Hmm... so you are saying a CoCo 3 case wrap or custom paint job should be in my future? I agree about my CoCo 3 being decked out now. I'm 99% sure I've done all the things worth doing to the machine.
Thanks! At this point there are no other mods I'll be doing to my CoCo 3 computer. It can do everything I want with homebrews, transcoded games and NitrOS9 with speed and memory to spare.
That RAM board and Memory Management Unit are awesome! I was wondering though, can the original games and programs access that much memory? I would assume they would not be programmed to search for the new memory addresses. 🤔 I have never seen Kings Quest on a CoCo. The animation looked really smooth! I think a CoCo 3 will be my next project 😅
All the original games and programs that would run on a stock CoCo 3 still run fin with the extra RAM and MMU board, along with the CPU upgrade I did previously. The previous 512K RAM and CPU upgraded I did makes a lot of homebrew games and the transcoded games like Joust and Defender possible. The benefit of the extra RAM above the original 512K upgrade I did is NitrOS9 will be very happy. I'm sure there are additional things, however I'm still learning about them all LOL.
Geez! Have there been any "killer apps" made to utilize 2 megs yet other than some cool tricks in NitrOS9? I just want to get Robocop to run on my stock Coco 3, dang it LOL.
There is a homebrew game in the works that will use memory above 512K and of course as mentioned NitrOS9 loves having more memory and the CPU upgrade I did in a previous video. I don't have a Robocop cartridge for my CoCo 3 but I would assume it would run fine on a stock CoCo 3. What issues are you having?
I've had this CoCo 3 for little over a year (October 2022) and had been sitting on the cap kit until I did the recap recently, so maybe Console5 got reports about that cap footprint and changed it out?
@@geekwithsocialskills you might be right! I loved the ferris bueller reference by the way great video! I hope you're enjoying the coco as much as I am!
Thanks for watching until the end to catch the Ferris Bueller reference. Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. I am enjoying the CoCo 3 for sure. In future videos with the machine I'll be showing off what I've been doing with it before and after the major upgrades I've done, however those videos will be down the road as I've got a bunch of other videos in various states of completion that I want to get finished and up.
For 99% of the CoCo 3 users out there doing the 512K memory upgrade would be fine for a lot of things like homebrew games and NitrOS-9 (Windows/Mac GUI style Operating System). The CPU upgrade I did along with the 512K upgrade kicks that up a notch for transcoded games like Defender, Donkey Kong and a few others. The 2048K memory upgrade in this video at the time of posting makes NitrOS-9 really happy LOL, however I've also heard that some cool new modern day games and programs are in the works and finally bragging rights with saying my CoCo 3 has 2MB of RAM. If you have never heard of NitrOS-9 and a CoCo user, check it out www.lcurtisboyle.com/nitros9/nitros9.html
Cloud 9 offers the 2048k upgrade kit, however you need to reach out to them via their contact information on the website order page. Send them a message and mention you want to purchase as TRIAD 2048K SRAM Upgrade and Protector+ MMU set up. www.cloud9tech.com/
I'm not sure. Reach out to the folks at Cloud9. They have a lot of stuff for sale that's not actually listed on their website, like the actual MMU board and 2048K memory upgrade board.

I used a heat gun to warm up the case plastic underneath the badge to soften the glue, then used a thin blade to slide under the badge and gently pull it off. It works like a charm. What did you end up doing for yours?
@@geekwithsocialskillsI don’t have a heat gun, but I soaked my case in scalding hot water (around 150F) for several minutes. Then I used an eyedropper to submerge the badge in 99% IPA. Hoped some of it would seep underneath. Let that go for a while. Then I used the smallest flathead bit in my ifixit screwdriver kit to pop up one side. Carefully used dental floss for the rest of it. It worked, but it took a while! I wish there was just a hair more clearance around it but what can you do! 😂
I’ve always been told “flames make it faster”, so I guess when it comes to computers, more badges ARE better. Nice upgrade! That CoCo 3 is decked out!

Heh. You sir are awesome for watching my video until the very end.
Super cool upgrade
I think so too! Thanks for watching and commenting. It's greatly appreciated!

Hi … I’m still here 😂
Well hello there! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
3:40 My console5 cap kit came with a smaller footprint 100uf cap for that section. I wondered why. Now it's quite obvious.

Isn't there a version of Xenix for 6809? Or is that just for the Z80 family of Tandy computers?
My understanding is Xenix (Microsoft's version of Unix) works on the TRS-80 Model 16. For Color Computers there is NitrOS-9.
Are you making the badges yourself??
Nope. I got them from Cloud-9. They usually come with the memory upgrades when you purchase them. Here is the website: www.cloud9tech.com/
Wonder what could take advantage of that amount of memory on the CoCo 3

Still not as much ram as my CoCo Pi3 😉
You and your CoCo Pi3... I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! LOL!
@@geekwithsocialskills 🤣 Can you buy the 2MB badge by itself?

Took me forever to figure out how to safely remove the badge 😂

Using a hair dryer works too. You put in a ton of work and time to get your badge off. That's dedication for sure! Nicely done!
