    The "express review" format fits the Swift Sport so well because nothing goes wrong. It wouldn't work for something like a Jeep or a VW as there's no way you can condense the "What Goes Wrong?" section into under 10 minutes.

    I've got the ZC33s (the 1.4T model) and its an absolute hoot to drive around. Lots of power and astonishing mechanical grip. Been really reliable as well. Just feels like a quality bang for buck product that I'm proud to own. Its not something that gets a lot of street cred and most people aren't too curious about it. But once you're inside, you get what its all about.

    I'm really glad older versions of cars you already did are an option. Even if it's a quicker video I just like knowing what all cars are like within the same family. (Even just all cars in general)
    I watch this less as a buyer's guide (for now) and more of just an info grab on cars I've never driven or may not get to drive.
    I just like knowing things lol. Will consume whatever new piece of knowledge you put in my subscription feed.

    I had a 2008 swift sport before I got my 2016 fiesta st and I flogged the living piss out of it 24/7 for a good 8 years straight and it never skipped a beat and all I did to it was have it regularly serviced. I used to take mine rallying up the mountain and everything, handles really well on dirt surprisingly. Great cars and very underrated BUT after getting the Fiesta ST there's no going back, the fiesta ST is just brilliant.

      The only reason I switched cars was because the swift was a total write off, road was washed away and I smashed the catalytic converter, sump and bent up the front end etc but if it wasn't for that accident I would be still driving the swift sport.

    Should you buy one? The answer is definitely yes! I've never owned one but back in the day I had these as loan cars from the dealer & I've driven all the variants in this series. The Swift Sport with the M16A engine & man gearbox is the one to go for. Suzuki like their engines to rev so take-offs can be quick. Handling is fantastic. Highly recommended for L & P plated drivers as a first car. Even with some basic DIY tools you can easily service it yourself. The 2010 onwards car are ok but it misses this generations smile per mile. As talked about in the video, check to see if it's been in an accident. It's also a very cheap car to modify. I agree with the seats as Suzuki seats were never a strong point. If Mum & Dad are considering a good runabout for their teen, this is the one to buy & it'll teach the teen how to drive very confidently.

    The JDM version was also available with a 4-speed automatic, which has much better gearing for motorway use. You can also get a replacement fifth gear for the manual to bring the revs down.

    Great video! I've got a 3rd gen Swift Sport (the current turbo one) but always loved the look of the original. I'll say that the 3rd gen is a good shout too if you want something a bit more modern, although the turbo engine lacks the character of the earlier cars. More than enough power to have fun, and sharp handling as well. It's cheap as anything to run, only complaint is an annoying wastegate rattle/buzz when cold that Suzuki won't do anything to fix.

    I like this sort of filming format. I think the one thing that's missing in these videos would be a real-time 0-100kms test as 90% of the time numbers on paper aren't always correct. Yes I know for a Swift It's not so much of a biggy, but it's for peace of mind for people who are genuinely interested.

    I like both types of review Adam. If you are doing an express review because there is another in depth review on the same or similar car that is great. But not as a stand alone review.

  • @1dameister1
    @1dameister1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Uses chain that will need replacement, because it's not a simplex chain which stretches very easily and because it has a chain the water pump isn't a service part so the owner of the car will most likely know when it's gonna need replaceing when it starts to leak.
    It's a "sporty" car (that's what is advertised) so it means that wheel bearings drive shafts, suspension and so on will wear out quicker then expected when buying second hand.
    The newer model has the 1.4T engine which is a newer and it still doesn't show big problems, but expecting anything modern will break sooner because of all the plastic being used and on top of that it has direct injection which leads to intake valves getting clogged up and will need cleaning around every 20.000 to 50.000 kilometer.

    The only thing I'd do different if I were running your channel is to maybe stay away from reviewing modded cars because most people wouldn't be buying one with the exact mods your test car may have. Other than that, this is still my favorite used car review channel (even though many cars like today's example aren't available in the US where I live).

      Thanks so much for the feedback mate.
      We do, where we can, try to steer clear of modified cars however we don’t have the luxury of being too picky as we feature cars from friends, family and viewers.
      Generally speaking, we try to find a car that’s a good representation of what’s on the used market (not mint condition and not a dog of an example) and if that means the perfect condition car has a few mods, we’ll still go with it.
      Really appreciate you commenting on and critiquing what we do, we love this feedback. - AK

    I owned one of these, great car for some spirited driving. I will say, it's clutch fork failed which is a common issue with this series. After I fixed it I decided it was time for an upgrade and got the Zc33s 1.4 Turbo. Power delivery is better but I preferred the older ones steering feel and handling better. But that's nothing a few mods can't fix

    I bought one for my Wife as I needed a reliable and for the time safe car.
    Compared to the 90's magna this was very safe and was one of the best cars we owned, the only thing it lacked was cruise control.
    Don't buy one that is manual from 2008 and 2009, 5th gear tends to fail...

    I got a ZCS33S after your previous review on the second gen and also loved the first gen one that I used to own. There are minor annoyances with the latest one but it’s so fun to push it around at legal speed. I do agree with other comments that the latest one lost some of its tactile character but it’s still one fun little bugger. It’s more comfortable than the first gen, even though its suspension are tuned stiffer.
    Thanks redriven for helping me with my decision. Hope to see your review on ZCS33S.

