved away from this format for the PSX but gave pure gold to n64.
They seem to have gotten lazy. The developers of Nitro and Thunder I don't think we're even wrestling fans. THQ left them to their own devices and they were more interested in putting themselves in a game than actually making a good one. That said, I've still got to try Nitro and Thunder before I give a final grade to it.
I don't really like the mma mode tbh they allow the Irish rope or the running attacks it just pisses me off
Vs The World was so fun back in the day. This game was the beginning of my nerdom into wrestling.
@@seeowins I think mine was No Mercy. But I heard from a lot of people how awesome this was when it was first released!
This game has some moves AKI never put in the games that followed. For example the straightjacket powerbomb or a military press done quickly as a light move.
