    Mistakes are made, accidents happen. Some are plain stupid, some suffer from unbelievably bad luck. That's not nice, but it's how life goes. If we help each other, we can get over almost everything.
    What the hell is wrong with Florida? Why are so many boats just passing by when another boat is in the most obvious destress and the life of the captain is at risk? How is that even possible? Helping each other has been the very basic behavior that has been keeping societies together for tens of thousands of years. Helping sailors in distress has always been THE sacred duty of everybody who's even remotely involved in seafaring, including people living on the coast. Not so in Florida?

    Always better if you can keep some part of your boat out of the water, more recoverable that way. As-is, probably fixable, might not be worth it, but, it wasn't under for that long, and it didn't get banged up on the bottom of the channel.
    Also, once they get it to drydock, the drain plugs are already pulled, so, should drain out quite nicely ;)

    Cleveland, Ohio here. As a lifelong boater on the Great Lakes and some right in your area of South Florida I've seen stuff like this before. Tough call..no captain wants to lose their boat whether it's a dinghy or a 100+ yacht, but you have to realize your life is more important and your boat is insured.

  • @OwnRules1
    @OwnRules1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    That's a good question - are you better off letting it sink and write it off to collect the insurance or refloat and refit. I'm guessing it depend on the boat and circumstances, so I doubt there's a general rule that applies. But maybe I'm wrong and it's best to let 'em sink.

    Can you use a boat that have been under water like this again or is everything considered destroyed?

    • @MaXGTS1
      @MaXGTS1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      My understanding, from talking to friends with boats, is all the electronics and wiring would be ruined. Including inside the engines. So you'd basically have to gut the boat and have it redone. Depending how old the boat is it might not be worth it.

    • @bryce340v8
      @bryce340v8 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@MaXGTS1 The engine will be salvageable, as long as it wasn't running when it went under.

    • @jttech44
      @jttech44 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Generally yes, but like all things boat, open wallet and cry. Engine might be mechanically ok, provided it wasn't running when it sucked water. Anything electronic is likely toast, so, you'll have to check every bit of wire and replace alot of it. The hull should be fine, and you don't have to worry about corrosion with this brief of a submersion, provided you get it out of the water quickly, and hose everything off with fresh water.
      Overall, expensive, but, probably still cheaper than a new boat. Insurance may or may not cover it, because they likely left the drain plugs out which caused it to sink...
