Hey Chris. Thank you for your message at the end of your video. So many people get wrapped up into the game of consumerism, including me from time to time. And, did it make me happy….no. I’m a lot happier knowing I don’t need “ all of the stuff”. It’s easy to get sucked in, tho. Thank for the reminder. PS. I’m 54, & I had no idea that I’d be in so much chronic pain at this age. Now I know why bitter old men are so bitter lol.
AMEN to your “You don’t need to buy a bunch of stuff” comment! It took me 38yrs to finally figure that out and it’s something I still struggle with. So much cool stuff these days. Stop wasting your money on a bunch of stuff…. Set a goal to buy maybe a few knives/firearms a year and you’re good. Well said Chris!
Dude, I gotta say, I'm really enjoying the regular content you're putting out each and every day. It's a great way to cap off an evening with some PM101 wisdom on TH-cam. I went ahead and become a member as a way of saying thanks. Happy Birthday, by the way. May you be gifted something sharp and shiny.
My absolutely favorite EDC fixed blade is the TRC South Pole. I own four South Pole, the old version with screwed handle scales (Elmax) , the Apo Finish (Elmax), the 10th Anniversary (M390) and the V4E DLC (Vanadis 4 Extra). The old version has a secondary convex edge (I have reprofiling the edge). The TRC South Pole is in my opinion a outstanding knife.
Happy birthday! You have some nice knives there. I gave my mid-sized knife to a friend who didn't have a decent camp knife, it was a Condor Bushlore w/micarta scales and a custom kydex sheath with built-in tinder tin and ferro rod & holder. Now I am down to just a couple of larger knives, an ESSEE 6P w/G10 3D contoured scales and a KABAR 5011, not including my gutting, skinning, fillet and neck knives. Now that I'm thinking about it, I might need a new mid-sized knife...
You're absolutely right about life in the beautiful struggle. There's always going to be stuff. You you have and stuff you can't afford and stuff you'll never need but want and it's up to the individual to decide where that particular line is drawn. The next unobtainium steel knife will always be around the corner. You may not be. Enjoy the time you have here. It's way too short not too ❤🙏🏼
And actually if you can’t find the exact color that you want, find a roll of crepe paper in the color you want, use some warm (or hot water) put the scales IN A STAINLESS STEEL BOWL (or a glass one) with the roll of crepe paper and gently pour the hot water over it, stir gently and let it set. Check it periodically for the right color and maybe just a shade darker. Remember to stir the scales and mixture periodically and possibly even turning the scales over so as not for them coming out unevenly. I’m an American Indian craftsman and artist and when I can’t find the right color dye, I use this method to dye bone and porcupine quills for my craftwork. Be sure to wash the scales with some Dawn dish soap first to degrease them first and dry them off.
Have been subbed to the channel for several years, enjoy most of your work, but the message at the end of this vid, truly hits on point! Thank you & God Bless... George ( Los Angeles )
I dont comment much but thanks for all the content you do. You've definitely been a huge impact on my preparedness over the last 10 years. And Happy early Birthday!
When you where talking about the Primitive Bear & the 1st Twit popped up,I almost had to change my shorts! Good vid man. & Great closing talk...for a young guy.
I agree that there is more to life than owning the most knives. I have about 15 fixed blades but find that I use the same one(s) over and over. I love my Tops BOB and it does what I need it to do. I think most people would be better off with a mid sized fixed blade that they can control. I have nothing against a Bowie sized knife, but it isn't the best for me. Only when chopping do I want the bigger knife. Thanks for another great video and Happy Birthday!
What i did on my sheath with ferro holder is i took bungee cord about same size as para cord, run it through ferro handle, tie a loop and hook over holder around the end of ferro rod. Holds tight but very easy to take off.
Well now; thank you for telling me just what I needed to hear. Buried wisdom needs only inspiration to rise. A piece of the world is back where it belongs. 👍🏻
One thing I really agree with you on: you don't need that fancy $450 supersteel knife. Our ancestors conquered the western frontier with knives that were probably inferior to whatever's in your kitchen drawer. Improve your skills with the gear you HAVE. Whats in your head is infinitely more valuable than whats on your belt. ✌🏼
While I agree with you’re assessment, many of our ancestors died. If you had to make the similar pilgrimage, would you want to upgrade to Civil War gear, or even WW1 or WW2 gear, or maybe go with the modern gear of today? Just Say’n
@@dlrmon1 I think you missed my point. I wasn't arguing to use old knives, I was stating the fact that your skills are more important than the cost of your gear. Expensive gear is useless if you don't know what you're doing.
