34:19 gabbie's take reminds me of that one Smiling Friends episode where Grim and Gnarly proudly promote nihilism and declare that nothing matters because everyone dies some day, before promptly being threatened at gunpoint and pissing their pants in the face of actual threat to their life
My god, the transition from Dandelion to Animals was seamless. I'd tell her to lawyer up, but i don't think Adam Levine has heard the song, or heard of her, for that matter. Still ballsy in a post Blurred Lines music world. Awesome video. Glad you're back, Back.
As a former Gabbie Hanna fan (I don't stand by middle school/early high school me) Medicate is absolutely her best song, and honestly still kind of hits. I will always love the line "Make your tragedies a work of art" no matter what, and I'll always give her that one thing if nothing else. Even her (earlier) bad songs do still mean a lot to me (Though I certainly don't like them anymore, or listen to them) because they did genuinely help me through a very shitty time in my life. I'll probably never listen to any of her songs again, *maybe* with the exception of Medicate, but I will at least appreciate that when I was an extremely depressed student, they helped me.
Omg thank you because as an ex Gabbie Hanna fan too, I feel almost the exact same! A lot of her songs really did help me through the majority of my late teenage depression era. I can't lie, I really felt like she was one of the only ones to get it mentally bc she was so much more open about her feelings and state of mind during her TH-cam days. Such a shame what mental health does to some ppl. May she get the help she desperately needs (but also, f her for the racist, transphobic, misogynistic, etc retoric she spewed and then decided to doubled down on) ❤❤❤
Sometimes I'll still listen to Honestly in the car. Something about the little background noises still hit. And then follow it up with honestly encore.
The music videos really impacted public opinion of her art, and respect of her as an artist. I remember the attitude toward her early music was like "I dont like Gabby, but its nice something decent is coming from TH-camr music." I also remeber what felt like a tectonic shift when she lit herself on fire in that one video. It was the worst of her melodrama. It showed that she wasnt over acting extrmely extra for attention. She was out of touch, she was unserious. It made the whole thing a joke (Obviously this has less of an impact than Monster, but I think it, along with her ridiculous dancing and overacting, would've distilled her music into a meme even without Monster)
Man, I had to listen to her whole discography alongside Marshal and I feel more than broken. I feel like I got broken, lost my way, stagnated and drenched in a pool of my own sorrow only to find myself once again and come out an entirely new person. Cool.
I don’t know if you know this, but her biggest musical influence/favorite band is Twenty One Pilots. You can hear a lot of their influences in her music. She doesn’t do it well, mind you, but it’s there.
@ his singing career literally started and gained traction on TH-cam. He was big on TH-cam before he ever signed anywhere. His channel is not deleted, so where is my comment wrong?
The outro was a shock and a half because I genuinely had no idea you had that many voiceover guests and I couldn't recognize ANY of them... not even ATHENA, who I watch a ton!!
I feel bad for her a little bit. On some level she seems to be aware that her behaviour is pushing people away but instead of getting help she writes songs about it and lashes out when people tell her that it's not working. She seems to have a PR Team of either yes men or pushovers who never challenge her ideas. If she uses Jesus to fill the silence that's her choice but i don't think it's gonna work long term.
I feel like saying that her music is average shouldn't be such a surprise or insult as people make it. Because when she started out, it was average and that should be enough. No first draft is a Nobel prize winner, the expectations seem like they're to heaven now
@jacklyntree7752 Oh absolutely. I wasn't talking about her musical talent at all, purely her behaviour and mental health problems. There definitely needs to be a wide variety of average music that isn't groundbreaking but does the job :)
I was kind of a kid fan of Gabbie’s for a while, still sort of blind to the red flags I can now perceive looking back. I feel she’s a deeply flawed person who needs mental health care and understanding, and I don’t think it’s healthy for her to be a public figure but I also have no say so all I can do is watch with a blend of pity and acceptance.
31:48 this really got me dude, the callback to that terrible “I need to mention that I’m writing this song” trope next to the “passionate” sobbing, it’s hilarious
thank you, I'm so sick of people that say, "man, i hate Gabbie but her music slaps." no it doesn't. it does not slap. despite her working with some really great producers, they can only do so much with what they're working with.
