Great video. I hadn't seen that Demo before. If anyone had seen that in 1980 they wouldn't have believed it was possible. It's interesting how software technology has advanced even with the same hardware.
Thanks! Agreed about this demo being so amazing. I love that it uses stock PET hardware. The only requirement is having 32KB of memory and a piezo speaker for the CB2 sound. It was originally written with the 4032 in mind, however since my 2001-N has 32KB memory and I'm using the sweet PET Tricks Module, people like me with only a PET 2001-N can enjoy it too!
@@geekwithsocialskills Yes, this would be about 1980 or 81 I saw it. And I was very much going to the arcades to play space invaders at the time. To me, at the time, the PET version was just as good. And free if I stayed late at school to play!
A perfect reason to stay after school, to play Space Invaders for free on the PET computer! BITD a friend of mines family owned an arcade, so I was lucky enough to get some free play action on various arcade machines.
There is indeed a lot of code involved. The developer includes the source code in the download, so you can check it out if you want. I have the link in my description to download it.
Thanks! I've spent a lot of time over the past couple of years cleaning up and restoring my PET 2001 computer. If you haven't already, please check out my other PET videos.
That's mind-blowing! The graphics part of the demo is impressive in it's own right, but the voice synthesis at the end? -Chef's Kiss!- Never would have believed a stock Pet (SD card adapter notwithstanding) would have been capable of this.
Indeed! Only the PET makes it possible LOL! All of this awesome on a stock PET computer. Even though I used my SD card adapter (PET2SD) you can load the program from a real disk drive or even a cassette drive. I own both, but honestly using the PET2SD solution is a lot nicer these days.
Whoooaaah this is simply mind blowing,if commodore did knew about this, they probably wouldn’t have bother upgrading a graphics & sound chip in their later systems, just incredible this demo😁🙏
This demo is amazing! Shiru8bit did a great job with the graphics and sound for sure! It was originally made for the PET 4032 since that has 32KB of memory and a piezo speaker, however since I upgraded my PET 2001-N to 32KB memory and use the Stupid PET Tricks module that allows me to connect an external speaker, I can enjoy the CB2 sound and run this demo.
Thank you for the kind words! As fo not coming up in your feed, I see you are subscribed to my channel, so make sure you have clicked the bell on my channel page to receive the notifications.
PET computers are pretty nice for sure and agreed, the prices have really gone up. Best of luck in finding one. They do show up once in a while. Just check your local area, especially estate sales and garage sales.
It amazes me that this demo runs on a stock PET computer. The only requirement is 32KB of RAM and BASIC 4.0 which all PET's can be upgraded to. Of course with the PET 2001 models you need to either do the CB2 sound modification since there isn't a piezo speaker (those came later in the 40xx series and above) or use the Stupid PET Tricks module like I did that has the CB2 sound with external speaker option and upgrade the RAM.
Cool demo! Never knew that heap of junk had the potential; Hat's off to the dev! If you really want to understand all the potentials of older systems it's far less complex back in those days :)
I've been using these heaps of junk since the 1970s before we called then retro computers. Back in the day we just called them computers. P.S. SCIENCE! LOL!

I remember being blown away by seeing Space Invaders on the PET. Wow! Arcade games, and no need to put coins in!
The Space Invaders port on the PET is really good and period correct too!

My god, to think of the coding involved... amazing effort.

Awesome Pet and very cool demo! Loved it!

That is seriously impressive
Indeed, it's one of the best Commodore PET computer demos I've seen for sure!
Interesting demo. You gotta get petscii robots running on it next.
Thanks! I do have PETSCII Robots, so for sure I'll do a video showcasing it on my PET computer.
All the gusto of a C64 demo on a monochrome PET. I love it!
That's a great comparison! I do love C64 demos, but this PET demo kicks butt!
This was pretty fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
Agreed. It's amazing! Thanks for watching!
I would put that demo on loop all day long.
Still smiling about it.
Not a bad idea. It's so amazing what people are able to pull off on a 40+ year old computer using basically stock hardware.
Whoooaaah this is simply mind blowing,if commodore did knew about this, they probably wouldn’t have bother upgrading a graphics & sound chip in their later systems, just incredible this demo😁🙏
Agreed. It's amazing what people are pulling off with computers and consoles from the 1970s. This is one of my favorite demos.
Awesome demo. I always appreciate what the PET can do for a relatively simple machine.

Awesome video! I’m always amazed at what these machines could do beyond what we thought was possible back in their heyday. Makes me want a PET!
I bet Jack Tramiel founder of Commodore Business Machines (CBM) and Chuck Peddle never imagined the PET computer having a program like this run on it.
P.S. you need to get a PET computer for sure! It would look great in your room of Tandy for sure!
Very nice video! It didn’t come up in my feed? I found it from Mr Lurch’s retweet.
Thank you for the kind words! As fo not coming up in your feed, I see you are subscribed to my channel, so make sure you have clicked the bell on my channel page to receive the notifications.
I want a PET so bad. They're just so expensive now. I have to get lucky at an e-waste or something. This video makes me want one that much more.

Thanks for sharing this! All new to me. :)
You're very welcome Dave! I'm happy to share something new with you, especially on the Commodore computer front.
Nice demo!
Only the Commodore PET makes it possible!
That's simply incredible! The music has a 8088MPH vibe to it.
I know right!?! Such an amazing demo. Agreed about the music having an 8088MPH vibe.
Cool! I've never seen/heard a PET do that! I still maintain that the trapezoid shape of the monitor looks like Darth Vader LOL

Heap of junk?!?! C'mon man! LOL! The Commodore PET is awesome!
@@geekwithsocialskills LOL sorry mate! Deep down I do love our retro computers to understand some real computer science and electronics ;)
I've been using these heaps of junk since the 1970s before we called then retro computers. Back in the day we just called them computers. P.S. SCIENCE! LOL!
@@geekwithsocialskills I have mixed thoughts with stating you have no logic and reason; Subbed kind sir ;)
Thank you for the sub and comments. Much appreciated!
nifty! gimme a pet!
Merci buckets.
