TheManaSource 11:05. I must disagree. Kamigawa saved magic. It only felt horrible because we had had mirrodin and affinity, then lorwyn and faries that destroyed players confidence. I played through all 3 and when kami rolled around I thought,"decks where the games don't end turn 3? Sold!"

KoT was when I first got heavily into draft. I feel like I've been tainted, not much stacks up. That being said I I've always wanted to try some sort of Time Spiral block draft, seem like super fun.

I haven't had a chance to draft each of these sets, but I like the information and the explanation of what made each of those sets viable for the draft. I do remember drafting Urza block though. Mmm... Urza block. Anyway, a great video! =)

I've drafted a lot of these formats and I definitely agree with most of the picks, but the most fun I've ever had drafting was RtR Gatecrash Gatecrash. When Gatecrash was first released, my friends and I drafted that nearly every week until Dragon's Maze came out. We started with double RTR, but Pack Rat. Gatecrash was a great draft set in my opinion :D

I'm so happy you acknowledged Kamigawa in the top three. Everyone hates on the set but I have amazing memories of drafting it nonstop at my LGS.

I'm so glad to see KTK take the number 1 spot. It's the first set that I ever drafted with, and the format was a blast to play with, allowing for aggro, midrange, and control decks depending on how you wanted to build your deck. I was worried that it wouldn't make the list, after getting all the way to the top spot without seeing it, but I'm glad to see it get the respect that it deserves.
Great job. I hope you do an update of this video a lot of new sets has been a great limited enviroment.
I started playing paper magic during Kahn's block and it will always be special to me for that reason. With that in mind I built my first cube from that block.

God almighty I thought you weren't going to make that your number one but damn I'm so happy you did. This was my first draft environment I played and my first sealed both are flat perfect and it's because of the perfect...... let me emphasize perfect fixing. 5 color, 4 color, 3 color, 2 color whatever my dude go crazy. Wizard destroyed this draft format with the next two sets in the block but I just hold this in a special place in my heart.
I am surprised that Alara block
isn’t on this list. It has great color fixing, fun archetypes, and crazy interactions. There are so many fun ways to draft in that block. I know that it exists in a terrible time for magic, and wasn’t opened in the same numbers. If you haven’t done an Alara draft in a while, you really should
I agree 100%. Alara block was basically khans predecessor in many ways. It was fun, (somewhat) balanced, and the fixing there was decent. Should have at least been 7th
the whole time I was watching I was wondering where tarkir was but I was surprised to see it be number 1.
I did have tons of fun playing it though and managed everything between mono blue and 4 color.
:) I loved triple Khans, but it was my first new set so I wish I could go back and draft it again with my current experience.
I'd love to try and do more drafting because I've only done it with Dominaria so far, and enjoyed it. I doubt there's any ways to do it that I'd enjoy, though, short of waiting for new sets to come out; I know I'm going to be trying to wrangle together enough people to draft out my Battlebond box.
The only sets people are likely to be interested in doing drafts of are also incredibly expensive to draft. I think when someone inquired about it as we were finishing up a Dominaria draft, it was suggested, but Khans draft is something like $30 a head at my LGS. (Though google searching to try and confirm this price also shows me that you can still buy boxes of it for ~130-140? Huh. Could more than pay for a draft just by finding a dozen people wanting in on it for $20 a piece. Open a fetch land and it pays for itself.)
There's stuff like MTGO I'm sure, but I don't own that at the moment, and I'm not really interested in getting into it, because if I'm dropping money on cards, I want to actually, physically, permanently OWN those cards. Quick, someone make a Tabletop Simulator drafting mod.
I miss drafting Khans. I really want to do that again, like really bad. The Fate Reforged Prerelease I opened two Ugins, 1 foil and one normal and literally just won every single game. In my prize packs I opened another Foil Ugin. My second favorite Prerelease ever.
Man I wish I was playing MtG around the time of Khans. Wizards NEEDS to bring back Khans like they did for Ravnica/Zendikar/Innistrad

Hey wedge. How about a similar video but with prereleases. Since prereleases are a special format and they are sealed yet not always done well but some are just awesome to have played and experienced.
Iconic masters is one of my favorite draft formats ever, but I've only been playing competitively since Aether Revolt came out so I haven't drafted many sets.

Kimigawa was the first designed for draft sets, like all WotC first the went so hard that way that, in this case, they broke it for standard and eternal play. WotC never gives up and perfect the balancing act eventually. Dominiara is closing in on perfecting themes. It is an exciting time to be playing this game.

Timspiral block has always been at the top of my list. I was expecting Sprout Swarm to get mentioned when you didn't include Future Sight in the draft format. Its easily the best card in the entire block for limited, but it was only one pack and pack three also. I always drafted GW or GB in those drafts.
i didnt ever get to play khans as i joined mtg at ixalan.. in 2020 would you put any of the newer sets in the list? :)
Kamigawa tribal snakes was fun no matter what anybody says and if you get a chance to draft onslaught block I highly recommend it.

Was honestly expecting Zendikar/Worldwake/Rise of the Eldrazi in this list but...I'll settle with Rise x3....However KoT was one hell of a great draft format
Was ROE ever drafted with Zendikar-Worldwake? This was right around when I started playing, and I only remember triple ROE. I could be misremembering, so feel free to correct me.
Well technically it hasn't but...most of my friends drafted ROE with the rest of Zendikar
Rise was a standalone draft set. What hindered Zendikar is that whoever drafted two drops almost always won the draft.
I actually loved kaladesh because it was a very fast format, but it allowed all five colors to be fast. Drafts hardly ever went to time, but everyone still had different decks (even if most had a pain train or two)
I started playing magic with triple Khans draft. It was awesome!!!