98% of Gabbie Hanna's music sounds like someone shoved a 90s goth into a plummeting elevator with a synthesiser and a typewriter, and mercilessly scooped up the remains into Garageband with a dollar store kid's playset gardening spade. just- Gabbie why
As someone who has... observed Gabbie from afar for a few years and who did (does?) like her music, I don't think the "Monster meme" really did that much damage to her music career in the long-run. It definitely gave her a rough start, but even people who didn't like her stopped talking about it before she did, and I haven't really seen anyone bring it up in a while other than kind of a passing mention. And much as I get gauging the music on its own merits and not get into the 'everything else', there's a pattern with Gabbie that whenever she has something new to release, usually a new song or an album, she gets online and stirs shit up. She goes after people for things they said about her months or even years ago in some pretty nasty ways, and she responds to criticism with personal attacks and inciting her fans to go after them. (This is where the comments about her bullying people on the 'You Oughta Know' cover come from.) This is one of those cases where her behavior outside of her music directly impacts how people respond to it. I like (or liked) Gabbie's music because I'm incredibly basic and I actually like middle of the road music, and I like the little unique quirks of her music... usually, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth how she chooses to promote it. It's made it hard to enjoy her music the more I know about specific songs and where she was coming from when she wrote them. You mentioned in your conclusion that the difference between Red Vox switching genres and Gabbie switching genres is a clear passion and understanding of what they're doing where Gabbie is directionless, and I agree for a very uncharitable reason: I think Gabbie likes and cares about her music, but in the sense that she wants to be seen and praised as a great musician rather than because she's actually passionate about music.
Damn, havent watched you in a while but this is a pretty good and interesting video and series. Maybe you could Tessa Violet next. I really like her music but never watched her TH-cam stuff.
I randomly happened to come across this video and, as someone equally fascinated and appalled by Gabbie Hanna-I really enjoyed it. Medicate is absolutely her best song in my opinion-although I like Bad Karma, Call Me Crazy, and the bathtub version of Sorry I'm Late as well. Ohhh and Monster is wicked fun to sing along to.
gabbie actually does have an album coming soon! its a playlist with a current working title on her channel and its called betrayed with a kiss. currently, where did i go, my sun and alone with the universe are on the album, im shocked exodus and everlasting love arent on there since i actually liked those two.
In her song Happy in the end there is a part in the beginning where you can hear a russling sound which I believe is a bracelet. Which feels so unprofessional to leave in😭
No one’s gonna find this confession buried in the comments so I’ll just say it…. I like a lot of her songs 😬 you didn’t see this hey whose voice was that in the video???
I'm gonna say this with no baggage attached to it. Her music sounds like something that would be nominated for Eurovision. I'll let you do what you want with that comparison. I don't have a strong opinion on her music. It's very mid and wouldn't pass through the semifinals...I didn't even know she made music till now.
if you want a new title for your show about youtubers making music why not call make some pun about youtube play buttons? i don't want to suggest you just call it "the play button" but maybe something along those lines
pretty sure there’s actually a memed video of gabbie saying she doesn’t get why people make jokes about imagine dragons they’re good so if i’m right about that then i give an a+ to your comment about the sound on Today
34:19 gabbie's take reminds me of that one Smiling Friends episode where Grim and Gnarly proudly promote nihilism and declare that nothing matters because everyone dies some day, before promptly being threatened at gunpoint and pissing their pants in the face of actual threat to their life
So easy to give up on your life and say nothing matters anyways when most of your physical and emotional needs are being met
My god, the transition from Dandelion to Animals was seamless. I'd tell her to lawyer up, but i don't think Adam Levine has heard the song, or heard of her, for that matter.
Still ballsy in a post Blurred Lines music world.

2:48 talks about being an “angry critic” and wearing a red flannel. probably wasn’t intentional but I found that part really funny
The music videos really impacted public opinion of her art, and respect of her as an artist. if there’s one thing gabbie hanna’s gonna do, it’s sing outside of her range
Man, I had to listen to her whole discography alongside Marshal and I feel more than broken.
I feel like I got broken, lost my way, stagnated and drenched in a pool of my own sorrow only to find myself once again and come out an entirely new person.
Cool.
I think we can also see the decline in her music videos, going from semi good professional to filming on her iphone
I don’t know if you know this, but her biggest musical influence/favorite band is Twenty One Pilots. You can hear a lot of their influences in her music. She doesn’t do it well, mind you, but it’s there.
