- Caught this and another groundhog (a.k.a. woodchuck) after they had been eating our crops (mainly cabbages and apples) and released them. I wasn't agitating it, but it made some threatening calls (or help calls) and even tried to attack me through the cage! It caught me off guard...and the cat is sweet. The only reason she went near the cage was because she wanted to get my attention to pet her, not to agitate the groundhog.

Best thing to do is just put the trap in your vehicle, get to release location and open the door. Your just stressing the animal hanging around looking at it. Its already stressed being in the trap. Take a picture and move on.
He clearly doesn't give a shit about that and is fine abusing animals lol

What did you bait the trap with? Who do you call to take it away? Animal control said they don't do groundhogs in my area. We have a feral cat den and a groundhog. Especially after this, I'm kinda scared of live trapping a groundhog.
I just caught one and was concerned about the release. My trap had a rear door that was a little tricky. I put a long pull wire on it and rehearsed the release (before trapping). My landscaper stopped by and for a fee re- located him. Said it was no issue. This one was afraid of the cat.
You are far more at risk from the feral cats than the groundhog. Feral cats attack with no reason. But unless cornered and attacked, the groundhog will just run away.

it's decent to try relocation of the native wildlife ,as they were here long before humans came along-instead of taking their lives as though human convenience is more important than their existence. it's different with invasive species such as domestic cats, which destroy huge numbers of wildlife-33 wild bird species extinct already and 3 billion wild mammals killed yearly just for these cats "sport".

we have one under our shed we are trying to trap it but nothing works i think its been trapped before and turned loose in a woods not far from us...we have blocked its entrances under the shed but cant find the main entrance outside....if we cant get it trapped our last option is a 22 rifle and i dont want to take that drastic measure yet...any suggestions?

I just let my dogs rip them apart. The winner is the one with the biggest piece. It does not depend on size but where they grab it. The 130 lb. dog grabbed a hind leg and the 100 lb. dog grabbed the neck. The big dog pulled the hind leg off and got mostly skin. One good thing about woodchucks is they did their own graves

I saw 2 of the neighbors GSD's rip one apart when it ran into the garage while my neighbor was working on a tractor in there. Dogs were protecting their territory and their master, but it was a wicked sight.

Tie a rope to the cage and throw it in a pond for 10 minutes! Sorry, i love animals and tried moving these guys miles away and spray painted an orange stripe down their backs. Non ever returned but the next day. I had more. After 2 of my horses injured themselves, along with thousands of vet bills. One animal breed had to go and it wasn't my horses. If their left in a trap for a few hours after caught. You probably won't catch another. Their smart!

Why not just open the trap asap instead of stressing the animal? The trap should have been covered to begin with. Are you trapping cats to tnr or were specifically going after the groundhog,? I hope you educate yourself. No need to stress any animal
