I'm in disbelief that I'm currently loving win10. I remember back in the days when I updated to win10, couldn't run half of my games and reverting back to win7 thinking that win10 is a trash. Years passed and now I don't think I'll be moving from win10, until they stop the support. Can't believe 8 years have passed this quickly.
@@dreaper2087 Linux doesn't work out of the box for anything non steam, and steam is trash by itself. Like, i get that Linux is good, i use Mint myself, but most folks just want something to work out of the box. That's why windows garbage is so popular
@@dreaper2087 You and i both know that most people don't care what they use, as long as it works with minimal effort on their part. Windows is the easiest to just run out of the box at a reasonable price, that's why people stick with it. I remember people decrying death of Windows (as much as i'd like this to happen), when vista was released, and again with w7 and 8, yet here we are.
@@dreaper2087 My dude, are you aware of how many people don't care about our issues with windows? It's evident by the sheer amount of pc users that run 10 and 11. No amount of proof will ever convince people to switch. And yes, it does work out of the box for casual users, you can't deny that. Your problem is that you assume people care. They don't, that's why always online requirments, excessive drms, whatever crap nvidia is pulling, steam being just a drm store where you don't even own the things you pay for, and many, many things are still happening. Most people don't care, that's a fact. Also, did you read what i wrote? I didn't say old systems were horrible, i just said that people have been saying "windows is dying" for 2 decades now.
Have you thought about setting up a website with all the data? From videos love the unique GPUs and CPUs would be great to see a site with all the data laid out with FPS and temps and things! (I'd love to help in my free time with updates if you want me to reach out somehow?) EDIT: Wow looks like might be popular! I've started a light bit of work to get some foundation in place if it would ever come alive! But of course it would all be on RG if he want's something like this!
This is actually an amazing idea. Reminds me of those old forums with rare info that you find from people who probably moved on with their life, but the knowledge preserved like an obscure time capsule.
This upload couldn't have come at a better time, i plan to re-install Windows fresh today as its been a while and was wondering should i go 11 or just stick with 10,looks like 10 it is.
To see most of the "improvements" that Windows 11 was supposed to bring, you need to test it with those Hybrid CPUs. The Win11 scheduler is supposed to handle that while Win10 struggles. That's one of the few actual reported differences to test.
actually i have an intel 12th gen laptop and tested both 10 and 11. For some reason 10 always scores higher with hyperthreading on and off in cinebench. But in heaven benchmark 10 only got 1 higher avg fps but a slightly less score and worse 1% low than 11
@@someguywithmtndew5691 Scheduler was one of the reasons I was on W11 with my new system. But now I'm on W10 with 13400f with no problem. I've used W11 for a month, I haven't done any tests but I ran the same game with the same settings, I noticed the FPS is about the same but W10 is more cooler, not to mention OS is a little bit faster. I think scheduler is more of a marketing to make people use W11, I don't think they would notice anything whether they're on W10 or not
@@aeref6498 22H2, honestly you wouldn’t even notice much performance difference, maybe latency but idk. i guess 10 is if you need it to be snappy and 11 for a good looking os
I would like to see this same comparison in performance tests of each possible game, it is clear that each game restart is different and if things show different in both cases the difference cannot be appreciated so well
Doubt there will be much difference, since almost all of the (valid) benchmarks show megligible differences between the two OS'es (except Win11 using more RAM across the board).
I have seen it mentioned that a clean install of Win 11 is recommended over the upgrade for best gaming results per HUB. i would also like to mention some apps may fail to work on 11. Ryzen master went out for me but i found a workaround, it was not easy. Great video!
@@prathamdave5849 Geez, i forget the details but it was in device security, I disabled the Windows 11 approved driver protection list. I remember I had to disable TPM for that setting to show up in hardware security then i turned it back on after disabling the setting. I did a clean uninstall first and reinstall last. Ryzen Master comes with drivers so you must do a reboot for full uninstall and a reboot for full reinstall. If you search you will find the details I posted all over Google. Good luck
The rule of thing for me is keeping the oldest windows product until it is no longer supported , then you switch the second oldest . Because every newer product is an even more intrusive spyware than the last one , The last operating system for me was windows 7
"even more intrusive spyware than the last one" lol likey said by a hypocrit Google user of some kind - but never mind that, neraly all of the stores/major software you have installed on your PC is telling someone a lot about you - and your ISP is also logging your internet stuff. Buit please do be distracted by "Windows Spyware", ya fuding baby.
if you have no clue how to install modified windows then it's your fault for waiting, you can get non bloated and faster versions of the latest windows versions that has qol features added as well easily
Thats usually the case anyway. A fresh install of any software is generally better than upgrading over top an existing version where some older files that are not overwritten can get let behind and can sometimes cause issues ranging from incompatibility issues to performance issues. Thankfully MS provides Win 10 and Win 11 for free via Media installation tools that you put onto a bootable USB etc and then install from there.
