    Congratulations Pierce. You delve into the economic, historical, and political reality of the people of Oaxaca. All the other youtubers I've watched basically ignore the people and their lives aside from how it affects them as tourists. Even the expat videos ignore their neighbors and hosts. You were brought up right, if you'll permit me to say, as an old man.

    If you want to see militarized police, go to Brazil. Even private security is heavily armed. When an armored truck delivering or picking up valuables from a bank pulls up it is like a military operation. First one heavily armed "soldier" comes out, checks out the situation, then gives a signal that another can come out with the cash for the bank. I witnessed these military-style operations quite frequently outside my bank in Brasilia, the capital. You also only enter a bank after placing any metal objects you might carry into a scanner.

    A good video and unique in that you are trying to inform the general public a little about Mexican history. Most videos don't care about the history. Just a small correction: Benito Juarez was the first President of indigenous origin. The first President of Mexico was Guadalupe Victoria in 1825. Juarez came much later and was the 28th President of the country in 1858 until his death in 1872.

    Thoroughly enjoyed your video as it was very informative. I plan to visit Oaxaca in March and know that I must take a covid test prior to my returning to the states. Do you have any information
    as to where in Oaxaca city I can get tested?

      Depending on where you’re at in the states, you can fly to a northern Mexican airport and walk across. We live in San Diego and fly out of Tijuana. It’s great and cheaper! No covid test required to come back.

      @TalesFromTheRoad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s so cheap. I’m not sure where you’re from but it’s dirt cheap in this part of Mexico. Even if the prices may be higher it’s not even close to expensive

    • @susanasher221
      @susanasher221 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was Tangerine Travels that said that. They stay in Air B&Bs and tend to eat in tourist places. If you stick to the local places, it's not expensive at all. For example, for about $3, you can get an all you can eat buffet in a couple of different parts of town. Not the most exquisite food, but quite good. Actually, some of my worst meals here have been in the fanciest restaurants. The street food can be great.
