Love this little car and put the video on as soon as I saw the thumbnail. Very happy to watch more on this lovely Volvo. As for what to do with it, a nice subtle resto-mod: keep it looking and mechanicaly original but modernise some aspects of the car to make it better for today's traffic. So auto choke, up-rated brakes etc. Looking forward to more on the 340 .

I'd rather off myself than drive a car with an auto-choke, they never seem to work for me. A manual choke is all you'll need.

They were originally a DAF design from the Netherlands..Volvo bought out DAF's car division late 70's or thereabouts and rebadged (and vastly redeveloped) them as Volvos. They were'nt made in Sweden as the bigger 240/740/760 but made in Holland or Belgium using Renault and / or Volvo engines.

I will be following this series. I've recently gotten an old 343 -79 back to life on my own. Was very tedious and annoying trying to source down parts and the such, but if you are in England I am sure classicswede will help you more than it did me. One potential thing you could do to that car, is install a manual gearbox. Classicswede has a bunch of them and I am sure that it is a fairly straight forward swap if you manage to source all the components. And I recommend getting the m47r mk2 instead of the m45r if you want decent mileage on the road. You can also trim these out with coilovers, lowering blocks, bigger carbs and all of that. You could also start doing what a guy in the netherlands has been doing for the last years, sourcing all of the original volvo 343 R parts. Snowcap, the R-type front, the jalusi for the rear window and such.