I was using win 11 for about 10 months, now going back to win 10 pro, more stable, less crash, very good temperature control, mostly I play PC game.. Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 3060, 32gb RAM .. I might consider to go back to Win 11 again probably after 1 year when it become more stable.
Did you upgrade to Windows 11 or did you actually install Windows 11 on a formatted drive? I remember back in the day, I had a ton of performance issues with the free Windows 10 upgrade. Once I bought a Windows 10 disc and installed it on a fresh drive, all those performance problems were gone. I'm building a new PC (I9-13900k, RTX 4090, 64GB of RAM) and will be installing Windows 11 on it on a freshly formatted drive to avoid issues with Microsoft's free "upgrades".
I took a gamble to install Windows 11 as I rebuilt my PC recently with a 12th gen i5. Currently I like it way better and have had no issues. My only gripe is the power/restart icon in the start menu being on the opposite side of where it was in windows 10 lol
G'day Random, I am still using W10, W7, Vista & XP Home on various PCs😁 My XP PC is for doing Anologue to Digital conversions, I do photos from film & Slides plus music & Home Video from LP, cassettes & VCR. I also use it for Retro Gaming.
I am actually surprised with the results. I've seen many comparisons before from reliable tech channels and results were in favour of Windows 11 with some remarkable margins in some games
I'm not too surprised, since Windows 10 and 11 are quite silimar, except for more background tasks/RAM usage in 11. and if you have a decent CPU that supports Windows 11, you shouldn't run into hardware limitations anyways (at least limitations that would affect one OS over another).
Would you be able to make a video comparing between versions of Windows on older hardware? Wondering if Win 11 makes any appreciable difference on older stuff - it would be easier and cheaper if I could get more performance from OS upgrade than spend money on hardware upgrade. 😊
Changing your Windows version will change nothing in terms of performance, although for older hardware you might consider playing on Linux, as it is way less taxing in system resources
@@clear9104 Windows 11 is also more RAM demanding, so those older machines which topped out at 8GB or 16GB would struggle compared to a 32GB/64GB system.
this was interesting. wasn't really surprised that W11 is a bit more taxing but I'm happy to see its pretty negligible. I've been running it for a while and haven't had any issues, however my hardware is a 3700x and 2070 super so it doesn't make a huge difference.
Everyone hating on 11 has kind of surprised me. I have used 97/98, XP, 7, Vista, 8 and 10 in my life time and would say that 11 has been the best since the good old days of 7. 10 had way too much bloat and buried/removed features that had been present for years.
Yeah. just like RGinHD's system which is a 12th gen i5 and 3060, there won't be a whole lot of difference because the load at idle will be negligible. And I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you want to play CS at 1080p lowest then you absolutely don't need this hardware, just get a Dell or HP junkbox with a Core 2 Quad in it and throw in a low profile 710 or 1030. Problem solved, and it frees up good hardware for those that actually want to make their games look better than a PS2 title.
how come win 11 eats so much more vram? this probably needs to be investigated further, especially when approaching vram limits - i hope it's not a flat increase in usage across the board, that would nerf some nvidia cards which otherwise have plenty of compute
Great video idea! As a system builder I get asked this question a lot. Can you try again with some older hardware? I'd love to see if that has a greater affect.
the new intel 12th and 13th gen are supposed to be optimized for win 11, they have a better scheduler apparently. This is the best comparison you could make to prove their claims and it's clear that there's practically no benefit to using win 11 for gaming and they're full of bullshit lol
@@SweatyFeetGirl For Ryzen you are right but 7700K Is a 4C/8t CPU that has only 256kb L2 cache on each core in auto mode, anywho It Is a terrible CPU and everyone criticized It when It came out so idk what this guy Is about LOL, It was barely an improvement over the 6700k and the 6900k destroyed it, and the Ryzen has even worse IPC so If not for Security, definitely the performance of these Chips won't be enough to Run It. Intel kept the Monopoly of releasing the same chip every year beacuse they were far ahead in IPC even on Just 4 Cores, but when Ryzen started rising the stakes and applications needed also more cores rather than Simply faster Cores, they died very fast.
