    Classical and known composition of course, but this is not classical music. This is jazz, or may be better to call it third stream, a cross-over between classical music and jazz. Jazzing the classics is something that has been done many times but it's really amazing how Lewis built his astonishing rendition around, and inside, the Well Tempered Clavier. He subtitled the work « The Bridge Game ». The most disconcerting version I ever heard. Much better than the K. Jarret's ridiculous one using a harpsichord. I don't really care about J. Pareles ( N.Y. Times) sending flowers to Jarret ( the media darling) and trying to destroy Lewis' work. For my own taste, this is a stylish and technical exploit. Just sayin'.

    Thanks so much for uploading all four of these wonderful albums and for bringing joy to an old jazz lover who, incidentally, is a big Bach fan too. Thanks too for being considerate enough to list the pieces played in all four uploads

      @@jamesroecker6436 I had a chance meeting a John Lewis friend and musical partner. I came with the Chopin subject when talking about Lewis' fascinating work, how he rebuilt Bach's WTK and why he never had a similar attempt with Chopin. The answer was as follows, a time issue at first, rewriting the WTK was a life project, old John dedicated all his " free" time to this project. The second part of the answer was from Lewis' words, no one can equal Vladimir Sofronitsky playing Chopin...one is an ignoramus but can only agree.

    Thanks so much for uploading this incredible music. It's the only one of the four Bach CDs John Lewis made that I wasn't able to find anywhere.

    The Prelude & Fugue in F minor (very first piece in this track) is one of the best I have ever heard; the improvisation on the theme afterwards gave me chills ....

    I feel that J Lewis doesn't have the verve of J Loussier interpretation of JSBach..more a sombre approach.. but still he remains one of my favourite pianists.. He sits better with his Bach presentations within the MJQ... Harvey Perkoff

    I thank you for uploading this remarkable work, however, with all due resect, I find it distasteful to praise one artist that you admire by condemning other artists that you do not appreciate. It exaggerates negative emotions and turns music that was (usually) meant to inspire love, joy and understanding into a dividing issue filled with hate and anger. Certainly you can agree that if music can uplift the spirit for some you shouldn't be so judgemental of that. Please continue praising the artists that you love, without judging the preferences of others.

      Most of the "anger" is against medias, especially Pareles who really smashed the Lewis' work. So I'm doing for him. Well he's Pareles and one is only a youtuber, fair enough.

      Uri Tibon I hope you never overhear what musicians really think of certain of their peers. The opinions voiced are much harsher than anything appearing here.

      I bought some of Loussier's recordings several years ago. I even listen to his trio from time to time. It's a matter of taste of course but..how to says that, Loussier is for the third stream what are the Gipsy Kings for the Flamenco music.

    • @yvespenhoat6775
      @yvespenhoat6775 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. This is particularly true if you compare Loussier version of the goldberg variations to Lewis. Lewis version is a misery.

      When you listen to Loussier's version of brandenbourg concerto n2 with the royal philharmonic orchesta, you quickly forget Lewis
