Just watched this again. It's extremely informative. An '87 MC2940 just came up for sale and I am seriously considering it. I actually found some old photos just the other day and I did own a MC940 fretless. I remember it being heavy and too many knobs to try and figure out. The simplicity and lighter body of the '87 MC2940 might be right up my alley.
@thomasfioriglio jeez, I actually just picked up on in gloss black for $300 locally. Quite a bit of damage on the lower body, paint chipping off. Was most definitely dropped.
Hi Greg, great series and you are a wealth of MIJ knowledge. Have you considered doing a series on the USA Peavey Cirrus ? It's truly a masterpiece and the original designer is a friend of mine, so I could hook you guys up for an interview. He's the nicest guy and a legend. He designed the Steve Vai Ibanez, Flea bass, Peavey Cirrus, and others like VOX guitars. Absolute perfectionist with so many funny stories of Rudy Sarzo at the house, 10 Cirrus prototypes all over the house, and so on... - Mike
@@aphekrecordingstudio4274 You're right, an other mistake.Thank's. It's an excellent bass builded with precious material and the sound is so amazing. I don't know why its cotation is so low? It was yhe bass of the futur. Ibanez has opened so many doors. Many friends of mine are astonish when they saw the quality and hear a geat sound. (sorry for my english langage). Have a good day. Bye.
@@christianeb8494 I think they cost too much to build. They would have needed to sell them for a lot more money, if they kept going. I know people who are surprised by how good they are too.
Thank you! I've been interested in the MC2940 as it is a lighter version of the early 80s fretless basses. I like the sleeker design. You've answered any questions I may have. Just curious, what strings do you have on the fretless? Are they flats or rounds? Thanks.
I had SIT flats on the 2940 and thought they were on the ‘80 940 too, but discovered they’re Chromes. Trying some DR Sunbeams on the 2940 at the moment. Haven’t played it much yet though.
@@aphekrecordingstudio4274 I've got DR Sunbeams on my Lakland 44-64 fretless bass. I had Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on but wanted to try roundwounds. Tony Franklin uses them on his fretless. I think they sound great. Much better than flats. Takes a little getting used to coming from flats. I would love to know how you like them.

@@thomasfioriglio Is it a 2940 or 940? The ‘86 smaller bodied versions are 2940 or 2924 for the fretted. They seem to be lighter in general. 940 and 924 are usually the heavier ones.

They do sound a little different, as you can hear, but the quality is just as good. So if the weight is good, it should be a good bass