1) Those aren't really older games; 2) It'd be more interesting to see compatibility tests for actually older games; here you're essentially comparing the performance of relatively recent games on the latest two versions of Windows; the results here are as expected, with the possible exception of RDR2, it might be an issue with your system or a W11 bug that will likely get patched eventually;
Please compare these to Tiny10, Tiny11, ReviOS and Ghost Spectre as well. Especially on some lower hardware, I find these do really, REALLY well on anything Skylake and lower.
@@JeFi2 Afaik it's one of those that uses an older build of Windows and patches out too many things. Same reason quite a few people have had issues with Ghost Spectre. Tiny10/11 and ReviOS are my favorites!
@@b0ne91 what do you mean ? Ghost spectre also provides latest builds of windows 11 and 10 as well as older LTSC builds for full potatoes. Also ghost toolbox is such an incredible tool to install every additional apps and softwares as well as updating the windows version. I am using it from past 6 years at this point.
The TH-cam channel AdamantIT recently did a fresh install of Ghost Spectre and a fresh default Windows 10 install (in their weekly podcast), and there was no performance difference between them. The only real benefit from these alternate installs of Windows is less storage usage. Windows does a pretty good job with managing background processes by default. If you are below the minimum specs for Windows 10, the OS will run badly on any of these alternate versions - same as a default install would.
I did a video on my other channel, but I tested 7 operating systems. And I tried Windows 11 Superlite, and it didn't do any better than Windows 11. And Windows 11 did a bit better than Windows 10. But Windows 8.1 did a ton better than all of them. And Linux I couldn't benchmark correctly, but it seemed like the slowest operating systems where the 2 Linux ones.
There's a ton of tweaks you can do to optimize win11 performance. You can even set up a different user only for gaming with only the necessary system apps running in the background .
@hawky2k215 that does nothing. That setting is only to set the type of "recommendations" (aka advertisements) they will try to "suggest to you" (aka they'll force it down your throat).
Conclusion:fps depends mainly on the hardware itself and driver support. CS GO has a lower fps because it uses old graphics APIs that are quietly starting to cut out of the system
Kind of weird but I've noticed on older intel chips in particular mobile 3rd and 4rth gen that windows 11 is actually more stable than 10 which is really weird it doesn't seem to help gaming much though not that I do a lot on 3rd and 4th gen laptops lol too bad they didn't make it an option for older pcs
Yes, 11 does seem refined. 10 is a whole lot more likely to have Windows Update errors with Defender updates. 10 is infamous for 0x80070643 with Defender updates.
With all the hate around win 11 and weird stuff going with it i decided to upgrade a year ago and i don't regret it, even though i faced some issues i still find it very stable and good os overall .
Windows 11 feels to me like ME/Vista and 8.1. It's most likely another stop gap OS until 12 releases, which I'm also not looking forward too. Even 10 gets more annoying to configure with each bigger patch, some configurations I can find online that you can do pretty quick and easy with group policies no longer work, the options are just gone. I'ts not only the amount of data that gets sold to advertisers, for me it's mostly the bad usability that annoys me more and more about Windows. I don't use the MS "app store", Edge, Cortana or all that other garbage but disabling them is unnecessarily complicated.
I thought it was age getting on my person and that I was getting rispy, but now I know why I was having difficulty changing many Windows 10 settings. It wasn't just on me I am sad on the one hand, but happy to know that it was not something invented by my mind. Windows 10 has really gotten worse over the past 3 years. everything is hard to find and modify. all absurdly complicated and hidden. The old tutorials just don't work anymore and some configuration options were bombed forever from the map
@@MysticRixel Why? These are all stop-gap OS. Just look at statistics for all three of them, none of them were widely accepted. Sure, 8.1 wasn't as buggy as ME or Vista but it was still a stop gap OS.
The only reason I still run windows is because a few apps I need to use don't run on Linux so I'm happy to stick with 10 for the few games I play that don't play nice with Linux. Makes no sense to me to install an OS then have to remove stuff/debloat it and/or disable stuff.
Would have loved to see the 12600KF tested instead of the 12400F, since it's the cheapest CPU with the new BIG.little core design. I'm thinking that there could be differences in how W11 handles those cores compared to W10 but who knows.
@@HappyBeezerStudios Indeed, I will be getting a Core i9-13900k which has the big.LITTLE architecture. Apparently, big.LITTLE does not play well with Windows 10.
