  • If you want a genuinely cheap new hot hatch, the Suzuki Swift Sport is more or less in a class of one. There's a reason why car magazines love this car: it's small, lightweight, and feels like a real old-school hot hatch. It'll be replaced next year, so let's wave a cheery goodbye.

    I've had my sport 9 months now, cracking little pocket rocket, take it round the country lanes and it handles superbly, even though it isn't the quickest, it still feels very nippy and acceleration is very good, take it past 4,000rpm and this car comes alive
    Smile on my face every time I drive my sport recommend to anyone and good video summed it up perfectly!

    I just sold my Swift Sport and "upgraded" to a Nisan SSS pulsar turbo since I now have a son and need more room. I tell you, I miss my Suzie so much and I hate my new car compared to what I had.

    I can vouch for the lack of soundproofing in the car. I park it in my car port and I can clearly hear the radio from inside the house. The car's doors and and windows are closed. The dash buzzes over local coarse chip roads. But I don't care - it's brilliant, because it's so simple.

    I've owned one of these for 6 months now. Whilst still not mega fast against the plethora of turbo hatches these days. The Swift Sport is renowned to be quicker than Suzuki's book figures. But, I agree. It's all about the drive. The chassis is so good, and the car so light... that on the average U.K. back road it can show far more expensive and faster metal a clean pair of heels. Epic little car.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! Feels cheaper than others but it is cheaper, and it's not always about speed. Brilliant little car.

      Lol yup. On a couple of occasions "faster" cars have overtaken mine on the straights, only to get in my way and slow me down once we hit the twisty bits.

    Nice Video well done! It is indeed a fun car.
    I drive an RS meganne and the wife has a swift sport. I honestly prefer driving her car around town its alot of fun handles so well and is very nippy. 0-60 times mean nothing these days it's all about the drive and this car drives so well. I think with regards to the Ting Ting noise from the rain it feels a bit like a 90's honda, thin metal on the roof but that's probably how they've kept the weight down to improve the handling.
    Bottom line is these are fantastic cars.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn't have put it better Nic! Fantastic car, and that's quite a compliment considering how good the RS Megane is. It's simple and all the better for it. Thanks for watching and thanks for the positive feedback!

    Your mic and the moving on road camera were a bit annoying but generally a good review. I love the car! I think it is the most value for money car you could buy out there. Looking forward to a review of the new toyota yaris grmn and the new suzuki swift sport when they will come out.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Bob. Annoyingly we had a mic failure, hence the sound issues you can hear. It's annoying but these things happen from time to time. And the road was particularly bumpy! But thank you. We'll be driving the next Swift Sport when it comes out for sure, and the Yaris is on the hit list too... SW

    I didn't think too much of this car either ... until I drove one. If they were more powerful I don't think they'd be nearly as much fun. You really have to engage with the car to get the most out of them. Working up and down through the gears, the way it sticks to the road and entices you to push it hard through the corners, and the fact that you can put your foot down regularly without too much fear of losing your licence all combine to deliver an honest and fun driving experience. Besides that, they're incredibly reliable and not unreasonable on gas.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed! They're not about outright speed and power, they're about using and engaging with the power you've got and enjoying the chassis! It'll be interesting to drive the new one next year. SW

    Both fun and super reliable . What car ? recently stated that this generation of swift was the most reliable small car .

  • @andyhowlett2231
    @andyhowlett2231 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    According to Auto Express latest spec on this car, it does 0-62 in 9.1 secs. I'm sure that's a lot slower than advertised when it first came out. In fact it's slower than our old 2013 sport which was 8.7 secs.

    Mine has a cold miss from new, Suzuki can't 'find' it. It's has a brief 3 second lag on acceleration, but it handles well, is fun, and scares a few bigger cars. I got it cos it was the closest modern car to driving a worked mini, I mean a real mini, not one of those BMW things.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's weird! Get Suzuki to sort it out! it shouldn't be like that, really. It does handle well, though - it's so light! SW

    I have the regular non-sport, 5 spd manual, version of the swift. Still, it's a great car. I use it as my daily driver. Very nimble and corners really well. The plastics used in the interior doesn't bother me. But what i do want is a 6th gear!

  • @dorkangel1076
    @dorkangel1076 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You use 5th gear? I find when I'm finished with 4th it's already time to drop it into 6th... 😉

  • @jamesmcdonald1889
    @jamesmcdonald1889 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    5th and 6th gear aren't hard to work out and the doors shut like any other car, this is a good review don't get me wrong but that's such a weird thing to say...

