  • @TorToroPorco

Interesting consistency. I'm going to have to see whether our Japanese bakery makes them. I like the Chinese curry buns but they generally don't have as much curry in them. However the curry is thick as it contains finely chopped ground beef. I also find the Japanese curries I've tried to be sweeter than what I'm used to locally and not as spicy.
In the past few years when I travel I usually book a food tour so I can sample some of the local cuisine and not worry about the language barrier. It helps to eliminate some of the guess work and sometimes the guides will take you to places that are not always accessible to tourists. When I visited Taipei this past January I was noshing almost every 2-3 hours because I was trying so many different places and foods.

We have or at least we used to have these in Vancouver at the Asian stores/bakery but I haven't had one in a long time. Not as good as the ones I tried in Japan but it gets the job done. Anyone, have a good one and happy holidays to you and Kanae!

The only bread i could never wrap my brains is the "yaki soba pan"..... fried noodles in soya sauce in bread with a deep fried crust (not the 7-11 version)....its something you could not stop eating. Then the yuzu pan and chestnut pan from that previous day (pan store in Ginza opposite nissan crossing) is something to travel for.....but I dunno why people do not like to go L2 to have the pan with kohi (coffee in Japanese)...kinda good breakfast watching the shops opening if you are there around 9am.

This was a cool livestream! I would definitely take the train to get here and do a food adventure around Morishita. While I was in Shinagawa and went to the Shinagawa Station, there was an area that sold various types of pan. I never tried any as there were so many food items to choose from. But curry pan is one of my favorites. I've also tried a corned beef pan which was weird. But curry pan, especially Japanese curry, is the best!

Food is absolutely worth it to travel... though during a pandemic, maybe not so much if it involves long distance travel. I will absolutely try that panya when I go in the future. I also have a want to know more about the history of the food at a shop like you. That's the main reason why I wanted to see if you could find out the history of places like Kichi kichi omurice. My absolute favorite place would be Buta Daigaku in Tokyo. It's a mandatory stop every time I go to Japan. It's somewhat cheap and such a simple meal of bacon/pork belly and rice. It just puts me in a state of bliss whenever I eat it, like "yeah... this is a good life." Likewise with a really good burger, like my favorite joint in Okinawa called Captain Kangaroo.