A lot of people dont seem to realize (not uploader) that using more RAM isnt a bad thing necessarily.. its all about how its managed overall. Also was VBS enabled or disabled on the Win11 tests? Just out of curiosity
Windows 11 was a nightmare for me on all of my systems: -Update loop bug, stuck on .NET Framework or BT driver, update fail (No fix in ages) -Game services causing Game Pass games to bug out and not run or not even download (No fix) -Random BSOD's -Corruption of certains software installs such as private VPN's -Weird performance issues in Virtual box and VMWare -Performance drops with Ryzen processors -Issues with the x670 chipset -Random uninstall of Adrenalin driver on my Radeon system, had to force updates off -No Admin access to your system -Accessing my server or NAS is slow -Accessing mechanical drives is slow -Generally slow application startup Since switching back to Windows 10 on all of my systems these issues are no more, once they force us to downgrade to Windows 11 I will switch to Nobara Linux on all of my rigs.
I don't get the Windows 11 hate. Once you left-align the taskbar, It's literally 99% the same OS as Windows 10. Search is still worse than Windows 7 and the interface is still an incoherent battle between old and new. In other words, Windows 10. It's not an ME/Vista scenario where there are serious functional issues with drivers and UAC.
Interesting that RDR2 runs less stable under Win 11 with Alder Lake, despite it being claimed to have the better scheduler for the asymmetrical architecture. The test obviously focuses on gaming performance, but there are obviously other things besides that to factor in when making the decision of which to use.
I experienced the same results of yours, having built a new system, i ran a few bench marks and while the difference at times was small, Windows 10 continually beat Windows 11, so Windows 10 was my choice to install, as Window 12 looms in the future, when the time comes for Windows 10 to expire it's OS life, Windows 12 might be ready, to give it a try.
Don't get your hopes up, Windows 12 might even be way more cpu demanding unless Microsoft miraculously realizes that lower latency is the way to go for gaming and releases a specific version for gaming without useless services. They will probably never do it sadly
The gaps between windows versions keep getting larger and larger. I don't think Windows 12 will be anywhere near releasing when Windows 10 expires. I think Windows 11 is gonna stick around for a while sadly.
Yep, just need to defrag, or performance will be poop, LOL. Especially because the beginning sectors or towards the beginning, are the fastest regions of a platter drive. They always lose performance towards the tail-end! Unlike SSDs, the highest sectors (at and towards the end of the drive) will be slower.
I switched to W11 last week. Debloated it as well, and got rid of any services I don't need, all via my own script. Newer games (MW2, all low for max fps) runs slightly better with no tearing, whereas I did have tearing under W10. Older games suffered slightly, with Doom Eternal losing about 10fps. 1440p, Ryzen 5800x, 32GB 3000MHz, 2070S +500/+800 over stock
Holding off for as long as possible. Having been using steamos on my deck I am really considering trying out holoOS on my main pc. I just worry about over all compatibility. But I expect game performance may be better overall
You can use a simple registry edit to keep Win 11 from deleting your old Win 10 OS after ten days if you desire. I don't know why they did that unless they really don't want you going back to 10.
@@clear9104 Even more entertaining results if you decide to roll back to the old os :D Did that when win10 came out from 7 and "downgraded" back after I got very bad performance in games. Then the win7 reroll had so many issues that a full wipe was necessary to get reliable booting and normal performance in (old 2D shooter) games back (~500fps win7 -> ~25fps win10 -> ~17fps win7 rollback) It was weird
@@Kobo- "might" is such a good word here ^^ (of course I did reboots and such, which resulted in me needing the windows recovery dvd which did let me boot but didnt fix any real issues other than booting)

@@SweatyFeetGirl It was initially very buggy, and it’s not customizable. “Streamlining” Windows made it look like it’s an ugly knock off of what macOS tries to do. Also people want a modern XP like 7 and what 10 became. 11 almost feels more akin to 8.1.

I've heard that Windows 11 is able to make better use of stuff like DirectStorage compared to Windows 10. Something that Xbox has had for awhile now and it might start making its way into PC gaming. This is the main motivating factor for me. It wouldn't surprise me if games that are starting to require an SSD (such as Starfield) will be able to make sure of DirectStorage for smoother FPS and faster loading times.