Hm... speaking of Draft... I'd go crazy. Draft Unhinged, Unglued, and Unstable and see what insane whackiness is when you mix all three Un-sets in a Draft format. It'll be a Crazy Train, and I'm all aboard it!

my only comment re: khans vs innistrad is that 5c morph with secret plans came very close to being the spider spawning of the set
My favourite has to be theros block but there's just so much nostalgia for me there, and some of my favourite mechanics of all time. That said, khans is amazing and I will forever force FiveC nonsense
Interestingly enough KtK was a time in my life where I was unable to attend FNM most weekends for various reasons. Thus I never figured out how to draft it and as a result I actually have a negative experience of the set because the two times I tried it, nothing I did worked, especially since the second time was much later in the sets lifespan so everyone else knew what they were doing and I was just floundering. Not saying I disagree with it's placement, just an interesting anecdote.
This video really makes me wish I could draft more. :)

I am a bit surprised you didn't include RTR block...at least triple RTR.
I wish drafting these older formats was easier to do, but since all of them are out of print, it's hard to find, let alone afford, the packs to do so. BTW, Wedge, how would you feel about doing a top 10 Sealed Formats - I don't even know how we would evaluate that, but I'd be interested in your analysis.
Maybe I dont draft enough, but I always find it interesting that people love Innistrad and Rise of Eldrazi, while I definitly hated the last one, and the first one didnt really make a lasting expression. Im glad you mentioned spider spawning, cause at that point, people started drafting such weird decks that I had no clue what was going on. Im a pretty decent sealed player, but I guess that was the point where I felt I didnt understand the draft format. I guess that makes it good (its deep) but I didnt find it very enjoyable. And while the flavor was on point, I kinda got sick of all the dark artwork (just as I did with time spiral block after a while). I really enjoyed Return to Ravnica, but it probably wasnt a very deep format. I also know Amonkhet is hated, and Hour is loved, while I have the complete opposite experience. And I had a blast with Ixalan, while people regard that as a horrible draft format.
I guess I just dont play draft enough to ''solve'' a format, cause I enjoy the easier ones and dislike the ''better'' ones. I did enjoy Khans of Tarkir though, and Dominaria so far seems great too. Thanks for reading random stranger on the internet :D
Was expecting OG Zendikar somewhere. Now I'm sad I never got to draft any of these (only started at BFZ).
Khans has always been my favorite draft format, I spent so much time and money drafting that set, It was just a perfect format.

I regret not drafting more KTK. I don't think I really started drafting regularly until Magic Origins or Battle for Zendikar.
Either that or my memory has degenerated to the point where I just don't *remember* drafting the Tarkir block that much.

I'm gonna stick my neck out for Shadows Over Innistrad and Eldritch Moon. I never played OG Innistrad so maybe it was working off a cheat sheet but Clues and Emerge mean't it always felt like you were doing something. I don't think the block gets nearly enough love, also, Conspiracy: Take the Crown was are hilarious.

I’ll personally always have a special place in my heart for triple-Theros, but I can certainly see these from a more objective point of view, especially Kamigawa and Khans.
:) Drafted half of these sets and have to agree with a lot of the rankings. KoT probably is one of the most balanced sets Wizards has ever made.
If we're talking about things that made a format worse after it was explored more, I had heard that the discovery of the 5 color Morphs deck hurt triple KTK as people realized how surprisingly consistent and powerful it could be, and that MTGO flashback drafts of KTK were flooded with 5 color Morph decks ruining it for everyone. I haven't had the chance to draft KTK much myself, so I could be very wrong, but this seems to me like a worse problem than Spider Spawning. Thoughts?

I feel that you should have included triple Alpha. It had great acceleration and the creatures weren’t too powerful. Black Lotus may have been the go to first pick, but it never caused too many problems within the format.

How did I know triple KTK was going to make number one? I had taken a break from magic for years and started back into playing by drafting for the first time ever and KTK was the set at the time.
There has not been a draft set like it since. Dominaria definitely is close though. Dominaria also had an incredibly diverse draft environment.
have to say my favourite draft is triple new phyrexia. that phyrexian mana lets you do so much dumb stuff in draft and helps keep the draft open.
I love khans idea for multicolour. I based my multicolour cube simiar to khans with morphs because otherwise no one will take those multicolour cards. Khans just missed one thing. Flicker effect, morph for 3, flicker the card, get the otherside for free. Can do that with Akroma. DAMN

Rath block is butts, but limited is the only format where you can get away with garbage like shadow aggro (shaggro?), goblins and red sligh were hitting their stride and were starting to be kind of actually fun to play, if green was allowed to build enough it would eventually beat anything with a huge overrun, blue had the always busted Counterspell and some fun merfolk nonsense (I liked using cards that let me look at the opponent's top card in conjunction with Booby Trap), it was fun times. I still have my dauthi deck that I call my "lose friends" deck because I win games but lose friends when I play it and that's why I'm alone posting comments on youtube about Magic sets from 1997.

Personally I actually feel that Masters 25 (A25) was one of the best limited formats we have ever had, for most of the reasons you said MM1 was great.

I would have expected Modern Masters 2016 somewhere on here. It was a great multicolor draft format with very interesting archetypes ... But I suppose I would have also put it just outside of the top 10.

:) so, I don't draft much. However, IF & it's a big if, WotC did another color pie shift set I'd be over it like the sky on earth. Obviously IF it happened it would be a draft supplemental product like conspiracy. (plus imagine the goodies for commander the would come from it *gasp* maybe RW gets ramp and card draw without jumping through hoops!)
