    Nice video, i like to find and process natural clay by myself and make grog by myself going into nature and finding different types of clay can be very nice experience. I mostly use grog from crashed fired pots/bricks etc. or just get some sand and sift it in size as i desire when im bored to grind pots. If you want to make porous and non glazed pot you can add charcoal particles or anything else what will become ash and dosapear in firing process. This pots can be used for flowerpots, some kind of filtration etc. Big porous pot is nice way to drain your clay after wet proces.

    Thank you so much, so useful for selecting clay - it is “samott” in my language (hungarian) and could not find the english translation for it, and you mentioning the german name helped :)

    Lovely chatty presentation, thanks. I add 10% sifted sand to my home dug wild clay, seems to work for throwing although some surfaces benefit from burnishing, cheers

    Thanks for the video. Not finished yet but have a question. Can coffee grounds be used as grog? So there are coffee grounds that have already been made into coffee, and they're the remainder. They're mostly dry. I was wondering if that could serve as Grog with a traditional clay. I was originally using it in a plasticized clay

    How long would you allow a large piece of sculpture about 20 inches high by 10 inches wide to dry.? Stoneware clay with grog?

    can somebody help? i don’t have any grog, i know sand from a riverbed can be used, but is sea sand okay? (rinsed) or would that be dangerous because of the salt? would finely ground down glass work? can any other materials other than your conventional silica sand/volcanic rock etc be used? thanks

    Hello! I have a question. I have a earthenware clay with 0.5mm 20% white grog.. I want to know if I can create mugs to drink out of it? If I put a glossy glaze will still shiny with the grog? Thanks

    Thank you. this video help me to understand a bit better how to choose clay. Why clay has numbers such as 606, 610, etc? Is this just a color number? or related to grog quantity or size? :)

      I think it has to do with firing temperature.

    my i ask where you buy the black grog? What kind of grog is that?

    • @PotterytothePeople
      @PotterytothePeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought it from my local ceramic supplier, Carl Jäger. but most ceramics suppliers should offer grog. Its just a crushed, bisqued black clay.

    Sooo… could I technically smash and grind up my gray bisque ware and mix it with my white clay? 👀
