    Awesome video as someone who just purchased an RT82 and wanted to see what the upgrade process was like. Also I have to say I love the way you put your videos together. You're very engaging, informative and fun to watch! Keep it up man.

    You upgraded the OM10 to a red instead of a blue? The red is like a side-grade, barely an upgrade from the OM10. I mean that RT82 table is kind of a joke- I should know I bought one when my Audio Technica crapped out and I had no money for something more expensive- they really screwed consumers over by giving them a turntable you're being forced to use only Ortofon carts for, its ridiculous. Then they'll give you the runaround on their tech support about stuff like the Nagoaka Mp-110 working on their table or not *spoilers it has no issues but according to Fluance its incompatible with the fixed VTA since they don't allow you to adjust that at all either* Its actually ridiculous. I'm stuck either buying a 250 USD cart (the Ortofone blue) or finding somebody who has had luck with mounting something else. Fluance makes some good turntables, but that sort of bait and switch stuff is why I'd never buy from them again.

    Paul what was the overhang adjustment on that head shell for the Ortofon 2m red because i have the same turntable as you have! Thanks if you can help!

    Really interesting video, I was just wondering, did you do a sound comparison between the aluminium platter with the Red, and the acrylic platter with the Red ?

      Great question, and before I answer, let me qualify my answer by telling you about myself - I'm no audiophile. I like what I like. Now for my answer, no. I just liked the look and the fact this would be very flat and not need a slip cover. There is no way I could tell a difference in audio quality - As to the red, I do love its sound and actually think I can hear a real difference.

      @@pauly7218 Thanks for your reply, that's really useful info regarding the platters and the Red, have you tried the 2M blue ? sorry to be so questionable, but I am intending to buy either the rt83 or 84, the 83 having the Red without the Acrylic platter, and the 84 having the 2M Blue, I've heard that the Blue is a little on the bright side, but very detailed, I tend to like a warmish sound, so do you think the Red is better in that regard rather than the Blue ? This will determine which turntable I will buy ! Thanks.

    Paul, yeah, you've done it, i.e. detailing/showing the upgrade of the RT82 to your hybrid RT83.5 (more likely an RT83.75), something no other TH-camr has done, or ever shown the slightest interest in doing.
    I also appreciate that your turntables and their upgrades are grounded in the realms of affordability, and do not shoot off into the "flights of fancy" of high end equipment only the wealthy/high earners can hope to own. Something that most TH-cam Hi-Fi reviewers are painfully guilty of doing.
    So my simple question is this, where can you take your upgrades to your turntable next? Maybe an Ortofon 2M Blue or even the Nagoaka MP110, both considered to be very good cartridges but with their own unique flavours.
    Still, wherever your Hi-Fi journey takes you I would like to continue to watch your progress.

      Bob, I'm glad there is value in these videos for you, and frankly, I love my set up. FYI, I just filmed a new video featuring my RT81. Stay tuned!!!

    Paul - whenever I see something like this I am reminded of a record I inherited from my dad on which < Flanders and Swann > describe their encounter with < High Fidelity > aka < Song of Reproduction >
    "Still it ought to please any passing bat".
    Still if it makes you happy, and clearly it does? Have fun in beautiful Las Vegas.

    Paul did you get my question I asked you on this video? Do you know the overhang for this cartridge and where it should be mounted? I did mount mine and I do believe it's correct! It's playing well and I don't know if you noticed that this cartridge is a little sensitive to sibilance that is when you here the singer says words with the letter S'S! I have noticed in mine let me know if you have! Thanks!

    • @pauly7218
      @pauly7218  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I missed it. In answer to your question, as far as I understand it, if you use the protractor in the manual you reall don't need to worry about overhang. In the end, I love my cartridge and no I hadn't noticed any issues. I have even heard people complain about it being gravely at the high end, but I hadn't noticed any of that.

    Thank you Paul, this is a detailed thought through set up for RT upgrades. This week I received the acrylic platter for my RT83 and your video helped me to install the new platter. Right on man. Cheers! 🥂

    I’ve got the rt82 and all I’ve upgraded so far is the platter. I just love the design of the om10 too much to upgrade. But I definitely have to check when I get home if I put the platter on upside down. XD

    Great video Paul! I’m looking at the 82 and have learned a lot from your videos. What’s that center piece you out on the record before you start playing it? I’m completely brand new to turn tables. Thanks!

      It's just a Record Weight. There are a ton on Amazon. Check my store fro the one I use. It helps keep vinyl nice and flat on the platter.... Great to have! www.amazon.com/shop/paulyoudelis

    Slipping an OM 20 stylus on original cartridge would be easy and a major improvement. I think the Om10 sounds like a toy . I would give mine away to someone I don’t like very well. Great video, sir!

    So red or blue? Still working on phono for my NEW rt82. Now I have even more to consider. I second a previous comment by saying thanks for keeping realistic in reviews and revenue, just want the best analog I can afford. Still, don't know where that leads me first, new phono for om10, or going red, ...or blue? If Nagaoka jumps in I will be torn between further achievable results, or just enjoying whatever I end up deciding on. Also the acrylic looks great but going to have to get in line😉
    Thankyou for the lovely presentation and information.

    I added a 4mm thick rubber platter matt so I could run my vintage, (1978/79), Audiotechnica LS 500 and my AT14SA's on my RT 82, worked great. I have a few different thickness matts since I like to change out cartridges and there is no adjustment on the tone arm. Fantastic table! I replaced my 1979 Technics Q3 with it as my tonearm on the Technics needs to be re-wired... not even worried about fixing it since I got the Fluance.

  • @johnnytoobad7785
    @johnnytoobad7785 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would scrap the acrylic "upgrade", just replace the mat and use a record clamp. Different mats of varying thickness will give you proper VTA for other head shell / cartridge combos. For the cart I am using a LP-Gear Vessel with a 7gr OEM (imitation) SME head shell. I had to add a 2g weight to the headshell since that headshell was bought as a pair, for my main Thornes / SME table. The RT-82 is just for digitizing vinyl. The one problem I have with this table is that there is very little clearance between the curved horiz. cuing rest and the tonearm when its playing a record. I had to adjust the little cuing screw on mine and the lack of clearance is still scary. So when you get tired of the "red" and upgrade to the "blue" you'll have a RT-85.

      Johnny, sounds like you really have some knowledge on turntables so, thanks for sharing some comments. I sure have thought about the Ortofon Blue, and now you really have me on edge!!! Thanks!

      @@pauly7218 LP Gear sells a pre-mounted version of the Vessel cart (with head-shell) specifically pre-aligned for the RT tables for $160.00. Many purists like its sound better than the Ort-2m carts. The cart itself is just $99.00. Has upgradable styli also. Best mat for RT-82 is solid silicon rubber. Acrylic (hard) mats will pass any/all motor/vibration noise right to record. Ridged rubber mats create resonance cavities (drums) just below the playing surface. A record clamp will help add weight to stabilize speed variations due to light platter. Cork&rubber combination mats over a heavy platter is the ideal choice (IMHO).

    I wonder what a Ortofon Stylus 20 would have sounded like...a lot easier to swap on the RT82 as it uses the same headshell

    The RT’s servo motor monitors & adjusts speed constantly so the heavier acrylic platter may make the job easier but there should be no difference in speed consistency.

    • @MJHiteshew
      @MJHiteshew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fluance state an improvement in speed consistency when comparing the RT82 with the RT85, going from .13% to .10%.
