I picked mie up in 89. It had been defretted and the preamp didnt worked. I managed to fix it. It never really spoke to me as a fret less so I found 1 on Ebay in the early 2000s at a great price. I ordereed it and open the box & guess what!? Defretted as well! Description said nothing about it being frettless! Pic was kinda blurry. I could do nothing but laugh, Had the initial one re-fretted.
I just picked up a 1986 Matsumoku-made Westone Pantera in the same color. It has the same 5mm truss rod, buried way down in the hole. And I don't think anyone had ever touched it before I got it. The adjustment on it was really "fast", too. Barely a quarter turn, and it went from like .020" to .012".
hey thanks a lot Dave. got my feelers, string height gauge and capo. watched every bass video i could, got the pbass specs. did my set up and its the best one i have done yet.
I've always wanted one of these funky things. Ever since I've seen Sting and Adam Clayton play one, I've had an obsession for these things. Good one Davey!
Every time Dave gets a tight truss rod nut under string tension & you hear that creaking wood sound, I get a little anxious something will snap. Kinda similar anxiety when watching Kevin Richardson, The Lion Whisperer in the open ground with full sized lions. You know *they* know what they are doing, but your basic instinct is telling you something could go horribly wrong.
I’ve found that string height is dictated by the relief of the neck and the radius of the neck. I bend a lot. I need 0.015 relief to get my action down to the 4/64” range without fretting out bending after the twelfth fret with a standard Fender neck. On a flatter neck you can do much better. Good video Dave stay safe and sane!
Almost a Dave comedy gold moment ...I was expecting the bass to pivot and slap Dave on the head when he was bending the neck ...like when one steps on a rake :-).
Lol, you made my day with the jokes about the drill and the holes! 😂 Great video and channel! Instant subbed! Actually used your advices to correct my SR800 neck
Hey Davey, any update on Solo? Here in the states some of our music shops reopen, but only strings and picks, ect.,,need coil tapping pots and such for projects..
I'm late watching this video but I always forget to ask you a question so if you see this great.Do all the people who give you instruments know you will make a video of them?I've been subscribed for along time but have never known what the deal is.Thanks love your channel.
I got the impression that it was just sticking rather than maxed-out … Dave mentioned something to that effect and I would be surprised if he hadn't said if it was near the end of it's adjustment.
hey dave, i know this is a bass video, but i have a question on floyd rose string height adjustment. is it nessesary to remove spring and string tension in order to avoid damage to knife edges befor turning adjustment pole pieces?? thx
I bought an '84 Ibanez bass used back in 1986. It's been my #1 bass since. It's an amazing bass.

I love these basses. My biggest regret was letting one of these pass back in the 90s
Had one too, weighed a bit, but it was tonally versatile and the neck was lovely. Those dark stained ash wings, thick Ebony fingerboard...
I owned an MC500 guitar ,it was better than any of my Gibson’s .wish I still had it
Mine was stolen from a gig in Wayne NJ in 2001
I've got one just like this.
I had one of those from 1982. It was an awesome bass!
Thanks Dave for all your teachings. I just performed my first Truss Rod adjustment and set up yesterday. 😀👍
Holy smokes, I crossed my fingers under the table when you pushed the neck down to adjust the trus rod.

Thanks again, Dave. Your videos always make the day better.
One of the best versatile bass guitar. Played freted and fret less. Great sound.

Thanks for doing these videos still Dave - I find them more therapeutic than ever in present circumstances.
Agree. I find them as "therapeutic" and relaxing to watch. I also appreciate Dave continuing to post.
Thanks for the content always a great way of passing the time and learning something different.
Thanks Dave

this soothes me

It was used just like all the others
Almost a Dave comedy gold moment ...I was expecting the bass to pivot and slap Dave on the head when he was bending the neck ...like when one steps on a rake :-).
Cool older bass!! Cheers Dave!!
Very cool ✨
nice looking cosmetically but yeah, Buddy might want to get some newer foam or springs under that neck pup. Thanks Dave

Greetings from India, Dave.
Is this the same one that came by your way a number of years ago?
Dave says: "I've been ezzed!"
I wish my rod got stiffer with age.
I swear you did this bass before Dave! Wasn’t it the one that you had to clamp the neck on? Even looks like the same colour
I have 3 of them: MC900/MC924/MC824 :D
1983, Dave!!!.....
It’s de ja vu all over again

'ln Rod we Truss'.!!!😎😎😎

i’m in south carolina in the us and i rarely have to do adjustments i think it’s because i’m not in the rust belt
my frets never corrode nor do my strings
That truss rod seems to be damn near maxed out. Maybe it needs a washer or two behind the rod nut?
I got the impression that it was just sticking rather than maxed-out … Dave mentioned something to that effect and I would be surprised if he hadn't said if it was near the end of it's adjustment.
Is this the one you did ages ago in the old basement Davey?
The truss rod gods... #trussgods
I had one, the neck twisted, traded it for a Gibson RD.
Exactly the same thing happened to the one I owned....mine was a 1982 model. Sounded and played awesome. neck twisted beyond fixing so I gave it away!
hey dave, i know this is a bass video, but i have a question on floyd rose string height adjustment. is it nessesary to remove spring and string tension in order to avoid damage to knife edges befor turning adjustment pole pieces?? thx
Can the truss rod ever run out of adjustment room?
Yes. If the truss rod is cranked and the neck is still bent you are in for a treat.
Had one in eighties, swapped it for a Ric 4001. Oh well
Not happy with your Rickie ??? I'd have thought that was a good swap for most … guess it depends on the sounds you want ?
@@Jester-Riddle swapped was wrong word. Sold it and bought Ric. I liked it but I know Dave hates them. It's long gone.
Is that a neck through?
I certainly noticed a long gentle slope up to body width and thought that it made it look nice to play the upper register ...
Yeah, they also made a few versions with a bolt on, but that was a neck through.
Should have shown the ridiculous aluminum case holding the electronics.
Dave, if its not a virgin hole, shouldn't it bee a bit looser ?
great line,,,, gonna use that one. thanks Dave.
You get a zero on the clever meter for that one
@@picassoboy52 thanks !
Was I the only one getting a'scared watching Dave turn the Truss Rod?
I cringe every time. I always think they are going to snap
No😱😱😱
“String action set like ass!” 🤣
should have thrown some foam under the low pickup or at least have a look to see what was going on.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff Seems a strange thing to do, preventing optimal pickup height ! Still, if it's 'the way it is'. that's end of discussion ...
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff That's a shame !
If they were in fact "active PU's".... not nearly an issue.... I would be more concerned with the buzzzzzzzzy. another solid setup Davey!! Cheers!
When Dave is doing that manual truss rod/neck adjustment, makes me cringe a bit. Yikes!
I got a cheater pipe in the back of my truck. Wanna try that?
Q: Why can't thing's be what they aren't?
A: Cuz thing's that's aren't, can't be...
Loius CK...
Cheers Davey 🍻
Shut up, and eat your fries.^^
good job, and obviously it worked but you had to really bend and yank on that truss rod. to me an ugly base. just saying!!
Dave's the God of Rod... Truss me! :D :D :D
If I buy that 12 string Dean Bass I'll be buying another sticker
Ibanez'd? Really? 🤦🏻♂️
If you have a "DAVE'S" sticker on back body of your bass, we know that you at least know how to care for your instrument
Or at lease doubled it's value !