It is worth remembering 12400f doesn't have efficiency cores, so this might not translate 1:1 to higher end configurations or even just newer ones as 13400f has them. Anyway I have actually switched from 7 to 11, wanted to poke at people who annoyed me for years whenever I mentioned 7 and game support. Well, to be honest I never really liked 10, and would probably use 98SE if I could :P so I thought I can just jump to 11. The major issue is inability to turn off icon grouping in taskbar, this kills workflow and makes 11 impossible for professional use for me (I used to work with text, often switching opened windows between document types and pictures, and I need every single file on a one click). Other than that the Windows Update is just as scary as in 10, the same default view in Control Panel, maybe its a bit trickier to quickly find controller proprietaries and... well I want the clock face back when I click on calendar :P I'm a retro gamer, but so far things like UT still run on 11 out of the box (or out of the iso :P), so does Winamp 2.92 from an installation folder I kept from either 98SE or XP :P, and I still have my old PC with 7 around.
Yeah, I had a HORRIBLE experience with Halo Infinite on Win11 back in Dec '22 -> Jan '23. I had nothing but server crashes and multiplayer unavailable errors and the 1 in 10 tries that allowed me to get into a game, the lag was play-prohibitive. SO frustrating. I'll stick with W10 for as long as I can, I think.
when i tested W11 i lost like 10-20 FPS and had Latency problems and found out its like all the security features, just went back to windows 10 and has been flawless, I dunno if these tests were done with all the Security features turned on or off but holy hell W11 with them on is awful.
why? You think you'll be more secure on Windows 11? This isn't a sarcastic question, I'm actually asking because I know nothing about what OS security even is. I personally think (from the non knowledge I have) that upgrading to Windows 11 for security would actually be a downgrade because of the forced amounts of data collected and shared. I personally use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC that lets me disable any slight telemetry, I have checked that there is nothing sent to microsoft. I don't know about Windows 10 Home and Pro, but I know about Windows 11 and it is horrible in telemetry. I also personally wouldn't upgrade to 11 because it's heavier and a lot more bloated, thought it's a personal need because my hardware isn't the best and I need maximum usage of it.
Windows 10 is almost a perfect operating system, especially if you customize it a little bit. There is no need for a new windows version. This is just another case of companies changing for the sake of change, and making it worse.
May I ask whether you had any of the Win 11 (and 10 security features) enabled during your runs and whether they were equal across os versions? I'm talking of core isolation / memory protection
I can confirm this. Upgrade to a new system with i7 13700k and changed from W10 to W11 just yesterday. Still got the rx 5700xt and in Forza Horizon 5 and RDR2 for example i can say that there is a noticable differenz by around 5 FPS more on W11. Noted everything before because i wanted to test it out by myself. Lets see how it is on other games :)
ive done clean and upgrade method for windows 11 and my benchmark scores were lower than 10 with the same hardware. Windows 11 really serves no purpose other than letting you search processes in the task manager, dark mode skin for task manager and File explorer has tabs. Great features but i find the new w11 quick menu inferior to the action center in 10. I find the performance and stability inferior and at the time of me using 11 the basic feature of having uncombined taskbar labels wasnt even available.
steams gonna stop supporting win7 around january 2024, so you might wanna rethink that lol linux isn't that bad... if you know how to use it at least. might update to it when windows 10 fully losses support as i refuse to switch to win11
Summary for people in hurry: Windows 11 scored better with the average of 2 frames but in exchange it uses much more ram and paged ram. Windows 10 supports older hardware and is more stable at specific situations.
I use windows 10 LTSC and i have to say it's the best os when it comes to gaming by far. Official, almost no bloatware, etc only downside is that you don't have the Microsoft store by default (What a shame, right? (for those that for some reason use the mss))
I use LTSC too but on my old laptop it's a different story: I can feel some gaming performance difference coming from Windows 7, but most importantly I also had a lot of issues and bugs due to my rare old hardware: intel i5 2430m (intel HD 3000) Radeon HD 6470m. One of the issues is that Windows' graphics settings only see the intel hd 3000 even as the high performance GPU option. I have tested that all graphics cards have the correct drivers and are working as they should, but for some reason Windows doesn't see the Radeon GPU as the high performance one. It just sees the intel HD as both. So, this gave me issues only on one game... my current favourite game, I'm almost not playing anything else these days. Basically for some reason, only that one game uses the windows graphics settings to decide which GPU to use, so it opens on the intel HD 3000. But this single fucking reason. This shit took me days of searching and I only discovered that was the reason by pure luck: The game crashed when opening because my intel gpu wasn't supported, but with no error message at all so I still didn't even know about the Windows graphics settings problem. I have searched for days and there was only one person on reddit with the same problem. ONE. And they still didn't even found the solution. So one day for different reasons I upgraded my intel HD 3000 drivers to those of the HD 4000, then I randomly out of luck decided to open the game again to see if it worked and IT DID!! I was banging my head against the wall at this moment. But I still had to downgrade to my previous HD 3000 drivers because now the Radeon GPU wasn't working for some reason, all other games suddenly run on the intel GPU and they did like shit. So in the end? To play my favourite game I have to swap to my old hard disk with Windows 7 every time. So? I would not say it's the best OS when it comes to gaming by far, at least on my weird old hardware xD
Could you try the same thing but with lower end hardware? Like an I7 4790k and gtx 1060 for example (my hardware basically lol). I'm thinking about installing windows 11 (bypassing the stupid requirements) if it runs fine.
