These are great little machines. I have two myself, both upgraded to SCSI2SD and latest ROMs. One is an HD-40 and one is an HD-20. Both running BBS’s. Also, have one clone Thunderdrive with SCSI2SD.
CMD made some really great hardware for sure. Nice that you have a couple CMD hard drives and also the Thunderdrive. I'd like to chat with you offline about your drives and BBS. My contact details are on my channel about page if you would be so kind to reach out.
Agreed. I use to be a fan of the SCSI2SD boards, but they are expensive. Now with have ZuluSCSI and of course BlueSCSI that are great for Macintosh, Amiga and Commodore computers.
What a great drive, and I love the modern-day drive replacement. The sticker is awesome, too. I used that company for my PET lables. Great job! I am looking forward to your next video and eventually dialing in to your BBS with my PET or maybe my Apple IIe. Hopefully, you will also do dial-up:). Thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked my video. My PET 2001-N has all original decals, however I have ordered replacement PET decals from COREi64 in the past and they are very high quality. The shipping is expensive though since I'm in the USA and they are based in Canada, but still worth it. As for having an actual dial-up number for my BBS in present day, that would be cool, however I'll need to sort the Telnet connection stuff first since the majority of the users in 2023 and beyond would dial in that way. I will of course have a PET and Apple IIe section on my BBS. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.
I love the hard drive and modifications. The new sticker and the modern hard drive are a great way to make it even better! I, too, use the same company for labels on my PETs. Looking forward to dialing in to your BBS and your next video. Thanks again for sharing
This is awesome. Looking forward to the BBS! I know what you mean about relearning the BBS config. I think a video tour of the BBS would be awesome once you get it up and running!
So cool! I've never seen a Commodore connected to a hard disk before. Looking forwards to the follow up video and hopeful you can bring the BBS back to life! I lost all my BBS backup disks decades ago :(
Not too many people knew about CMD back in the day because by the time the company was making cool Commodore 64 stuff like the hard drives and RAMlinks, people had moved on from the C64 and into the Amiga or other computers. A day late and dollar short as the saying goes LOL. As for getting my BBS back online, it's going to take some time since I need to re-learn how it all works again, then make any updates so it can support Telnet connections.
@@geekwithsocialskills Yeah, I noticed their entry was late in the game but they hung all the way until 2000 or so? That just speaks to the love that exists for the Commodore 64!
Those "removing this sticker voids your warranty" stickers were and are totally unenforceable in a court (assuming you are willing to go to court) in the US. There were regulations passed by the relevant authority (I think it was a regulatory agency rule rather than a congressional law) in the US to end this particular abuse. There were earlier abuses where an OEM would require you to use their consumables (like Ford requiring Ford branded motor oil) in order to enforce the warranty. These were outlawed as well. These are just a "get out of warranty free" card. If you have to send your device in, how do you prove you didn't remove the sticker? Even a picture wouldn't help because you can't prove the date the picture was taken or that the sticker is "properly" affixed anyway. If you do open it and cause damage and they can prove it (the burden of proof is on them), they can void the warranty. But they cannot void the warranty by saying you removed a sticker. Funny, but I never got notification in my subscriber feed that you ever released this video.
Keep in mind that CMD did this back in 1990 to around 2001, so back then the laws and what businesses did or didn't do in regards to warranty voiding has changed a lot. As for not getting notified that I had posted this video, try reclicking the notification bell and make sure it's selected for all notifications.
@@geekwithsocialskills These rules predate the 1990s. The auto companies would do this with oil and transmission fluid and the printer companies would do it with the consumables there. Of course, these rules never stopped them from doing it. Most people won't sue and so the companies don't end up with court orders requiring them to remove the language. To me, it's an interesting look into the way the tech industry operated and to some extent, still do. I just thought you would want to know youtube is messing with the channel. I don't watch youtube on a phone, so the notifications has no effect. I go to the youtube home page and change the view to subscriptions.
Cool! Good luck with the BBS project, interested to see more of that.
Thanks! Much apreciated!

I've got a couple CMD floppy drives for C64. The seem like really well made products.
Which ones do you have? FD-2000 and/or FD-4000? Indeed CMD made some quality hardware for sure!
Very cool that you are able to keep using that enclosure with the modern solution inside!

Thanks Rudy! Agreed, COREi64 does an amazing job on all their Commodore related labels.

Thank you! I'm also looking forward to having my BBS back up again LOL. Once I figure it all out again I'll consider a video tour of the BBS backend.

Yep, 1990 until 2001. Another cool piece of gear CMD made was the SuperCPU which makes a Commodore 64 run at 20 MHz LOL.
@@geekwithsocialskills LOL!!!!
you lost me at "keeping the old battery in it" :P
At least it's not a Varta battery LOL!
Unfortunately, you didn't show it in action.
What specifically would you like to see in a follow up video?
wouldn't mind a clone of that
There are clones of the CMD hard drive called Rear Admiral Thunderdrive. They show up on eBay once in a while.
@@geekwithsocialskills From what I heard all out of production
There is currently a redesign happening and will be available to purchase some time in 2024.
