Great video and especially nice to see my daughter in law !! I am in awe of all the participants and the beautiful countryside and villages. Thank you Al 20:18
Thanks Mark! You’d see a lot more of her if she wasn’t so blooming fast! The girls are smashing it at the minute. We’re lucky to have all that countryside on our doorsteps!
What a lovely way to put it! Thanks Liam, appreciate it! It was a lot of fun and if you prefer mostly flat to hills, hills, hills, this is a particularly great ultra to do!
(As usual) very entertaining Part 1. Already looking forward to Part 2 & the no-doubt reference to the now-infamous Blaydon Drunk Ladz & their portable finish line...😁
Thanks Chris! Appreciate it! Haha, I didn’t know what you meant but it’s just clicked!! They were good craic actually! A unique supportive experience! I wasn’t filming at the time unfortunately though - was flagging a bit energy wise by then!
Nice one Al - You are looking as fresh as a daisy at halfway - looking forward to part 2 to see that winning number confirmed or at least a podium finish! Hahaha
Haha, the curse of the ripped number! Absolutely nothing wrong with a DNF! Happens to us all, it’s a right of passage in ultra running! I still remember my first!
Fantastic video Al! Nice chatting to you at the cabins in Ovingham. Call in for a cuppa next time you're passing. Really inspiring to see all the runners coming through the site - I'd love to have a shot at an ultra. Any training plans you can recommend? Looking forward to part 2! Cheers, Michael
Great chatting to you too and congratulations on your lovely holiday home! I’ve never really used a plan (which might show on camera!) but it’s a great question. If I can help with any specific queries or tips I’d be happy to!
Cheers Al. I like that you don't have a plan - not that it shows. I much prefer running according to feel and not being tied to a rigid plan. I just assumed you'd need one for an event like this. I fancy the wild deer ultra in October but haven't committed to it yet. I'm guessing as a minimum I'd need to increase my weekly mileage - currently doing approx 20-25 miles a week and doing the occasional half marathon. You summed up the cabin site perfectly btw.

No matter what the distance, you always make the race look doable. Think this will go on the future race list

I've signed up to this race because of this video.
Get in mate! You’ll really enjoy it!
Great video Al! Getting Super Mario vibes though every time Smid was in shot
Thanks mate! Ha, a few people have said that!
Love it! I was the photographer at Newburn and the End. Lovely to see the runners POV. Part 2 soon?

Haha, something like that! Although perhaps don’t get your hopes up too much!
Great stuff as always Al - fair play to you for having the energy to capture it on camera! 🙌🏼
Thanks Kieron! I’m there for a good time rather than a fast time luckily. Besides, the top spot was already taken… 🥇
Awesome job matey... nothing wrong with a DNF mind 😢. I blame my ripped number!
