My 15 year old Briggs and Stratton gas mower is still cuttin grass. Only have had to replace the coil and clean out the carb. Makes no sense to go Battery/Electric.
So does my 2k Camry LE 260k miles, NO rust, power everything, ice cold AC, and it's never failed to start and I'm keeping it forever! I know it will outlast any of this new overpriced junk they sell today!😁😁😁
Scotty goes on about poor VW quality and getting a Toyota instead. Then right after talks about how Toyota is having tranny problems in their trucks. So is anything good to buy anymore?
Last time I bought a car, there were small cars available for 7 and 8000$. I almost bought a camry once, but it was 13,000 and I couldn't make the down payment, so I got a year old dodge. When I was young, you could get an old clunker for 3,4, 500$ So to me, car prices are just unreal. You could buy a nice SUV for the price of the cheapest cars now. Just like 2000$ for a 300$ Apartment! Insanity.
Inflation. And when you adjust for inflation a lot of the things you bought really weren't all that much cheaper. The problem is wages have not kept up with inflation for most people.
100$ 20 years ago is worth 167$ today, prices of some things have went up a lot more than that, including Cars and Rent, and wages of course as well doesn't keep up.
The Mary Barra era killed the Volt, a superior hybrid to most hybrids sans the Prius. GM ends good things to replace with fads and fleet car models. It's a real shame. Still hoping GM becomes a quality, streamlined organization making a few quality models not 57 flavors of limited shelf life models.
Yes, they were the first car company to pay back their TARP loan. Unfortunately during the process they had to hire legal advisors and a whole bureaucracy to pay back the loans and in the process gained new expenses paying to have that department stick around lobbying Congress for rebate programs and asking for favors not to fine defects. Defects resulting from trying to make too many different models of cars that really don't last very long or have any sort of effort in styling. They need a new front office and look at ways to build cars that buyers want, not Wall Street.
Short answer NO. They got a loan from a private lender so they could say they were first to pay off their Government loan. So they are still in hock to the other lender.
Even the $28000 trax sucks. Just another Korean junk. 3-cly of gas hog junk. Bring back the 80’s diesel Rabbit! No need to care about emmissions. “Drill Baby Drill!”
Yes, General Motors is currently scaling back its Chevrolet electric vehicle production, particularly in the near term, due to slower than expected demand for EVs, meaning they are producing fewer Chevrolet electric cars than initially planned; however, they still maintain their long-term commitment to expanding their electric vehicle offerings across their brands, including Chevrolet, with new models coming in the future.
PHEV hybrid is what GM has the most experience with. They need to work on more intelligent computer controlled electric flywheel boosting to 3 cylinder ICE engines. Stop trying to please the big car and big truck buyers. Just make safe, reliable long range PHEV cars and trucks that emphasize commuter economy and reliability. An electric flywheel in stop & go traffic will extend the life of the ICE motor simultaneously improving air quality and gas mileage. EV Only cars are by default inefficient because in stop & go traffic, their massive weight battery pack is what's wasting the juice lugging it around at slow speeds. The heavy EV Only cars only become environmentally efficient in low highway speeds without lots of stops and starts. PHEV can be light enough to be efficient even in stop and go traffic.
My biggest issue though with hybrids in Nashville, TN is because of the annual tags cost. So now I have to pay $184 or $186. Because the state determined my 2016 Toyota Prius on the same level as a full electric plug-in vehicle. So I have to pay the higher price while everybody else who has only a gas-powered car pays around the $80 point. I think this is extremely ridiculous that I have to pay that because I do not plug in with my vehicle to any electrical grid. I generate my own electricity through breaking. I swear Tennessee is doing things nowadays more and more to make me dislike living here.
Camrys are ONLY in Hybrid!!! WTF!!!!!!! Can't these F'ing car companies just make a regular car!!! Just a simple 4 cyl. with a 6 speed manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They do in Asia. Can buy a new toyota Vios for $12.5k, 4 cylinder 1.3L, 5 speed manual. I've seen them as taxis with hundreds of thousands of kilometers on them still going.
Toyota makes the best hybrids in the world. They work very well, so don't knock it ! Honda is just a few years behind. They have left every other car company in the world 'in the dust' when it comes to building hybrids vehicles.
Exactly why I bought the last 24 SE nightshade they had on the lot instead of one of the new 2025 hybrid models 6 months ago. Not ready to jump toward a hybrid yet
Scotty: I listened to your video about WD-40. You said that the “-40” part of the name stands for the 40th try getting the product right. That means there were 39 failures before getting it right. Can you imagine the number of family members, friends, pundits and other “experts” telling the inventor what a failure he was, and that this would never work? Waste of time and money? Besides, who needs such a worthless product? We have lubricating oil, and it works just fine. K Yet, WD-40 is a smashing success. Now, about electric vehicles… Get the picture? One day, after lots problems and failures, electric vehicles will be viable and successful. My dad was born in 1920 and grew up watching bicycle mechanics fix cars. They had lots of problems with broken parts and replacements taking weeks and months to arrive from the factory. Detractors pointed out that horses were perfectly good and that most everyone had some. Why bother changing to cars? Electric vehicles are not viable for a lot of people, including you and me. But they are for a lot of people. I think it’s better to encourage developers rather than throwing rocks at them.
Battery less wireless power transfer is when ev cars will be perfect as Nikola Tesla first envisioned and made a prototype of not the fraudulent nonsense that Elon musk fronts
Love ❤️ our 99 Camry LE 2.2 w/136k 🎉 Sold them new for years and noticed every redesign was built cheaper. 92 to 01 were built to last 200,000+ miles back then. Many are still roaming the streets laughing at everyone with their huge payments. 😊😮😅
I've got a 2007 nissan. ALTIMA S.E. six speed manual, with 275000 miles and still drives great. Only because it has a manual transmission, not the trashy c v t.
In the 70ies there were very few japanese cars. And now you say the best car is the Toyota Camry. I never thought an American could say that 45 years ago…
I had a 1991 Chevrolet 1500 had 398,000 miles on it. Everything was all original. I did the maintenance on it on everything brake fluid, diff service, power steering fluid, antifreeze, greased all ball joints and so on. If you do the maintenance and over exceed it it’ll last you. If you see that you are getting close to an oil change guess what do it don’t wait. Anyways.
being that Tesla is a new American company I would say Tesla is a win for America and Corolla is a win for Japan. Tesla will soon gap Toyota in the coming years.
hybrid motors - they are currently showing to have "engine life shortening" water and fuel contamination because the motors need to run hot and for a good length of time to burn off water and fuel that normally gets in with the oil. So there will be a fix, but most hybrid motors do not address it except to say to change the oil often without exception.
