    There has been a change for 2019, seems they now only offer the vinyl platter on the RT85 and the RT84 now comes with the 2MBlue instead of the Red. So only the most expensive model has the acrylic platter. I suspect the availability of the acrylic platter was the problem. Also, the cartridge makes more of a sonic difference than the turntable platter, so upgrading that first makes more sense.

    • @AaronMal1978

      If you want the acrylic platter, makes sense to just get the RT85 from a cost perspective.

    Had the 82 for a while and ended up selling it because of the hum that was caused by the built in pre-amp. Even turned off and properly grounded, I still got a very audible hum. This would seem to correct that issue. I loved the look of the 82, but hated the built in pre-amp. I'm glad they've done this. I just ordered the RT85. I look forward to giving it a try.

    Wondering where the "eye" (speed detection) occurs. If on/at the motor, I'd be concerned that belt slippage (even ever so slight) could still be a factor in maintaining consistent platter speed. If under, or in some way associated with the platter, then I'd be all for it. Having said that though, I hate belt driven things in any application. 😃

    • @kevingoodwin5177
      @kevingoodwin5177 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Belt slippage is rather rare. It is easy to change the belt if it should ever be an issue. The best turntables are usually belt driven to separate the motor from the platter. Fewer vibrations make it to the platter.

    Excellent information, thank you for the video. I love the look and what I have seen of the Fluance RT85 and will be purchasing one in the next few weeks when I return home to Canada. Also, I love the flag on the products, Maple Leaf Forever guys! On a side note, I would reshoot this video with the cameraman being a step or two back from the subjects so their hands are in frame while they speak. Also, because the man in the darker shirt is shorter he should stand on a short box to bring the head levels more closely in balance. Also, he should raise his hands up to his sternum and away from his crotch while speaking so as not to give the wrong idea about what is going on. LoL Other than that thank you for this video!

    Fluance, Is the tonearm height the same between the RT81 and the Reference series turntables or do they use different headshells? Your documentation states the Ortofon 2M cartridges require a different counterweight, and VTA may vary when upgrading. It appears that an Ortofon headshell may solve both the weight and Vertical Tracking Angle issues. Would be nice to be able to swap Audio Technica and Ortofon headshell combinations.

  • @grahamevans9606
    @grahamevans9606 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    From what I know, and have read, the OM 10 is basically the same as the 2M Red. The only difference is the shape.
    The M series is just the newer version of the old.....
    Having said that, you get to choose what shape you like...and I prefer the ant eater slender OM series to the bulkier plough of the M series.
    Nice turntables tho....can we get them in the UK soon?
    Was thinking of the RT 80 (prefer the piano black over the Mahogany RT 81) but only available thru Amazon.UK...and a lot more expensive.
    The entry level AT carts would be replaced with a OM 10.
    So....the RT 82 would be my first choice.

      @FluanceSpeakers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question Neil, Thanks for your interest!
      Our turntables do not currently support 78 RPM playback. The selector offers 33 and 45 options. An important factor to keep in mind is that 78 RPM records are typically made using shellac and can wear a standard stylus down much quicker than playing on vinyl. Most 78 compatible turntables use a specialized stylus.

      @richardmorgan1588 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I understand the argument for belt drives, I have used direct drive turntables since I started buying magnetic cartridge decks... usually Technics. My current deck is an SL1200 running the Blue and it’s wonderful. It has better “wow and flutter” numbers than most modern tables in it’s price range (better than the Fluance) and the best record playback system I’ve ever owned. I’m using a 200 plus WPC Parasound system paired with Polk Audio RTi A3’s and an Onkyo sub. I honestly can’t imagine how any upgrade would significantly improve the quality of the sound I get from this setup in the space I have it set up in. Though these components were accumulated over time, this isn’t a terribly expensive setup! I literally found everything on eBay and Amazon! Most people who visit me and hear records on this system are in disbelief that they are hearing a rock being drug along a plastic grove! You really don’t have to take out a mortgage on your home or go into debt for 10’s of thousands of dollars to get a truly incredible sounding record playback system! Though I obviously prefer direct drive, especially Technics vintage decks, I have no doubt that this Flunace deck is a solid choice which will also sound amazing!