I stick with Windows 10 as long as necessary. :D I really don't like Windows 11 and the microsoft account you will need if you are not bypassing it.. A friend of mine had a lot of problems with his AMD processor when win11 came out, i wonder if the problem is still present or fixed.
I'd be very, very curious to see an outdated Windows thrown into this mix... And, whereas I kinda know the results, a gaming edition of Linux (to save the hassle of doing it yourself, something like Garuda Linux gaming editions). And if you want laughs, try gaming in OS X... I could probably send you a spare, LOL (I rescue eWaste stuff, and in Vermont, we see a lot of Apple - not that it doesn't work, but the ecosystem is draconian). Apple had a really good era or two - the SE/30 and the 2010 Mac Pro are exceptional machines, and I have a soft spot for late era PPC stuff... But I digress. Good video, I like comparisons. I'd love to see you mess with CRTs more too. I could so see you doing semi-retro-PC shootouts. Thanks, as always :)
@@AncientED5 I switched because I dislike Microsoft in general. Like other big tech companies their goal is to control everything and remove ownership of devices from users. I also build my own Android OS from source based on Lineage OS. Sure you can still use Win10 until 2025 and probably even longer, but the software you use doesn't magically get Linux support on one day. Developers need to know that people are using it and then step by step Linux becomes more supported and an easy alternative even for non-tech-savvy users.
i really like the video and the information you give, i only disagree with you on saying that the difference in the 0.1% lows are not noticeable. but maybe I'm to focused on that :P
Windows 11 is irrelevant, obsolete, nevermind it on a desktop pc. Don't care for the 1 fps difference, the ui, options and other small things are bad. Hope for windows 12 being decent. I barely have any (hope)
The answer: of course windows 11 because it's longer supported and of course it supports older versions of directX. If your hardware supports all the features, you should use it. Everything else is a driver issue, which is not windows fault but the fault of the driver's developers.
performance is crippled in w10 above 20h2. They did it probably so w11 doesn't look that bad. It is just an assumption tho. Lemme just point out that there is occuring scheme, whenever microsoft brings update that makes performance worse, they talk about meltdown, or spectre. sometimes it brings different names, but it's always these two where windows "reacts quickly", depraving you from your fps in the name of "safety".
I went with windows 11 when I built my first gaming pc last year simply because I had a very sour experience of windows 10 years ago on a laptop that probably should not have been able to run it
Windows10 is literally a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” situation for me. I have no reason to move away from Win10. 11 has NOTHING enticing; if anything it has numerous reasons reinforcing my opposition to moving up to it.
I updated to Windows 11 from 10 after some hesitation. And I have to say that I don't miss Windows 10 at all after getting used to Windows 11 which didn't take a long time since they are so similar to each other. For me personally, Windows 11 made my PC smoother compared to a clean Windows 10 install. Not only that but even in games I get better and smoother performance. I use a Ryzen 5950X and a 3090 Ti

10 is faster for gaming. Less CPU bottleneck on Win10. Less latency. And it can be even up to 20% faster in some older games. I'm running 3. Win10. Win11 Upgrade from 10 and Fresh install Win11. Both 11 are slower than my old rusty and messy Win10. 13600K 5.5 4080 OC 16GB 4000 CL15 3 SSD's 5 HDD's.

To see most of the "improvements" that Windows 11 was supposed to bring, you need to test it with those Hybrid CPUs. The Win11 scheduler is supposed to handle that while Win10 struggles.