Interchangeable standardized battery powered mowers and lawn equipment actually makes lots of sense. Not riding mowers. You want the juice to spin the blade, not carry your donuts and bacon rolls. Some contractors would get more work done because sound ordinances don't allow loud yard equipment to be in use before 10am or after 6pm. HOA / Deed Restrictions vary, but quiet electric push mowers would allow a couple of jobs before 10am for example.
Government Motors, if not for the Tax payers propping up GM that is the Gov using our money to subsidize the industry. Please put a stop to wasteful spending of Tax payers money!!
Do you think GM should keep the government out of their business and let them build what they want to build. So Chevrolet is all done Oldsmobile was a good seller now they're all done so it sure does sound like the government is trying to put GM out of business
In real life VE users always stay between 20% and 80% in daily use. In 6 years, I only depleted the battery once on each on my VE just to know how it looks like. But like gas cars, you never deplete the reservoir.
So realistically your 300 mile range EV is actually around 180 mile range is what you are saying here. You realize that right? And I mean hey that's fine for people that never do long trips.
My Honda lawnmower was built in 1985. It belonged to my uncle and when he passed I took it. That thing still runs amazing starts on the first or second pole and doesn’t burn a drop of oil. Now that is quality.
@@jamescaron6465 I've even seen old Briggs and Straton mowers last for 30 years with oil changes. The main mistake people make is not changing their mowers oil.
I wanted to start an all electric lawn service and sell it on the quietness of the service. I am surprised at the level of noise in upscale neighborhoods. There's no having a peaceful sit outside. Best to get rid of the lawn all together, I guess.
Camry’s are great cars. However every new generation they have less, and less interior room. My sister-in-law had one that I was comfortable in. A gal I work with has the latest gen, and I basically had to crawl in and out of thing. Admittedly I’m bigger than average (6’ 5”) but it was ridiculous. Years ago I owned an early 90’s Honda Accord and it was comfortable, and have ridden in older Camrys and others. It is awful how all the newer cars have gotten smaller interiors.
I always wondered if you could make a v3 engine with uneven displacement on the third cylider for balance. Say if the 2 were 100cc each and the third was 200cc. I figured you could but i didnt see the point tbh. Inline engines are chepaer to make than Vs
It’s a damn shame Honda killed off the gasoline lawn mowers they had. Great double blade system that mulched the grass clippings extremely fine, and the reliability of them was excellent, as long as you use ethanol free gas and change the oil at least once every few years.
I just purchased a Chevy made in South Korea. When told it would take months, due Monday after six month, I said great as I did not want totally worthless UAW built one. Used to be UAW meant quality now they are about greed hoping for government one and are never responsible for anything but did all the actually touching on the product and I am sure do it wrong to cause the company trouble.
The older Chevrolets were built better back before 2006. Any vehicle built from 2006 through 2024 are junk. You maybe lucky with the current vehicle it just depends on the manufacturer. However, US manufactured vehicles from 2006 - 2024 are all junkie vehicles.
Have a Lowe's 80 volt mower (I think its discontinued). Really like it. The Husqvarna, with its Briggs and Scrapiron engine with its incapacity to pull the hat off your head, that the electric replaced was a real piece of junk. I bought a second Lowe's mower that uses batteries that can be used in Lowe's tools. My wife and I mow the lawn together for exercise. I also Like the Rivian truck, but will not pay the price. The old 49 flat ford v-8 really gets the benzene and oil out of my system when I crave it. Still, I want a 48 Packard non-electric----life is a contradiction it seems.
I like my 56v Ego electric battery Mower. My 10 year old batteries are going bad now, but I will have them rebuilt since newer cells perform better than the brand new cells 10 years back. Ego batteries are shipped by Chevron. They are in the energy business, for the long haul.
They was guy on TH-cam can't remember the name. It was a straight shift it went out after he shifted down and went to put it in a higher gear, and the transmission went. Another went four wheeling and tire spun on a wet rock and axle broke. I thought I had it rough when I bought a 2016 Tacoma. That year model had trouble, but my wife wrecked it. I got a broke back from that, but it was totaled. May God bless everyone 🙏 ❤
Scotty-Scotty, not the End of Chevy--maybe their Cheap Electric Cars. I live in Chevy-Ford Country in AR. Delta, Farmers and their Families all Drive Basically American Made Vehicles.
GM: Generally Malfunctions. GMC: Gotta Mechanic Coming. So confused why people buy Chevy. The older pre 2009’s were bulletproof but after their government bail out they went cheap & crappy on quality and upped prices.
My 2007 Snapper HiVac commercial with a 6hp Honda Motor still starts on first or second pull, mows like a champ. Plus because it has some suction it does a better job and in less time that my neighbors whit their Emowers. One of those "guys" can take hours to mow it lawn, he must not have much knowledge on how to maintain the battery. On any given Saturday his mower will be out on the lawn for hours. Job 1/2 done Hahahaha.
I don’t k ow if it’s going away but I know I don’t like working on their motors in the newer cars and trucks are horrible. Give me a Ford to work on any day.
The new camry looks fine the exterior is ok the interior looks nice has decent amount of physical buttons which is great & it sounds kinda good but I'll save up to get a 03 or 04 mercury marauder hopefully next year
All of the car manufacturers have had problems at various times. What do you think of the recent class action lawsuit against Toyota for defective door lock actuators? It seems to include various models from 2007 to 2024.
Yup.. my 23 Prius was just recalled for the lock. I don't have much faith in new vehicles. Idk man, i wish it was practical to just drive my 91 mr2 with zero car pymt.
I got a small push mower that uses a single battery pack. I payed only 129 on sale. Does a good job for what it is and very light for steep hills. The problem is if the battery fails, it is like an EV. A battery would cost almost as much as the mower cost and are hard to find. Mostly plastic so I guess it goes in the recycling bin eventually.
People go into debt buying 88k depreciating assets that will be worth what the junk yard will pay on a sliding probability scale from the time of purchase all the time Scotty! That's America, where we think it's a sign of success to "drive" ourselves poor! 😂
This sounds like an episode of Pushing Daisies. If a series of unlikely scenarios occurs the Dandelion will explode. That was bad news for Rikki Lindhome
Amazing the moment the main guy at Toyota steps down, the company goes to you know where. The Tacoma is losing sales to the GM twins and Nissan. The VW van is ridiculously priced(Stelantis anyone?). It’s to bad their e van is electric(the one that looks like the old VW bus)as that is what they need to make with an ICE engine……..but they are too stupid to figure it out😢

