When I got what you said I almost fell off the chair laughing..."3d printed the save button" lol...because I could actually imagine the young people of today saying that.
Jenny I bought these for my sweet peas also because last year was a disaster. I’m glad I’m not alone. I struggled putting them together at first and was little disappointed they didn’t have a bottom tray but I’m giving it a go. I wish you luck. The things we go through to garden!!😜🌺🌸🌼
I just grow my seeds in tall plastic cups and cut the cup away when the seedlings are ready to transplant. The roots don't need to be handled at all. The beauty of this system is that you can see how the roots are developing through the transparent plastic. I cut the used cups into thin strips when they've done their job and use them as labels for my next batch of seeds.
at 37 i def remember those, i also remember the 5 1/4" floppies, my dad had a whole bunch of those in similar containers haha those were actually floppy
We have a similar seed starting philosophy, just put them in the dirty and nature will do the rest, most seeds will germinate without the extra fuss. Enjoyed the video!
Hey Jenny, if you're up for it, you should put one of those trainers out into the sunshine now and compare it to the ones under lights. You really only need to bring them in if the temps are going below 28 deg. F. as the plants can take some frost.
We do have some colder temps forecasted still... our last frost date isn't until April, and March can still bring hard freezes. But thanks for the info!!!
Botanical Interests has a sweet pea growing guide that tells which of the varieties are heat tolerant and the daylength they prefer. Check the guide to see which variety will last best in your individual environments. I'm in zone 7 and we tend to get warm a lot sooner these days, so i chose a variety that's heat tolerant and heavily scented - Perfume Delight. I also started them a couple of weeks ago so that they will have enough cool temps to get to blooming stage. I also found one TH-camr that said to put the sweet peas into the sunshine as soon as they germinate. Other lights just aren't strong enough which is why they get stretchy.
My first time trying sweet peas and trying the winter sow method. I put them water bottles so they would have individual containers and depth for roots hoping it will work similar to root trainers. Im zone 4b so it will be a while before I will see anything. Hope it works because I didnt save any to start any other way eek!
Love using the root trainers! I have more to add to my collection for this season of growing my sweet peas!! It's a bit to early here for me to start just yet so I will have to live vicariously through you for now Jenny!! They are a bit delicate but I think that is what helps with the ease of use. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Hi Jenny could you inc how to use the plastic bags over a pot on one of your seeding shows please. It’s very simple I know but I have a simple brain 🤪 and you have inspired me to have a go trying seeds. Thanks 🥰
Hi Jenny. Good luck this year on your growing your sweet peas ... so far the germination looks great. I have tried growing sweet peas in the past without luck. I started Verbena Bonarienis weeks ago and they still haven't germinated either. Will you be using your mini greenhouse outside this year?
Not going to use that this year because the plastic has really been torn apart too much by falling limbs, etc. Might get another if I find a good price, but we'll see.
I was going to grow my sweet peas in a container with an obelisk on my deck this year. I've never grown sweet peas either. I was going to direct them. Any suggestions? Bonny
The term "root trainers" gives me the giggles. Do they need gym memberships? It's a cold, gray day, but this may be our last freeze warning of the season, so I'm giddy with anticipation of warmer weather and gardening outside. - - Kay

Hope yours work better for you this year!
I ordered some plants a couple of years ago and they were delivered in these trays and they are amazing, I grow my Rudbeckia and zinnias in them 🌸🦋🌸
Wonderful!

Good tips, thanks!
Great idea . I Know how to make use of old disk holders. Don’t have to buy photo containers now. Thanks
You’re welcome 😊
i really like that you wrote the year on the package with a sharpie! What a great idea to keep track of my ever-growing seed collection!!!!
Glad it was helpful!

I'll try to remember... I don't normally do it that way. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden thanks Jenny much appreciated 🥰
I hear they germinate better at 50 degrees and can handle a low as low as 20 degrees.
I germinated min in the garage, so they did pretty well with temp. :-)
Have you tried Black Gold soil? It is great!
I haven't seen it for sale in my area yet.

@@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden In case you didn’t already know, you can buy replacement plastic covers on Amazon.
Hi, what zone are you in and what is your last frost date. Must be higher than me, I'm 6b.
Zone 7, average last frost date is Apr 11.
I was going to grow my sweet peas in a container with an obelisk on my deck this year. I've never grown sweet peas either. I was going to direct them. Any suggestions? Bonny
Hm, no idea, sorry... I'm a sweet pea novice!
I never have luck with sweet peas! 😫
I'm hoping I can get the knack of it this year.