That's one of the few actual reported differences to test.
win10 is good for new processors from 21h2 version. Unfortunately win11 22h2 is screw up for those processors (maybe it is fixed already or not ).
actually i have an intel 12th gen laptop and tested both 10 and 11. For some reason 10 always scores higher with hyperthreading on and off in cinebench. But in heaven benchmark 10 only got 1 higher avg fps but a slightly less score and worse 1% low than 11

Hardware Unboxed did a video a while back that showed that a fresh install of Windows 11 performed consistently better than a Windows 10 to 11 update

G'day Random,
I am still using W10, W7, Vista & XP Home on various PCs😁
My XP PC is for doing Anologue to Digital conversions, I do photos from film & Slides plus music & Home Video from LP, cassettes & VCR. I also use it for Retro Gaming.
I've sill got an XP machine for older games, and Windows 7 for slightly newer stuff (but stuff that doesn't play well with 10).
Can relate, I'm using ancient SGIs for similar tasks. :D But also a USB capture dongle and a PC with NVEnc.
I am actually surprised with the results. I've seen many comparisons before from reliable tech channels and results were in favour of Windows 11 with some remarkable margins in some games
Some $$ were put into some tech chans, I guess.
I'm not too surprised, since Windows 10 and 11 are quite silimar, except for more background tasks/RAM usage in 11. and if you have a decent CPU that supports Windows 11, you shouldn't run into hardware limitations anyways (at least limitations that would affect one OS over another).
I haven't seen any. Every benchmark had results like these.
Money talks.
Nice to see you’re still playing FarCry 5. It’s my favorite FarCry, too 👍🏻
Would you be able to make a video comparing between versions of Windows on older hardware? Wondering if Win 11 makes any appreciable difference on older stuff - it would be easier and cheaper if I could get more performance from OS upgrade than spend money on hardware upgrade.
😊
Changing your Windows version will change nothing in terms of performance, although for older hardware you might consider playing on Linux, as it is way less taxing in system resources
Windows 11 is way more CPU demanding, so if you have a low end one the difference will be bigger

Is it that the system needs that much, or that the games simply allocate more? Which can be a good thing, as unused memory is wasted memory.

Windows 10 will be supported until October 2025, not sure about 11 but I'll probably switch to 12 by then.
why do people hate 11 so much? i've used windows 7 for 6years, 10 for 6 years and now win11 for 1.5years and it's all working fine
@@Bristaps every windows was initially buggy. i don't think people realize how buggy XP;vista, 10 and especially 7 were at launch, 11 was the smoothest for me so far
I've been with 10 for years now, 11 came with my laptop, the bloatware was annoying but I don't have any other complaints. The difference between 11 and 10 is mostly cosmetic from what I can tell, I guess that's why people weren't in a hurry to move over, I just never saw the point if 10 doesn't everything just as well.
@@SweatyFeetGirl yes but other Windows didn't exactly destroy performance on Ryzen systems due to bugs... Windows 10 sucked as well but it was a giant improvement over 8 as opposed to W11, which is basically a more intrusive and simplistic W10.... with more bugs again
Congrats on 500K subs mate!
Yeah, if you like to play new games and have up-to-date hardware there's no reason to not go with W11.
You heard and whats real is two different things
@@DETERMINOLOGY Cool story??
My computer doesn't meet the system requirements for W11. I'd call that a blessing.
been using w11 for a few months now and its pretty much the same on a daily use case. used to drive w10 on my ryzen rig but witching to 13th gen intel i gave w11 a try and it has been nice so far
you should keep using it anyways, 13th gen cpus perform better on win 11
@@Pryme. yup, still using win 11 and it hasnt disappointed me yet. just wish I have the money for a 30 or 40 series nvidia gpu ot replace my good old 1080 ti

We're at the point where Windows needs 3GB RAM in idle. All that for bloatware and telemetry, on a paid operating system. Linux is 0.16GB RAM.
0.16-0.28 GB of RAM, is like good ol' XP x64 Edition, which is based on NT 5.2, which is what 'Server 2003 is based on, IIRC.
when i tested W11 i lost like 10-20 FPS and had Latency problems and found out its like all the security features, just went back to windows 10 and has been flawless, I dunno if these tests were done with all the Security features turned on or off but holy hell W11 with them on is awful.
Will upgrade to 11 when 10 is no longer getting updates.
@@leothehuman_9476it's because when exploits are released for windows 10 by hackers it will no longer be patched.
I guess he has HVCI enabled on windows 11 as it is enabled by default and that can cause 5-10% lower FPS than windows 10.