      @lawress hall not 100% sure what you’re saying but the build quality of Suzuki is great apart from the fact they use cheap materials. BMW use much more expensive materials so feel better built in my opinion, but perhaps it’s just the materials making the difference

    I have same swift, blue meatllic but 5 door, it is very fun to drive it. But there are 6 things wich I hate it: 1, The revs do not drop during the driving in high revs, If you have feeling for driving you can recognize it, 10% users are able to recognize the non drop revs. In Japan is possible remaping the ECU. 2, Front passenger window is not automatic, you must hold the button, 3, Spare tire is missing, I bought the 17" spare tire because I do not belive in the stupid compressor with glue in bottle. 4, Winter tires 17" 195/45 is impossible to buy. The summer tires are only by 4 manufacturers therefore the price is about 100EUR per 1 pc. 5. If you have model 2014 - present, your car is equipped with stupid TPMS due to stupid EU legislation. If you have the set of winter tires, you have to buy 4pcs sensors 30EUR per 1 pc (lifetime is 4years). I blind the signal light at control panel. 6. The car computer. Also the stupid EU legislation. Why must information about ideal shifting (Ideal is only for stupid EU legislation, the clever driver know what is ideal shifting for car) covering the half of display and is impossible to hide it?
    Generally, this car is perfect for this money, I enjoy each drive to my work. The ESP is possible complete deactivate if you want, this is very good. Also I supose the maintenance costs will low due to common atmospheric engine.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A non-automatic window would drive me crazy... And your other issues are things I wouldn't have learnt from my short time with the car. But so long as you enjoy driving it, that's all that matters! It's a cracking little car. Look forward to seeing the next Swift Sport! SW

      I too got a spare wheel but where the hell do you put the thing? The only place i could get it to fit was behind the passenger seat in the footwell.

    • @dinoo3
      @dinoo3 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The boot carpet and compressor set take out, than you will have the space for 17 inches spare wheel, but unpressurized. Therefore i have high quality german pedal car pump Heyner with well pressure gauge as well. With this pump i check and fill the each wheel. My spare wheel is in cover with zip and inside you can put other things.

      For the winter tyre issue, you can put 17 205/45s on this car. It's only 1cm wider and generally you have a couple cm to play with in tyre sizing. Alot of drivers chuck on Pilot Sport 4's, which comes in that size and above.

  • @RNGJack1

    sorry but I have to disagree, if you can't work out 5th gear to 6th then that's to the driver? doors not shutting because you're not closing it. And I can never feel the engine rocking when I'm idling in traffic. this is a great car but don't race it, you can literally see the fuel gauge dropping. apart from that. good video!

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On the car I drove, fifth through to sixth gear wasn't always easy - the gearbox was obstructive and vague. I get what you mean about the doors, but it always felt like it needed way too much force than a car door would normally! And in this car the engine rocked at idle. Perhaps it was just this car, but I thought it needed mentioning. Glad you liked the video though. Thanks for the comment! SW

      Myriad Games that's because the tank is 42L on track I get 13L/100k so I get 5 sessions in and still able to drive home around 90ks for just more then half a tank used

    Had this car for a year, loved it but hated its fuel economy. I never managed more than 280 miles to a tank. And if you ever use the motorway you could literally watch the needle drop. So as fun as it was I had to sell it for a diesel.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      At least it had a sixth gear though. Without that, fuel economy would be even worse!

    • @ridingwithsam
      @ridingwithsam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      H i No that’s driving it economically. Unfortunately even in 6th it sits at over 3k whilst cruising. Still great fun though and still regret selling it to this day

    • @ridingwithsam
      @ridingwithsam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      H i It was 5 years ago so unfortunately I can’t remember haha. If you’re really sensible you could get 360 miles but that’s no fun what so ever. 44mpg is achievable

    • @ridingwithsam
      @ridingwithsam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      H i Absolutely mate, it’s just like an oversized go kart! Like I say, I still regret selling it 5 years on, that shows how good of a car it is, never should sold it. Was just the wrong car at the wrong time in my life.
      Yes mate, you too!

      I find it pointless when people talk about how many miles they get to a tank. Cars have all different size tanks, so it's not comparable. 🤷‍♂️