Did GM ever pay back the billions in bailout money or was it forgiven?

Pass
They’re scaling back because they suck, not because of the demand. The statement ain’t mathing bub.
Go Woke, go Broke. Electric cars are woke !!!
GM can't seem to make ICE cars properly let alone EVs. The older Silverados are reliable and the Corvettes are fun to drive that's about it.
Electric cars are not going away with Elon Musk being Trump's new best friend.
Well, at least TESLA will be OK !
Yes, Trump hates electric cars as do I
Hah you haven't watched Trump long enough then. He always ends up going to war with his "friends" just look at his previous administration.
But you wont be forced to buy one.
Definitely need to leave oppressive states.

K
Yet, WD-40 is a smashing success.

Another reason to keep an ICE vehicle...you're never restricted to filling your tank to 70 or 80% capacity. And you don't need to park it outside.
In the 70ies there were very few japanese cars. And now you say the best car is the Toyota Camry. I never thought an American could say that 45 years ago…
Not only that the Japanese cars were pretty junk in the 70s. They never could have competed without help from the Nixon administration.
1979 and 1980 The best selling vehicle in the USA was the Oldsmobile Cutlass
I remember seeing a lot of datsons around 1979 along with the Oldsmobile Cutlass
Anyways.
Scotty, in 2023, Camry sold 290k units, the Corolla sold 1.64 million units, and the Model Y sold 1.1 million. Corolla is still king.
1.1m sales figure include model 3 and model y. Not separate.
being that Tesla is a new American company I would say Tesla is a win for America and Corolla is a win for Japan.

So realistically your 300 mile range EV is actually around 180 mile range is what you are saying here. You realize that right? And I mean hey that's fine for people that never do long trips.
I’ll stick with my 10 year old Honda ICE lawnmower.
My Honda lawnmower was built in 1985. It belonged to my uncle and when he passed I took it. That thing still runs amazing starts on the first or second pole and doesn’t burn a drop of oil. Now that is quality.
