You can't imagine how blown my mind was hearing this album, when it came out. I was playing guitar in heavy bands, writing riff based tunes, and this just threw the windows open on how to express more complex feelings than I had by then been capable of.

Being a hip hop Dj at the time I was getting side eyed by some friends but I sampled the drums and my friends remained impressed and my then girlfriend became obsessed with the album. What can I say about 'Sleep to Dream'? It's an absolute piece of genius and puts everything in perspective. It's so personal yet portrays such a universal experience. I first listened to this last year and I listened to it a few times but I didn’t get into it. This year when I had been through some shit including having a toxic crush was when I realised how good this song is and how much I need it in my life. I was pissed off about life and I'd spent hours being annoyed then I listened to this song and discovered the amazing lyricism. It's so scathingly beautiful and Fiona is not afraid to tell the person what she thinks. The listener doesn't necessarily predict 'For all I care' being added onto the line 'Then give me mine back/And go there' showing the slightly unpredictable nature of this song. Fiona reveals the manipulative and weak ways of who the song was written for. This is one of my favourite songs atm and it has put things in perspective

You can't imagine how blown my mind was hearing this album, when it came out. I was playing guitar in heavy bands, writing riff based tunes, and this just threw the windows open on how to express more complex feelings than I had by then been capable of.

I remember seeing this album being promoted on T.V on a 20 second ad repeatedly and the day after I brought it. Being a hip hop Dj at the time I was getting side eyed by some friends but I sampled the drums and my friends remained impressed and my then girlfriend became obsessed with the album. Fiona Apple still remains unflinchingly brilliant. No sell out. ✌🏿

What can I say about 'Sleep to Dream'? It's an absolute piece of genius and puts everything in perspective. It's so personal yet portrays such a universal experience. I first listened to this last year and I listened to it a few times but I didn’t get into it. This year when I had been through some shit including having a toxic crush was when I realised how good this song is and how much I need it in my life. I was pissed off about life and I'd spent hours being annoyed then I listened to this song and discovered the amazing lyricism. It's so scathingly beautiful and Fiona is not afraid to tell the person what she thinks. The listener doesn't necessarily predict 'For all I care' being added onto the line 'Then give me mine back/And go there' showing the slightly unpredictable nature of this song. Fiona reveals the manipulative and weak ways of who the song was written for. This is one of my favourite songs atm and it has put things in perspective

I remember when this came out in 1997. I was 18 years old. Back when Fiona Apple, Natalie Imbruglia, Britney Spears, Tori Amos, Robyn, Brandy, Aaliyah, Billie Piper, Alanis Morissette, Björk, Monica and Jewel all came out in the 90s. I miss those days.
"Intense" is a great adjective to describe her. She's even more intense on her live performances.

She reminded me that we can't just curl up and hide. We can take our trauma & turn into something to reach others.❤ And yesss i sleep to dream....even though i have flashback meds.