@@wtf17727 depending on the win 10 iso version he installed it might also be enabled there
If you disable virtualization on uefi then hvci is disable on Windows 11.
I'd like to see this same video with using new vs older hardware
I think the most concerning point is that more system resources are being used in Windows 11 to get the same job done.
Thanks, you gave me the awnsers I needed
If you have a CPU available, i've heard that w11 does noticeably better then w10 when using Intel's BIGlittle cpu's, maybe something to test out?
I can confirm this. Upgrade to a new system with i7 13700k and changed from W10 to W11 just yesterday. Still got the rx 5700xt and in Forza Horizon 5 and RDR2 for example i can say that there is a noticable differenz by around 5 FPS more on W11. Noted everything before because i wanted to test it out by myself. Lets see how it is on other games :)
Congrats on 500K subs!
ive done clean and upgrade method for windows 11 and my benchmark scores were lower than 10 with the same hardware.
Smoooth! (Windows 11's graphics and/or video seems to be smoother than Windows 10.) I love smooth graphics. ^^
TLDR: No significant FPS loss between W10/W11. I still use Win 7 because I’m stubborn and don’t wanna upgrade
steams gonna stop supporting win7 around january 2024, so you might wanna rethink that lol
linux isn't that bad... if you know how to use it at least. might update to it when windows 10 fully losses support as i refuse to switch to win11
@@juanpiss 🙄
Windows 7 will not be supported anymore by Steam starting 2024
There is literally zero reason to keep using windows 7 over something like windows 10 in current year, honestly a stupid move to even keep using it.
Official, almost no bloatware, etc
only downside is that you don't have the Microsoft store by default (What a shame, right? (for those that for some reason use the mss))
I use LTSC too but on my old laptop it's a different story: I can feel some gaming performance difference coming from Windows 7, but most importantly I also had a lot of issues and bugs due to my rare old hardware:
intel i5 2430m (intel HD 3000)
Radeon HD 6470m.
This shit took me days of searching and I only discovered that was the reason by pure luck:
The game crashed when opening because my intel gpu wasn't supported, but with no error message at all so I still didn't even know about the Windows graphics settings problem.
@@leothehuman_9476 I mean, you have to admit your case is impressively specifc
You should try pushing windows 11 on the unsupported hp xeon system and see if there are major dips with a older cpu then. 😅
Could you try the same thing but with lower end hardware? Like an I7 4790k and gtx 1060 for example (my hardware basically lol). I'm thinking about installing windows 11 (bypassing the stupid requirements) if it runs fine.
I don't reccomend in older hardware to install windows 11 because you loose performance and security
@@godhalo8582 So 11 will be less safe than 10, k, that confirms my distrust of 11
@@HappyBeezerStudios i had windows 11 and defender was almost better than malwarebytes
Same rig as me 😁 though I can't be arsed to swap windows for a tiny increase. Good video though
I stick with Windows 10 as long as necessary. :D
I really don't like Windows 11 and the microsoft account you will need if you are not bypassing it..
A friend of mine had a lot of problems with his AMD processor when win11 came out, i wonder if the problem is still present or fixed.
That was only a nasty bug with 21H2. And it was already addressed in a Windows update, at least probably 360 days ago.
Windows 11 was the final push for me to use Linux on all systems.
Also a good choice 😁
I'm not sure why that'd be the case? 10 will work until 2025, there was no reason to immediately switch
I barely have any (hope)
lmao cope seethe
oh and i forgot MALDING HARD
The answer: of course windows 11 because it's longer supported and of course it supports older versions of directX. If your hardware supports all the features, you should use it. Everything else is a driver issue, which is not windows fault but the fault of the driver's developers.
performance is crippled in w10 above 20h2.
They did it probably so w11 doesn't look that bad.
It is just an assumption tho.
Lemme just point out that there is occuring scheme,
whenever microsoft brings update that makes performance worse,
they talk about meltdown, or spectre.
sometimes it brings different names,
but it's always these two where windows "reacts quickly",
depraving you from your fps in the name of "safety".
you guys regret upgrading to windows 11
look at the performance,, even soft
just keep stay on windows 10 guys !
Windows XP / 7: ok, how about me? 😀
I have a similar configuration as i run Ryzen 5800X3D and a 3060 TI. Just bought a new m.2 drive and I cannot decide if I want windows 10 or 11.. but since you're mentioning the word smooth, it makes me wonder alittle more
