You two are very hard workers, and I am impressed with your attitudes and how you work together. Imagine how many tons of parts and equipment and BOATS you have kept out of landfill! Great Job on fixing the layers around the Ports!! All your work looks great. Here is a hint on saving Paint in Cans. The Lid fits into a Groove in the Can top. Put a small hole in the bottom of that groove. Then when the lid is re-inserted the excess paint in the Groove is pushed back into the Can. SAVES FROM A GLUED ON EFFECT to remove the lid next time and actually seals better!

    Hi Stu, I was in the yacht building business for quite a few years, amongst my many experiences I found that the KING of silicones/adhesives is SIKA, yes a little expensive but utterly dependant, never had a fail using Sika, went through some huge storms/waves hitting the windscreens with only Sika bonding w/screens to superstructure and a lot more. I wish you & Marina all the very best❤

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Love Sika 291i
      Use it almost religiously, just not on windows.
      Anything thing that I never plan to take up, deck fittings, winches, cleats etc 291 plus below the waterline.

    • @richardcooper4206
      @richardcooper4206 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the UK, we use CT1 adhesive sealant. As good as sika 291 plus sets under water and half the price. I think Toolstation stock it. Probably some equivalent In Bricolage outlets in France.

    Easiest and least abrasive way to clean/renew aluminium (probably anodised) is using a 'dry' washing up sponge with the green brillo pad side... leaves a polished/new finish regarding the slight surface staining on the older ally windows... carefully of course! Probably already know that... but just in case. Such a great name 'Seabird'... crack on you two... 30k is not far away! 👍

    great step forward. Are u sure the rectangle window is right way up. I thought the joint in frame goes at bottom so any water drains out. not that it should leak , not now . keep on keeping on its hard tokeep going on such long projects don't forget to take the little dingy out and have fun.

    you should put a drop of superglue where the rubber ends meet,when it dries it will pull apart letting water in,its how they seal windows on caravans it seals way longer if it cant pull apart due to shrinkage.

    There would originally have been a compass in the round hole. Once which could be read from the cockpit and from inside. That way someone seated inside could see what course the boat is on. Useful for marking up chart. Seeing the log for distance, a clock for time, and a compass for course. All visible from inside.

      Hiya,
      It was the autopilot head. The rest of the instruments ate in the combing. This must have been done out of ease.
      But it's gone, and all that's left is a few screw holes. Need to match the gelcoat but done have the patience atm for that.

    I have an idea for you. It's probably stupid but hear me out. With that dead space on the wall at the portholes boxing the empty space with sausage sort of works but is expensive. So take an extra 1/8" off the hole to make room , then using a kid's party balloon, and put something on it like wax, silicone lubricant or something that won't mess up the fiberglass.
    Coat the balloon with fiberglass cloth , put it in the porthole and blow up the balloon. Once dry, pop the balloon, removing it entirely, which may leave a 'boxed in' base in the wall to allow you grind the edges off - and leave a fiberglass cap the hole without it falling through into the void between the inner and outer wall.

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not a bad idea.