    The best little Suzuki with “Sport” in the title is still the OG Ignis Sport with genuine WRC heritage. Older, but smaller, lighter and faster with a great body kit & killer wheels. Pity they’re thin on the ground now.

    • @spewbad
      @spewbad ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've had both ZS31 and Colt Ralliart.
      Swift Sport - best car out of the factory but tuning potential is a lot less. Also feels it is from a newer generation of car than the Colt. 5 speed on the highway is brutal and the amount of plastic bits I've broken is astronomical.
      Colt Ralliart - my God the 1.5t engine is awesome. Stock is ok but best mod I did on it was an intercooler from a BA Falcon XR6T. The larger intercooler fits behind the grill with no mods and all the heat soak problems disappear. The Colt is a car for the modder - stock suspension is too high and soft but sadly as it's not as popular in Australia there isn't much aftermarket support.

    Watch for check engine lights caused by cat converters failing, as the cat's in the headers it's not as easy a fix as you might hope.
    Also if the air con compressor has failed, that's a surprisingly spendy fix (also fairly common).

I want a car that can do it all, and I really want a 4wd/awd this time around, our winters here in finland can be quite rough and getting stuck or slipping all over the place in a fwd/rwd isn’t very fun.

    The sporty reviews are obviously more entertaining, but I'd like to see how the standard versions of these stack up. Now that's going to be a boring misery for you, so what about a video where you compare all the competing cars in this segment in one video? I'd like to see you do a Top Gear-style head-to-head on a group of these cars (not just a list video), and I reckon you'd probably have fun doing it, driving a bunch all in one day. Probably hard to organise though! Maybe through a dealer? ;-)

    In India we generally have a negative perspective about Suzuki`s Safety as they have poor build quality compared to their foreign counterparts, for example the Suzuki Swift sold in Australia has 5-star rating and the one sold in India has only 1-star crash gncap rating. But the swift sells in crazy numbers as it is a cheap and fun car . I have always avoided owning one , even if its fun to drive

For the rest… well… i relly think my miata NA turbo is a 9.5 car and the soez is a 6.5. It s fun if you give it hell. For the rest, i have a noisy steer issue so i think my front suspension upper,mounts needs attention. I also replaced the gear shift cable rubbers since the car didn t want to shift to 6th gear anymore and the rubber under the bonnet was chewing gum and the stick rubber was so brittle is fell apart. But that was it.

Upgraded to the next model and found it to be a little less urgent, but a lot more grown up in terms of practicality. I now have the turbo version and it’s also a great car, though completely different from the last 2 - the low end torque is a massive improvement. The problem? @ Swift Sports don’t have a spare tyre. The space is taken up by the beefed up shocks and the different exhaust system. There should be a kit under the boot floor containing a pump and some goo for inflating a punctured tyre. Having a spare rolling around in the boot is not ideal.

    Has anyone gotten a Suzuki Baleno, any issues or anything? I test drove a brand new one a few years ago and thought it was even better than the swift. Still tempted to get one

      Track down an early GLX Turbo I reckon. Dunno about better than the Swift, they’ve got a lot in common. They cheapened the range to become their entry level later in life.

    I've had a few of these as shop runabouts in different specs and trims. Unkillable (if that's even a word), The 'Hilux' of the pizza world.

      Doubtful that after 200,000 km it has the original shocks, and the fact that the owner takes it to the track, makes me think he has placed some quality shocks into it. Budget on doing the same.

    So it’s as fast as a golf GTI in 1976…leave me out 😴

    • @mattdebyl8806
      @mattdebyl8806 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why? People LOVE the OG GTI. Fast is overrated. 0-100 is WAY overrated.

      If fast is your only parameter of fun then you're missing half the joys of driving out there!
      I had 2 much much faster cars than my Swift Sport and genuinely the Swift was by far the most fun on a twisty road. I used to wet myself laughing in that car

    Definitely a surprise video today but a good one none the less.
    With these express reviews (and regular reviews as well) would you consider adding an EUC (Ease of Use and Confort)score for the interior of the cars? I think it'd be a nice compliment to the TBTL rating.
    The safety features overview after the super fast bit sounded like you were trying to imitate Mr Bean Adam 😂.
    I take it the Swift that was a lemon you were going to buy over your NA MX-5?
    Brilliant video guys and was ideal for an express review without the deep diving as it hit that balance of informative and entertaining for a shorter review.
    Keep up the good work guys and look forward to Friday's video as always 👍.

    please review the golf R32 Mk5 !

    • @mattdebyl8806
      @mattdebyl8806 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds nice. Is a bit fat. Nose heavy. Cool (like all 6 cylinder hatches), but not as much potential as turbo 4s. Timing chains have problems. Everything else, similar to R36 review and most other VAG products. Buy a 130i instead, it’s a far better drivers car. The end.

    The price is still far to high, these are a 10/14 year old car now, and the auto is absolutely rubbish and incredibly expensive to repair or replace on the zc32s my 06 is a great wee car but showing its age at 189000kms like suspension bushes and other consumables needing to be replaced I hope to get another year out of it or at least till aussie 2nd hand prices come down!!!

      It’s a pint sized Golf R based on a Polo platform. More fun than the dull Golf. Little less power too IIRC. Drive one and see if you like it? What goes wrong is going to be the same (more or less) as the R (or S3 for that matter).
