Hi will, I’ve had my 06 987.1cayman for 3 months and absolutely love it but …………… took it to maundrells because of a noise from the engine area ………they did a full vehicle health check and found that all coils were badly cracked ( deffo over three months ago it would have happened !!) and there is a noise from the water pump which needs further investigation and a leak from the a/c pipes at the rear of the car !!!!!!!! Maundrells said they would have never sold the car in that state !!! Going to ring the specialist that sold me the car to see what they say if it’s a tough sh#t from them I have a warranty to fall back on !! So just a quick heads up for any future buyers Get a really good inspection done before parting with your hard earned dosh. Love your vids by the way mate
thanks for watching mate Maundrells arent too far from me i look at their cars all the time on auto trader. Thats a shame you have had issues but good you have a warranty to cover you. I wish i had a buyers inspection and will 100% be getting one on a car i buy in the future. I'd be interested in your experience on what the seller says.
To be honest if the warranty doesn’t cover it then research the consumer rights act. If a respected specialist says it was a fault which was older than 3 months and they would not have retailed the car then you may have a right to help from the seller even if they don’t think so. You weren’t expecting a brand new old car but you could maybe expect more than you got here. Perhaps you wouldn’t expect the entire cost covered but some contribution (fingers crossed the warranty covers it anyway).
@@will_behind_the_wheel update !! Dealer has said coil packs were ok when they sold me the car !!! ( of course they were ) but that is a fair wear and tear issue which I suppose is true 😞. But he gets on really well with the warranty company and will get the water pump replaced as a preventative measure 😃😃. May as well get sparkers done at the same time I’ll worry about the a/c pipes another day !!!
@@will_behind_the_wheel maundrells said it would be ok to use the car the coils should be ok til changed ( penned in with selling dealer in a month ) and just keep an eye on temp gauge!! It won’t go BANG it’ll be a gradual loss 😱😱
I really enjoy these videos! It gives me like a vintage type of vibe but it's modern so wild plus IT gives me insight for services I got to do for my 987.1
Think we saw your Booster when I was with my 7yo going back to my 987 Cayman S. You're going to be delighted when you do your service and your fuel economy goes up. 20mpg is what I was getting before I did my service. Oil and air filter make a difference. Sounds like we're both wrenching on our cars. Enjoy!
Wow, that's very interesting you broke it down as monthly costs. So from an American perspective costs so far for 2024 on my 2006 CS : Oil changes are about 85 bucks for the kit every 6 months, i do the work, Tires new set of Michelin Pilot 4 S $1350, Registration- $326, smog check is every other year, i think that's 80 bucks. Insurance pretty cheap i think its maybe $800. i bought front and back brake kits i'll be changing soon, $425 each. It's not cheap like my Camry but its hella fun to drive! Thank you for the very cool and informative video!
Great vid as always, Will. I found it very interesting comparing costs in the UK compared to Australia. Due to luxury car import tax, my 06 Boxster S will set you back about $55,000 AU down under (a shade over 20k English pounds). Agreed value insurance around $100AU per month. The rest is very comparable. I don't use mine as a daily drive so I would expect my Michelin PS4's ($2000AU a set) to last me three years or so. I haven't had to tackle the brakes yet. I would estimate since purchase, including two services and a replacement temp sensor (so far, its only fault) that my baby is setting me back about $300AU a month. Small price to pay imho🙂
Hi Will Behind The Camera, I love your content! I'm interested in discussing a potential collaboration. Could you let me know the best way to reach you? Thanks!😊
Amazing! You are so comfortable on camera!
Thanks for watching mate. Looking forward to seeing you cayman roadtrip 😁 Would be cool to do a cayman vs boxster vid sometime

@@jeffchandler7662 Thats quite good of them with the water pump. Hopefully you get the car on the roads soon and I'll see you at some events 😀

Wow look at that, upping the production quality :D well done video, good approach to budgeting.
Thanks for watching. Just bought a new camera and will be hopefully putting it to more use soon.

Thanks for watching :) hopefully more vids to come with a similar vibe
You have to factor in other maintenance and parts that will break, that’s at least another £1000-£1500 p/a, there are 20yr old cars after all.

Thats awsome I'm sure I'll see you around. I should have the time to do the service over the bank holiday 😁

Thanks for watching. Good to hear your doing the work yourself. These cars are fun to work on, once you've got through the rust 😂
@@will_behind_the_wheel fortunately, that is not an issue in So Cal , sun fade on our silver cars can be damaging though.

Interesting to hear the cost of these over there. They are still great value for money
An excellent video.
Thank you glad you enjoyed it :)
Those service prices don't include VAT. I would say keep to the manufacturer service schedule but with an annual oil & filter change.
It sounds a lot but compare that to the M140i or M2 you mentioned and I reckon they will be more expensive
3.2? What year is your car? Must be same engine as my 2004 986.
2005 987.1. They have similar engines but I think there are some changes between 986 and 987
