How To Crochet A Granny Square Bucket Hat

currently my favourite crochet accessory, this crochet bucket hat is easy and fast to make. If you have scrap yarn and 2 or 3 hrs to spare, made yourself one of these!

I made the hat in teal blue with brown stripes. Used 4mm hook for extra room for my hair. This pattern was easy to follow, took two evenings to finish. I love it! Thank you! 👒💖

How did you adjust the crown of the hat?

I did 72 st. In the crown just take out a row do 6rows. When you do your half double crochet on the top of the squares I just put two half doubles in one stitch to make the count around equal 72.

I have been making granny squares for 55 years and I have never seen it made with 2 chains between the clusters. Or worked on both sides. But I see why now. Interesting and beautiful

You had a total of 84 stitches for the top of the hat and you made the stitches of the granny squares correspond to 84 by doing half double crochets.
My question is, what if I wanted to make for a smaller head size(with stitches fewer than 84 for the top of the hat), how do I get the daisy squares to correspond with whatever number of stitches I have as the top of my hat?

You will have to use a smaller hook size or yarn and tighter stitches to get a smaller size. It’s important that the stitches are the same number.

I used the same size crochet hook. My squares are bigger. I used 4 wosted weight instead of 3 weight wosted. You have 6 squares. I can only use 5. It will be to big.
