Though his family was wealthy and he was highly educated he relinquished all and came to India as a Catholic Priest. In fact Those Jesuit Priests who followed St. Francis Xavier's footstep were tortured and killed in many countries.
St John Britto who came after Francis Xavier to Tamilnadu was tortured and killed by beheading in Sivaganga, Oriyur.
