I sold my Borderless Dockside Extorionist from Double Master 2022 and less than 3 weeks later it was banned out of commander. Sold for $140 Canadian Dollars and then it plummeted. I got lucky
Sold the phlage I pulled from my Prerelease kit to my LGS around release when it was at $40 (got like 30 obv). And now I could get two copies with that same store credit
I pulled a foil and a regular Jeweled Lotus in the same box, and traded the foil for a stack of cards over a year ago, when it was about $200±. On the other hand, I _should_ have sold my foil Japanese Time Warps when they were $170.
Announcements of certain reprints. For example: Edgar Markov is responsible for a few things spiking, like Bloodletter of Aclazotz, and blade of the bloodchief.
It's an interesting conundrum, isn't it? Last night I put together a sell order which included some cards I think have room to grow but are still good value now. My reasoning for doing so? I want to buy some cards on mtgo. I could just buy them out of pocket but I'm not using the cards I am selling and there is no guarantee they will go up. I've found recycling to be the more prudent way to function in the hobby unless you want to dedicate significant time and space to treating cards as investments.
@ I couldn't agree more. I also believe if I make that decision with similar cards (like Sauron) 100 times, it will be the right move a majority of the time. But those few that do t tend to linger and stain for some reason.
WotC generally wont reprint til a price peaks. I sold a couple base 2XM Mana Crypts right before the ban when they were buylisted at $175. If not for the ban, I'd have expected a Master set reprint this year
I have had some really good luck over the years with cards let me tell you a story so when modern herzions 1 or 2 came out I pulled a full art foil Ragavan and for about 3 -4 months I got to play with that Ragavan then I decided man this guy dies really easy in commander and I really wanted a mana Crypt so I traded my Ragavan for a mana crypt and I think I had to pay a bit of money for it as well but I think I got like 180$ of trade value and mana crypt was like 250 $ then I used this mana Crypt for probably like a year and a half and even though i played with it I always felt bad going turn one Crypt so when Lara Croft secret lair came out I really wanted to build her but I needed some of the legendary lands that Lara needs in that commander deck and so i traded my mana crypt before that ban is was like 3-4 months before the ban for some expensive legendary lands. I also bought 4 copies of Primeval titan just before the speculation of unbans became a thing I spent 4$ a copy and those copies were old boarder and if primeval ever does get unbanned then I’ll keep 2 and sell the other 2 and recover my money
every time counterspell is print i bought 12 copie and i just wait to return at good price, the next card in my buylist is blood artist after inistrad remaster
I pulled a Sorin the Mirthless (Castlevania art, foil) and sold it for 200.- It wasn't even a "good" sale since i could have probably sold it for 240.- But now the card is worth 20.- and I feel kinda bad for de dude who bought it ;)
Piece out the really high dollar stuff as long as you don’t lose too much time, and then sell the rest as bulk. If you have the desire, try consolidating by trading out your 3-10$ cards for things that are $20+ as much as you can to make the process easier if you can. That’s my two cents, hope it helps!
You see... you give advice on when people may buy/sell cards based on your experience... I can get behind that... but the moment you say "nothing in this channel is financial advice." why the hell make a video saying "When to Sell Your Magic Cards (Maximize VALUE)"? why give advice about it? hypocrisy...
blaming the consumer that wants to maximize the value of their collection (in an expensive hobby) instead of blaming wizards for bad practice is insane
Cool... More terrible ban takes. I already have 1 and a half foot out the door of MTG, and now my farvorite MTG content creators and drinking the bullshit ban kool-aid. I think it's time to completely go. Adios!
@@JakeandJoelareMagic saying that dockside needed to go when it was the only card in magic that allowed players to catch up when playing behind to players playing Rhystic/ mystic and one of the few cards that punished players for dropping a ton of artifacts is a terrible take. Now if players fall behind they can only hope that other players can stop the person who is ahead and then squeeze in a victory after
Jake, I see by the headband that you were "sweating to the oldies" with Richard Simmons before filming. The music even matches lol
Hahahaha got em!
There is a Mandela effect that richard simmons never wore a headband. Lot of people remember him wearing pink headbands

Im finally quitting mtg. I'm so glad. Now i can afford rent and food
I pulled a foil Sauron, Dark Lord poster from the LOTR, and I thought I was being smart selling it at $125...

This is actually just a reminder to log your collection so you can capitalize on a spike.
When prices spike to tend to sell, esp if the card is just sitting in a binder. ❤❤❤

I'm actually in the middle of getting rid of my collection and can't really decide if just bulk sell it or take the time to piece it out

Unless it's Hare Apparent, it's going to be worthless someday
The title and contents of this video is purely financial advice.
lol that was my first thought, too, when they gave their disclaimer

It’s a meme.
Don't invest in modern. You're welcome.
GREAT VIDEO GUYS THANKS FOR STAYING PAWZITIVE JAJAM
if you are worrying about when to buy or sell mtg cards. Congrats you are one of the numerous reasons mtg is sucking more and more.

@@JakeandJoelareMagic That any card that cheats something out will/should be banned, like Sorin 🤣