Oh god that makes so much sense
MARSHALL?? I was literally rewatching your old stuff a few days ago AND YOU JUST SHOW UP??
I CAN READ YOUR MIND
He is in your walls
“…the most popular TH-cam music…. Thing…” Are we forgetting that Troye Sivan has been on TH-cam since 2007?
Troy isn’t a TH-camr, though, he ditched it
@ his singing career literally started and gained traction on TH-cam. He was big on TH-cam before he ever signed anywhere. His channel is not deleted, so where is my comment wrong?
Nothing more compelling than a successful and beautiful woman singing about how lonely and toxic she is.
She is toxic as hell. Until she acknowledges trying to befriend her former friend's rapist, she's still a nasty piece of turd.
The outro was a shock and a half because I genuinely had no idea you had that many voiceover guests and I couldn't recognize ANY of them... not even ATHENA, who I watch a ton!!

Glad your back marshal. I did not know gabbie released this much music... glad your here to sift through it all
2:58 Marshal truly is Canadian, unable to be slightly mean even if they deserve it
ah take off, eh
Athena P cameo? Unexpected but lovely

I didn’t even realize this was your channel dude!!! Production quality is amazing! Missed you and your content!
Thanks so much!!!!
The rap was actually a piece from the “roast yourself challenge” in like 2015.
Ooooh ok ok thanks for the clarification
14:31 put some respect on troye sivans name!! blue neighbourhood (which i still count as his youtube days) charted at 53 on the billboard 200!
I thought of Troye too hahah
Out of all of the musicians, Gabby truly is one of them
Her pop punk song sounds like it was made by the wiggles. At least that clip made it sound like that
OMG YOU'RE RIGHT
Marshall’s lumberjack arc is something I’m here for
i think her music is very “i’m 14 and this is deep” this is coming from someone who loved her music at 14 and depressed.
The amount of people you got to do guest voices is impressive
MOMMM MARSHAL HAS STARTED DOING STUFF AGAIN 🗣️🗣️
Vinesauce, BDG, and a HOMESTAR RUNNER soundbite at the end? Oh we are so fucking back
If I lived in Winnipeg I’d also be bored enough to listen to Gabbie Hannah’s entire discography
either that or become Venetian Snares
as soon as i clicked on this video i sneezed
what did you do to me marshal
great video man, been watching your channel for years now and happy to have you back :D
Welcome back!!!! Ive been watching since 2018, its amazing to see you back :)
personally victimised by u claiming a youtuber on charts is a phenomenon when i was up at the asscrack of dawn for troye sivan's first ep
Idea for the name of this series: YouTunes
2 points for the Strong Bad pfp
17:49 man that was a SMOOTH transition though
Honestly, Her early music releases were decent. It just got worse, and worse... and worse.
MEDICATE IS THE BEST ONE HAHA. That was my middle school baaaanger.
I’ve missed you man! You look great! ❤
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THE GOAT BACK WITH A BIGASS VIDEOOOOO
This is going to be a good video, it's been awhile since I've watched your content but I'm a couple minutes in and I'm excited to see where this goes

Wowowowowow so glad I’m still subbed man good video 👍👍👍
Welcome back, Back! And you brought the milk too!
Hooray! More of this very specific series!
Loving the new content
Loved your honesty! Great video!
i hope we can see more of jack reading bad lyrics completely straight-faced in future videos
Finally you’re back.
Creep slander will NOT be tolerated🔥🔥🔥
actually it might be, depends on your opinions on the rest of their songs
I like their other songs, just not a fan of them as people
Genuinely loving this series
Abt “Call Me Crazy,” that song came out the same day as Tickets to My Downfall. Crazy.
Oh shit whoops
Cool name idea: TH-cam music bargain bin
I feel ‘TH-cam bargain bin music’ fits better
Honestly (encore) is her best song and i'm MAD you skipped it.
Glass House is good too
she sucks tho
i once saw the out loud music video playing at a legit bowling alley during cosmic bowling and was … shocked.
Oh my goodness! Gabbie is such a wild rabbit hole.
In her song Happy in the end there is a part in the beginning where you can hear a russling sound which I believe is a bracelet. Which feels so unprofessional to leave in😭
Ohhhhhhhh boy, this is going to be a trip
Welcome back old friend 🫡
