    I’m the dummy that never took the time to sell anything...I’ve been buying most of the knives that have appealed to me for 10-12 years now. On one hand my collection has increased in value...on the other, I no longer need to sharpen another knife as long as I live...lol

    • @dlrmon1
      @dlrmon1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’m still kick’n myself for not getting a Dark Timber OG Grizzly when I have a chance...

      I support this logic 😂 if you've bought like I do you have a serious collection. In 4 years I've amassed close to 400 knives - folders and fixed together

    • @dlrmon1
      @dlrmon1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @GBall_Vision...I am at a point that there’s not many knives out there that interest me anymore. And I’m afraid if I start counting what I have, logic will step in and make me go to work selling most...what fun is that? Lol

    Hey Chris. Thank you for your message at the end of your video. So many people get wrapped up into the game of consumerism, including me from time to time. And, did it make me happy….no. I’m a lot happier knowing I don’t need “ all of the stuff”. It’s easy to get sucked in, tho. Thank for the reminder.
    PS. I’m 54, & I had no idea that I’d be in so much chronic pain at this age. Now I know why bitter old men are so bitter lol.

    AMEN to your “You don’t need to buy a bunch of stuff” comment! It took me 38yrs to finally figure that out and it’s something I still struggle with. So much cool stuff these days. Stop wasting your money on a bunch of stuff…. Set a goal to buy maybe a few knives/firearms a year and you’re good. Well said Chris!

    My absolutely favorite EDC fixed blade is the TRC South Pole. I own four South Pole, the old version with screwed handle scales (Elmax) , the Apo Finish (Elmax), the 10th Anniversary (M390) and the V4E DLC (Vanadis 4 Extra). The old version has a secondary convex edge (I have reprofiling the edge). The TRC South Pole is in my opinion a outstanding knife.

    Happy birthday! You have some nice knives there. I gave my mid-sized knife to a friend who didn't have a decent camp knife, it was a Condor Bushlore w/micarta scales and a custom kydex sheath with built-in tinder tin and ferro rod & holder. Now I am down to just a couple of larger knives, an ESSEE 6P w/G10 3D contoured scales and a KABAR 5011, not including my gutting, skinning, fillet and neck knives. Now that I'm thinking about it, I might need a new mid-sized knife...

    You're absolutely right about life in the beautiful struggle.
    There's always going to be stuff. You you have and stuff you can't afford and stuff you'll never need but want and it's up to the individual to decide where that particular line is drawn.
    The next unobtainium steel knife will always be around the corner. You may not be. Enjoy the time you have here.
    It's way too short not too ❤🙏🏼

    You can make those Jackelope scales any color you want with RIT dye.

    • @strongbear9304
      @strongbear9304 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And actually if you can’t find the exact color that you want, find a roll of crepe paper in the color you want, use some warm (or hot water) put the scales IN A STAINLESS STEEL BOWL (or a glass one) with the roll of crepe paper and gently pour the hot water over it, stir gently and let it set. Check it periodically for the right color and maybe just a shade darker. Remember to stir the scales and mixture periodically and possibly even turning the scales over so as not for them coming out unevenly. I’m an American Indian craftsman and artist and when I can’t find the right color dye, I use this method to dye bone and porcupine quills for my craftwork. Be sure to wash the scales with some Dawn dish soap first to degrease them first and dry them off.

    I agree that there is more to life than owning the most knives. I have about 15 fixed blades but find that I use the same one(s) over and over. I love my Tops BOB and it does what I need it to do. I think most people would be better off with a mid sized fixed blade that they can control. I have nothing against a Bowie sized knife, but it isn't the best for me. Only when chopping do I want the bigger knife. Thanks for another great video and Happy Birthday!

    One thing I really agree with you on: you don't need that fancy $450 supersteel knife. Our ancestors conquered the western frontier with knives that were probably inferior to whatever's in your kitchen drawer. Improve your skills with the gear you HAVE. Whats in your head is infinitely more valuable than whats on your belt. ✌🏼

    • @dlrmon1
      @dlrmon1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I agree with you’re assessment, many of our ancestors died. If you had to make the similar pilgrimage, would you want to upgrade to Civil War gear, or even WW1 or WW2 gear, or maybe go with the modern gear of today? Just Say’n

    • @jimbusmaximus4624
      @jimbusmaximus4624 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@dlrmon1 I think you missed my point. I wasn't arguing to use old knives, I was stating the fact that your skills are more important than the cost of your gear. Expensive gear is useless if you don't know what you're doing.

    • @dlrmon1
      @dlrmon1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A Nessmuk style knife in scandi is just silly. They're novelties. The Nessmuk design is for skinning game and no, scandi is not nearly as good as a flat grind for skinning. They basically just keep making new designs up to appeal to people who don't know better. Honestly, not one knife in that lineup I'd consider worth buying.

      😆 It has NOTHING to do with a Nessmuk. At all. Ever. If you knew the design history of that knife, it's based on an *ULU* formed into a Bushcraft blade. "Jessmuk" is a funny name a viewer came up with that is a play on "Nessmuk" because of the backstory gag with the Jessica name. I think I would know given the fact that A) It's my own original design; and B) I friggin' hate Nessmuks.
      So point of fact; there was NEVER in the history of EVER a scandi bushcrafter based on an ULU with the symmetrical sweep blade. Nor has anyone ever produced evidence of there being one in the ten years the design has existed. Why would I copy a shitty skinning knife from a bygone era? I don't hunt. There's TONS of videos on the Jessmuk design praising that sweep's function in bushcrafting tasks and zero saying it sucks. You're getting all indignant over a non-existent issue based on a knife name that's simply an inside joke. 😆

      The inspiration for the Jessmuk came from the blade sweep of the Blade-Tech ULU *FOLDER*. Which is about the most "Not-A-Nessmuk" knife there is. All of which was explained in the very first video back in 2014.

      @@preparedmind101 Sure, you keep saying that. It's bullshit. You hate the Nessmuk, so you designed a knife that looks VERY similar to it? The belly is basically identical save the scandi grind. The hump is more pointed instead of curved, but still extremely reminiscent. You put that Jessmuk in front of literally anyone other than you and they'll say it's basically a Nessmuk. Their profile side by sides are, for all intents and purposes, extremely similar. You only look stupid trying to deny that when Stevie Wonder can see you copied the design and put a scandi on it.

    Hello Chris. I cannot see the metal you have around your neck, but it actually looks like a Saint Benedict medal. I'm just curious if that's what it is and if not could you explain it?
